I’m a 34 year old 7 year lpn. Just now looking for bridge programs to become an RN. Will have to go right back for my BSN. Then planning to study for my mcat and apply to medschool at about 36 yo?? Idk how old I am, I’m doing this! Finally made up my mind to follow Gods plan and I’m ready for the journey🙏🏾
So happy you shared your story! Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and a fantastic plan! Keep pushing forward, you got this! Best of luck to you!
Hey Camille..Am really inspired by you... Am 19 doing nursing am in my last year .... But l also look forward becoming a doctor to..... I really want to interact with you... But l don't know how l can further do.... If God wishes l will be grateful to hear from you
Awesome! I feel like we have had similar experiences. I graduated with my RN when I was 19, and started working when Covid hit in 2020. I’m currently working on my BSN degree, and then I have to take some other chemistry classes and such to take the MCAT. I look forward to hearing more about your journey!
I am 25 and I was neglected growing and I did not graduate from elementary school! During covid at the age of 20 I did everything I could to learn and become smart because I saw it as a privilege it took me one year about with intense studying to get my GED and then I enrolled to community college I was placed into a year of remedial classes and after that with little confidence I started my nursing prerequisites I took A/P 1 and 2, micro bio, stats, and gen bio and all other classes for my sciences AA. Skip to today I am taking my last semesters at my community college for that science AA and I will need to transfer after this spring 2024 I have a 3.9 GPA and I made dean's list and honor's at my community college. After everything I am been through my confidence has growth and I am thinking I want to switch from nursing to premed but I only have the prerequisites for nursing . Since I am applying to university as a transfer student I will be applying to a specific programs ( for example the university's nursing school) I can not apply to premed degrees because I do not have the prerequisites for any other schools but nursing and I am out of Pell grant to stay at my community college and get the premed degree prerequisites. Yeah I don't know I just feel so stuck and that I wish I some how had the confidence when I got my GED to do what my heart wanted all long. And for anyone wondering, CPS in FL is really bad.
Hello! Thank you for sharing your journey with us, you have come a long way and I am super happy and proud of all you have accomplished! My recommendation is to talk with some advisors to see what your options are if you are passionate about going to medical school. Likewise, take some time to reflect on your why and what is prompting the want to pursue medicine. These will help you realign your goals and put into perspective what you want to obtain out of your journey. I was in a similar situation and went the nursing route first, personally, nursing allowed me the financial stability and emotional understanding that further pushed me to pursue medical school afterward. Unfortunately, I do not have a solid answer on what you should do, however, whatever you decide I know you will do great and excel! Thank you again for sharing your journey with us and keep pushing forward one step at a time!
Go to nursing school, it will give you the financial and practical benefits, then once done you can either do Nurse practitioner or CRNA which is a great area to go into, or after nursing school you can go into medical school. Trust me nursing gives you tooo many options, and will support you towards medical school. Don't worry or think about your age, anything is possible.
I started working as a CNA in 2021 and am in school now for an associate’s degree in nursing. I’m 34 and I chose nursing because I also thought it would satiate my interest in medicine while allowing me the opportunity to start earning enough to support myself, having largely relied on support from family for so long. I still work as a CNA. My job and my school are leading me to believe that nursing will *not* satiate that curiosity and that I will probably end up applying to medical school at some point.
Please do share more. I am on this journey right now where I am starting from right now and planning on becoming a doctor. I am really glad I saw your video here
Graduating nursing school in 2 weeks always wanted to be a doctor but my mom wanted me to have a stable career sooner. I still want to go to medical school !
Hello! Congrats on your achievement! If you still really want to pursue medicine, go for it! It’s never too late to pursue medical school! Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
You're wildin'. I won't be an RN until I'm 32. At 40 I plan on applying to Medical School. You don't want to regret not becoming an MD. You're never too old to chase your dreams. You don't want to be 80 regretting that you're not an MD. There are way more 80 year old doctors than nurses. MD is the route if you really want it.
I agree I became an RN at 24 it’s the loans that are stopping me I feel as if I have way to many loans I’d be way to stressed to think about them during med school
The average age of all first year medical students is 24-25 depending on the year. I'm a first year and just turned 27. Half of my medical school class (about 75 students) is over the age of 25. More than 15 are over the age of 30.
Hello! Thank you for the kinds words! Working while in medical school is tough, however if I have any breaks it is doable. I plan on picking up a couple shifts over my summer break, hope this helps!
Enjoyed the video man! We have very similar stories. I went to LPN school right out of high school in 2020. I work as an ER LPN, and I’m also in an LPN-RN program. I hope to attend medical school in the near future. I’d love to see a video about what bachelors degree you achieved, and even what you did to make your med school application stand out. Thanks!
I would love to share that with you! I will be posting new videos soon and will include more videos on my journey as well as my application cycle to medical school! Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
Камиль, вы молодец! Усидчивый, целестремленный, трудолюбивый парень. Удачи вам, не останавливайтесь. I am 46, and I am in the RN program right now. This is my 3rd major, but I don't think I can go further for a doctor's degree. As you see, i am too old 😊. I am also an immigrant.
Hi Kamil! Congrats on starting med school. I would love to have more details about your journey. Were you working as a nurse while doing the post bacc and studying for mcat too?
