ItzLayla it’s insane. Same thing happened to my husband when he was in highschool... he didn’t want to go to school and skipped for a week... but he recovered and it’s amazing. Crazy that these things happen. And it’s more often than we know
I have had it. It is horrible I had to take multiple steroids. And it took 6 months to heal with just hope it works. Mine wasnt as bad as the video. And I still suffer effects its prominent if I'm tired. My eyes look different one is more lazy looking
@@TheSurelia It's actually a cold sore, but it happens inside your cranial nerve instead of on your skin. I had it myself, I started to lose taste, then over the next couple days it became harder to smile and control my facial muscles, as if I had exercised them for 2 hours straight.

I had bells palsy for 4 weeks a few years ago, it's not much fun, I first realised when I was at work and tried to whistle a long to a song and realised i couldn't whistle any more
Recovering from BP is a long and hard process, it feels like you’ll never be the same again. It’ll make you feel antisocial and ugly. Anyone struggling with BP now, I want you to know there’s an end. It will get better.
I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy on 12/12/15, That night I found this video and I cried my eyes out ..... I have almost fully recovered. (it is 10/26/16 now)I continued to watch this video over and over (about 1000 of those 130Kviews are mine I swear lol) because it gave me hope that I could recover. thank you for posting this. I really appreciate it, IDK if I could have gotten through this without this video.
I myself got Bell’s palsy at the age of thirteen. It went away in like a month but I know I went through some of the same stuff as you. The symptoms were immediate and my mom actually thought I was having a stroke. All I had to use were the prescribed steroids and it turned out fine and I’m not to healthy of a person. This disease can happen to what feels like anyone so I really appreciate you raising awareness for the cause (even though this was posted years ago ha) thank you!
Exactly. The important thing to take away from this (which is hardly even touched in the video) is that steroids and physical therapy is what will help your "cure". Not a "healthy" (vegetarian = healthy, lol) diet and acupuncture. Please don't give Crystal Ball dealers money. Just listen to your doctor.
I also got it at 13, wow. I was at my parents religious gathering when I noticed my eye twitching on it own and my mouth slanted. The left side of my face was completely paralyzed. I remember not wanting to tell my mom because I didn’t think it was a big deal... thankfully I recovered 98% in about 10 days. Im 23 now and to this day my chin feels off, like the nerves aren’t where they’re supposed to be, but movement wise everything functions totally normally.
I mistook you for coyote Peterson, but this is really positive video. Im glad you recovered and it makes me happy to see your positivity. Great video 💙
I had bell's palsy when I was in high school. It really sucked. Took months to get fully back to normal, my doctor gave me a bunch of pills(steroids and antibiotics) I was miserable but when it went away I was so relieved. It's very rarely permanent, I've never actually heard of anyone permanently having it so if anyone has it don't freak out
It's not permanent, but sometimes, like myself you'll always have a weakness on the side you had bells palsy. 5 years after having it and still get a watery eye on the weak side, when I eat.
@@PositiveRaincloud Left side of my face is really drooping but Its not paralyzed. I can move it freely. Could it still be Bells Palsy? Ive had it for 5 years now (more or less) and Im only 19...
@@tamara1970 Well my blinking is absolutely fine and symmetrical.. the problem is though, when I get very tired I do notice my facial muscles on the side I had bells palsy is a tad weakner/drooped. My friends said they can't see the difference, so I guess it's just me who notices it. I reckon you'll be fine, and good luck to your recovery :)
@@seaneredia5199 I think it would be worth going to the doctors about. Because I got diagnosed with it at 14 years old, and if it is bells palsy you'll need steroid medication (they made me go from underweight to overweight fml lol); and do facial exercises to strengthen the muscles in your face, since you said you're able to move it. Did you literally wake up one day with it? Because that's what happened when I had it, and was rushed into A&E because they thought I was some 14 year old stroke victim.
