For people who have never heard of “thick water”, it’s used in healthcare settings. Some people with neurological conditions (e.g after a stroke) can’t safely drink thin fluids as it can go down the windpipe and cause pneumonia.

When I tried it it gave the water a very very faint woody sort of taste, like there was a really tiny pinch of sawdust in there, so faint it barely registers and after a few sips I couldn't even notice anymore.

Water thickened with xanthan gum, I saw another comment say. And some other things. It's used, as I seen another comment say, by people who have trouble drinking thinner fluids, because of their gag reflex or general troubles swallowing it properly.

So “thick water” is actually called thicken water. It’s for patients (well people lol) have a difficulty time swallowing “normal” consistency water or other beverages due to some type of disease process such as a stroke or dementia (sometimes they forget how to actually drink) it comes in a powder form where you can thicken the liquid to the proper consistency for the patient. There is 3 consistency nectar thick being the least in thickness, honey thick which is a bit thicker and pudding thick which is the thickest. The company has thickened juices as well. All my patients I have ever had absolutely hate it lol and a lot of them sneak “regular” water or juice. Hope this helps

The thicker consistency makes it less likely that individuals will aspirate while they are drinking. Individuals with difficulty swallowing may find that liquids cause coughing, spluttering, or even aspiration and that thickening drinks enables them to swallow safely.

i’m here to tell people real quick PLS DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR THE TREND GOING AROUND. this product is an expensive medical drink for people who can’t drink normal water due to a condition. They can literally die from not getting this. in addition, this product also has very low stock due to not many people needing it, so if you buy it, then someone who actually needs it might not be able to get it due to the low stock. i’m not trying to be rude, i’m just trying to spread awareness on the matter. My cat always wants to drink my water and once she was interested in my sparkling water. I was like "you're not going to like this" but since she didn't stop bothering me for it I gave her some. Her face literally scrunched and she stopped to stare at me with her tongue out as if trying process what she tasted. I've never seen her with so animated expressions.

Mostly found in nursing homes for the elderly. But it’s for people who can’t drink normal liquids. (They choke.) They have thickened water and all kinds of juices. Thickened milk is by far the most disgusting though. 🤢🤢

thickened water is mostly given to patients with dysphagia. Since the water is a bit thicker, it takes a bit longer to swallow than regular water. By slowing down the swallow rate, the patient has better control of the liquid thus reducing the risk of water going down their trachea. So for people without a swallowing impairment , it is uncomfortable having to put in more work to swallow water but it’s an aid for someone with dysphagia.

When I was a kid I tried to give the dog sparkling water as a treat because I only drank sparkling water and thought normal water tastes bland. I expected the dog to like it a lot more than the bland boring water, but he always recoiled from the bowl because the fizzy stuff would tickle his nose!

their preference makes sense when you consider that dogs drink water by scooping it with their tongue and catching the airborne water in their mouth. thicker water means more water airborne means they can drink more faster

I understand you completely. I lost my two Beagle girls in quick succession from cancer in December last year. My heart goes out to you and anyone who is forced to endure that loss of a furry family member. I'm sad to say I don't think you can ever get over it, but time will hopefully let you remember more of the good memories over the bad ones. I wish you all the best.

fun fact, due to waters intermolecular hydrogen bonding and cohesion it’s actually a lot more viscous (thick) than a liquid of its type should be, in other words water isn’t very watery, similarly these hydrogen bonds give water a high surface tension resulting in droplets that ‘aren’t wet’, and now i feel like i’ve missed used the word ‘fun’

It is weird to me that everyone in the comments seems to dislike sparkling water because I am from germany and here most people seem to prefer the sparkling water over the normal water (me included). I know I didn't quite like sparkling water as much when I was a child but whatever place I went to I was only offered sparkling water so I had to get used to it but now I am so used to drinking sparkling water, I can't drink the normal water anymore. It just tastes like something is missing to me.