I would love to hear more about the actual process of applying to medical school. Did your experience as a nurse and going through nursing school help you feel prepared for med school? If so, in what aspects?
Question: when you did your post bacc program. Was that the main deciding factor for you getting accepted into medical school? I’m assuming the nursing portion didn’t matter much. Also how long was your post bacc program?
Hello! Great question. I completed my post bac after I finished my BSN, I did a post bac mainly since it was the cheapest way for me to complete the pre requisite classes I needed prior to applying to medical school. Therefore, was it the main reason I got accepted, I would say no since I took a post bac to complete the classes I needed not to necessarily boost my application. The program was 1 year long or two semesters. Hope this answered your questions!
The program was a post baccalaureate certificate program in biomedical sciences! I was able to take all the medical school requirement classes I needed to apply, hope this helps!
If u complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing, would that be equivalent to completing the pre med and I can apply for med school? Or do I have to do the 4 year premed again?
Hello, I’m starting pre recs for ASN, the BSN program is online, do you think I should get my ASN then transfer to a different school to get in person BSN program? I want to be a doctor but I don’t want any hindrance in my application if I do online BSN
@@AdiyaSadykova06 Hello! I did my BSN online, I don’t think it affected my application especially since I did all my other pre requisite classes in person. Hope this helps!
Hello, post bac is a structured program that allows students to take the rest of their medical school requirements after they already finish a bachelors degree, hope this helps!
Hello! I got my BSN from Lewis University, it was an online program. They have two options one is a 2 year program and the other is a 1 year program, however it’s been a while so things may have changed. Hope this helps!
Hi! I did a post bac in medical sciences, what this basically did was give me all the classes I need to apply to med school that I didn’t have from my BSN. Classes such as orgo, biochem, and upper level bio classes (immunology, molecular cell biology, etc.). Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions!
@federer Great question! I will make a new video soon going over this topic! I find it will be easier to share this information via video rather than text, thank you for watching!
Hello! I had to take the rest of my med school required classes which included orgo 1/2, biochem 1/2, physics 1/2, calculus, and 2 upper level classes so I took genetics and molecular cell bio. My post bac program was flexible regarding which courses I needed to take which was a huge benefit. Hope this helps!
@@Pavithramohann Hello! Depends on how many pre-requisite courses you have completed during nursing school, there is no direct path from nursing to medical school so it’ll depend on your situation. Hope this helps!
Hello! Great question, my post bac was 1 year long. I would choose a program that gets you as many pre-requisite classes completed. I know some programs offer MCAT prep and help with applications. My program did not, however they offered me a discount since I completed my BSN at the same school. Every student is different and id recommend looking at programs near you, compare what they offer, and see which one fits your needs best. Hope this helps!
Hello! I took a large amount of the pre reqs I needed for med school by doing a post bac program. This is a program essentially built for students that have completed their bachelors degree but still need to complete the pre reqs for medical school. Also, feel free to check out my video about why I did a post bac, hope this helps!
@@areegeasad Hello! Although you potentially can, I would make sure you do as well as you can in your nursing classes first. Remember you want to shoot for the highest GPA you can achieve. Also, remember to not spread yourself too thin and take care of yourself, nursing school is challenging! Hope this helps!
Hello! I took a few of my pre-reqs at a community college, however I took the rest at a 4-year university and made sure to take a couple 400 level classes at a university as well to show my ability to do well in higher level coursework. Hope this helps!
Hi! Yes it is definitely possible to go from RN to MD! In fact that’s what I did, you just need to take the pre-requisite coursework, take the MCAT, and apply to medical school. It’s a long journey but worth it and definitely possible! I wish you the best luck on your journey!
Very inspiring to hear from you. I am currently RN and preparing for MD. Any advice you would give would be amazing. I am planning to go and do general science degree to boost my GPA and prep MCAT. It is going to be long journey. Do you have your email address?
Hello! So great to hear you’re working toward your future goals of becoming a physician! Some advice, don’t burn yourself out, really embrace the journey since it is a long but very rewarding one, not everyday will be great but shoot for more good days than bad, it will get overwhelming at times and those are times when you really need to know your “why” behind medicine and medical school. Hope this advice helps and best of luck on your journey! If you’d like to email me and further discuss feel free! Theguidewirerntomd@gmail.com hope this helps!
@@theguidewirerntomd please where do I dm you, l just passed the Nclex and I plan to prep for medical school early. I don’t know how to study for MCAT 😩.
Hello! A BSN is a 4 year degree, to become an RT it is a 2 year degree, that being said if you’d want to become an RT you would have to apply to an RT program and go through that 2 year program. Otherwise, I do not know of a direct pathway from BSN to RT. Hope this helps!
Hello! I am able to work PRN in medical school during breaks and as my schedule allows. It is possible however you need to have a job that allows extremely flexible scheduling and make sure you put school first! Hope this helps!
A post bac, is a degree or certificate program after you have completed a formal bachelors degree. It basically allows you to take all the required classes needed for medical school applications without pursuing another bachelors degree. Hope that helps!
@@theguidewirerntomd that's what I'm doing to become a Physician Assistant 😄 I thought nursing was going to be my path but changed at the last minute.
