My IKEA STANDING DESK for making YouTube videos: Trotten for the win!

This video is an unboxing and assembly of the IKEA TROTTEN adjustable standing desk, PLUS 2 years on review! I bought this sit/stand desk from IKEA exactly 2 years ago and I share all the pros and cons from using it daily. I can easily adjust the height of the desk between 70 and 120 cm by just cranking the handle to get the best position for both sitting and standing... I went for a beige desktop which apparently is kind to your eyes since it makes the contrasts between the screen and tabletop softer... and it's comfortable for left- and right-handers, as the crank handle can be mounted on the left or right side. And it has adjustable feet make the desk stand steady also on uneven floors. I tried fitting casters, which sort of works but it does raise the desk height to a little too high even for me.

Friends of mine who have the electric kind have said they all experience overheating at times, and two have had the overheating cause damage to their plug-in devices so I probably wouldn’t ever risk it! Thanks so much for this video and it was very funny listening out for your ‘Trotten’ dub-overs 😂 I probably will get myself one of these desks because it’s the best of both worlds and the crank wouldn’t bother me at all!

So much to say about this...I also have a standing desk (it's what you see in my videos) but because I'm a geek, I was an idiot and bought an electric one...and then went to Canada for two years where I couldn't use it cause it was the wrong voltage!! I also put M8 castors on my desk (winner!) and we also have a couple of animal skins, but does yours shed everywhere or is that just me?! I'm seriously considering binning one even though it's beautiful.

Haha, oh no! The animal skins came with the Hut because it's from Finland and comes with them plus some antlers for the front door. The antlers felt really wrong so sold that on Ebay. I feel like someone's going to comment on them but they're a Finnish thing. They shed everywhere - huge piles of hairs. They sometimes get on the desk when I'm filming and look like I have abysmal personal hygiene. I kept thinking they'll stop moulting one day, but the piles of animal hair keep on coming. With the Dyson, I get a static charge hoovering them up which isn't good...

Hi. Does the table wobble when you are using it, even if the feet are level, specially when you’ve adjusted it to standing mode?

Hi, thanks for the kind question - mine doesn't wobble, - even at standing height - and I have a very uneven floor. I have pads on the feet, maybe those help. Hope this helps and thanks again!

Is it possible to put the crank handle on the left side instead of right side?

yes, the components you put through the hole that is used to lift it can be inverted so you can rotate the desk and have it on the left side

Thank you for sharing. I'd like to get one of these for my son. I wonder if this would be too tall for him. How high is the desk from its lowest position? With the wheels on.

Hi Gabriellah Thanks for the kind comment and question, how old is your son? I got one of those child desks for my son and daughter and they have really outgrown them but still using them at 12 and 14... wish I'd future proofed them with this if I could have afforded it, or if they had the space for the table top! If it's a child, I would definitely not put wheels on - with the standard feet it is normal table height: so 70cm at lowest. Hope this helps!

I've genuinely been looking at this desk for a while now but now electric ones are seriously cheap in comparison. My issue with them all is they are just way to small. I use a kitchen worktop on top of 2 ikea units at the moment as I use 2 32" Monitors so I need a slightly larger desk.
