Ever since the Odachi I have been waiting for a paddle like the Surge. So stoked that Werner finally brought this to existence, and I am super stoked on how it feels!
Awesome video! So informative! No one is doing paddle reviews like this!! Please breakdown the double diamond/ play paddles! I’m wondering what degree you prefer? I’m using a player, 0 offset, straight shaft now. Looking into a double diamond bent shaft, not sure what degree of offset should be.
I tried an Odachi last fall after one of my slalom runs at U.S. Nationals and was grooving to Werner finally designing modern slalom-like blades for creek boating (I currently use a Galasport Naja Midi, about to get a Manic). Methinks I'll need to give the Surge and the Strike a go when I get the chance, and actually try them on a proper creek.
i will keep to my shogun for now i think its a shame here in norway you can only buy werner and at paddles best i have used is the robson chilli but thats a rodeo paddle and i paddle a axiom so i prefer slalom or rodeo paddles
So quick question that wasn’t addressed. Werner made some claims that the odachi wasn’t a really good paddle to roll with and was mainly for racing. Being that the Surge is a lot like the odachi with the forward bent blade. Does it, the surge, allow a roll like a normal paddle or is it more difficult to roll with. I still end up upside down from time to time and am on the fence with this paddle for that reason. I still need to be able to roll when needed. Thoughts???
It’s not that it is necessarily a much harder paddle to roll with. It’s just with the forward bend blades it sometimes doesn’t slice up to the surface quite as easy. I haven’t noticed an issue the few rolls I have had, at least not to the point I’d be nervous having it.
I use 200cm 30degree paddles, on all designs. I find switching between degrees and lengths doesn’t make sense. I like that 200cm is long enough for power but doesn’t feel like too much paddle to handle. And 30degrees is a nice all around offset.
wait. aren't you sponsored by werner paddles?!!!!!!!! sponsored "reviews" are a complete no-go! not cool. (also paid promotions need to be disclaimed on youtube) paddle looks dope though. definitely gonna test.
@@danejacksonkayak I would appreciate if you disclosed whether or not you got it for free though. Of course if you get it for free you're incentivized to give a less critical review so that you can get free blades in the future from them (I'm not saying that's what happened here but it's just always good to disclose that so we know the perspective of the reviewer). Looks like a rad paddle though, perfect to use most season so I dont have to break my odiachi training on the green and can just break it out for race day
Pr3Historic yes I did get the paddle for free, but I am not being paid by them to put out a positive review. Just wanted to give my 2¢ on this new blade and how I felt about it.
