I feel like it's an attempt to pull knife guys in. I could be wrong, who can guess what the guys that put this together were thinking. I've seen mixed reviews on it, only a couple of negative ones were based on practical use.
I'd probably go for the lesser model of the two. Although the premium model is excellent, I would pick the one where I could reposition the pocket clip. I'm glad you received yours.
I did a review of the Harbor Freight Icon knife two weeks ago, then purchased the Begg Mini Glimpse. The Harbor Freight Icon knife is much improved from the Begg Mini Glimpse. If you would like to check out the Mini Glimpse I'd be happy to mail it to you. Thanks for the review! 😎👍
I don't do the borrow thing, I'm not at all reliable about sending stuff back. I mean well enough but never get around to it. If you have a direct comparison video drop a link here for me, I'm definitely interested.

If Beggs aint got a problem with it then no one needs to be complaining. Its either beggs knives sold the rights or the OEM that had the files just sold them to HF. Anyone thats pissed off that doesnt have skin in the game needs to settle down. Todd isnt loosing any money on it and beggs knives is either gonna sue the fire out of HF or they got paid for the lic. I wont buy one either way because china budget knives dont bring me any pride of ownership and i climbed off that horse a long time ago. For me to buy a china knife it has to be under 50 bucks and be something that the design really speaks to me and i never liked the mini glimpse anyhow.
Yeah, if it was a legit arrangement everyone needs to chill. If I felt like it was a full on clone I wouldn't want it. I still like my budget knives as long as they have something that catches my eye, cool shape, good colors, just something. On that end you sound like you're quite a bit farther into the hobby side than I am. I'm sure I'll reach that point too.
If you aren't worried about the associated controversy it's a fantastic knife. It'll be a struggle to find one, stores are apparently getting 4-6 at a time and being mostly bought by employees.
I like it Got it one day, put it in my rotation and i will say, that is a nice knife for yhat price point While there are other options out there, on the same price point, hf knife feels of higher quality... I think that in itself is a reason yo give it a try, you have to be a knoge guy of course Great addition to ones collection and i just can't see anyone going wrong with thos one... I've seen lots pf videos on this knife, i really like your take on it better, is objectively wholesome 🙏🏾
As a knife guy, I wouldn't the material used in the Icon knife is premium. It might have been premium material 10 or 15 years ago. With new steel like SV35VN and Magacut, D2 has fallen into the budget range.
FEELS premium is different from BEING premium but I agree with you. Being premium at this point goes past S30 series steels. D2 is BUDGET budget. Molecularly it's not far from 8cr.
I don't care about any of the drama. It seems like a good budget knife. If I am ever in a HF and the shelves have not been ravaged, I will pick one up. So far they are always out of stock.
It would have been better if HB would have hired a designer and came out with a more original design, nice design, nice knife, but even for the price a lot more interesting designs out there, as a recent subscriber, I am enjoying your videos, thanks for the work.
You're absolutely right, man. A fully original design from a well known designer would have been much better for everyone involved. Thank you for the kind words.
I disagree, I think they got what they were looking for. Bought the rights. Maybe an nda or residuals. Now they let the free advertising begin on a decent knife. So far sold out as soon as they hit the shelves. Seems like they have an ace team working
It’s Harbor Freight. It’s always a knockoff - sometimes decent, sometimes bad. You can buy a knockoff Buck 119 Special at HF, their Icon tools are styled like Snap-on. Be aware of what you are buying when you walk in that door.
It's funny though cause quinn ratchets, sockets and ratcheting wrenches are made by apex in the gearwrench factory. Icon digital torque wrench is a cornwell Icon impacts are made by blue point (snap on) Icon flex ratcheting wrenches are the exact same as what matco sells under their brand name. So is it really junk? They source alot from bigger companies. Cornwell, apex, stanely, southwire, mayhew, etc. I think people just jumped in a band wagon of oh HF is junk blah blah without realizing who they source through and how much they have changed over the years. They are getting more and more usa made stuff in. Sure the knipex snap on copy is meh but it's also genius. Think about it, everyone is talking about it and it's free advertising for them. Also we tested in the metalergist lab. Icon pliers are not far off from snap on in Rockwell testing. The knipex pliers that ivon just came out with were just tested. Ivon hardness 56 knipex 60. Not to bad if you ask me given QC of +/- 1 to 2 in hardness.
Confirmed with Begg that the design was indeed totally ripped off so it went to a friend. Made well enough, works well enough, but I don't want to support cloning/design theft.