I’ve had Bell’s palsy twice on both sides of my face and I’m only 15 tbh the physiotherapy was hard and it happened so fast I had it when I was 10 and 11/12 I know how hard the recovery and it’s a lot of hard work and dedication well done 😁
He might have been fine by now.. It happened to me 2 years ago.. I got full recovery in almost 8 weeks.. Doing great now.. Suddenly RU-vid recommended this to me.. Got nostalgic watching this...
Glad your doing better I noticed during your acupuncture and wanted to tell you that you have BEAUTIFUL facial structure. You have a beautifully sculpted face and warm smile Just thought I’d tell you
About ten years (22/23) ago I woke up thinking I had a stroke. Went to the hospital and they said it was bell's palsy. Took me roughly a year to gain back what I have now. I'd say I'm about 90% and won't be any better. Thankfully, at its worse, I could blink and hear fully but taste on my left side and all motion on my left side was absent. Sometimes that side of my face would feel really irritated but wouldn't last too long. Now at 32, any time I have lack of sleep, eating or emotional, my eye tears up. Also my left eye is a bit more shut than the right eye. I don't notice it the mirror but you can plainly tell in pictures. The first couple of days were tough but everyone always said I was in such good spirits for what had happened. I would just reply with, well there's nothing I can do about it so why let it bother me.
Please also watch this important video from a physician in Chicago who specializes in Bell's Palsy. Because Bell's Palsy can become permanent, it pays to self-educate, listen to your intuition, get second or third opinions, and *do everything you can to own your cure.* Don't assume the first doctor you see knows the best ways to treat this condition. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dHBE328YrvU.html
Bless you, your courage, belief in yourself and those around you who were able to help. This is exactly how we should handle life and all that comes with it! Be well and may all your remaining years be filled with love and joy!
Randomly Chosen I had it back in 2002. I didn't know how to deal with at first. I went wash my hair and my eye was on fire. I didn't know my eye didn't close good enough to keep out foam of the shampoo. So went and got baby shampoo because it doesn't burn your eyes. I had to hold the side of my face to eat because the muscles in my didn't move to hold the food to chew. It just gathered up in my cheek. So I got used to doing that every time I would eat. The steriods they give you don't work. I still have bouts of it but now I can handle it better. It doesn't last as long. a day or so. I found out melatonin helps relax the stress of it.
My case of Bell's Palsy was extremely mild compared to yours, but the head/face pain was still crippling to me and I was so touched to find this video, even if it was after Ive recovered. Thank you for sharing your story and I will share in hopes others can benefit from watching it.
Thank you for sharing your story. I woke up Dec.26, 2014 with Bell's Palsy. I was in the middle of nowhere in a little town. I was snowed in so I had to endure the situation. I found your video on my phone via youtube and I have to say, you made me feel so hopeful. I was able to get a strong antibiotic from a family member and began to take B12 vitamins as well as do my facial exercises. I even slept on the effected side of my face, to help keep it warm and stimulate it. I watched this video along with a few others repeatedly to give me the inspiration and confidence to stay strong and enthusiastic. As of now, I'm on my 3rd week to recovery and couldn't feel more blessed. My smile is almost back to its bright shiny self and I couldn't be more relieved. I hope others will see this video and share it so others can find help too. Your a wonderful and amazing person! Once again, thank you and God bless!
I had it on the right side of my face. They put me on oral steroids and anti virals. I never lost sensation , but the right side of my face was totally paralyzed . It took about 3 weeks to get some movement back. By the 4th or 5th week I was about 80% better. It took about 8 weeks for total recovery. For those of you out there going through it right now , I feel your pain. Just try to remember that it is most likely going to heal in a few weeks.
thank you for documenting your recovery process, my fiancé was diagnosed with it not even a week ago. seeing you gain control of your face again made me shed real tears, i can’t wait to see her smile again. and for anyone going through this i’m keeping you in my prayers ♥️
hey my name is Tanisha and I wanted to say thank you for sharing this video. I was just diagnosed with bells palsy this past Tuesday and I can't lie I was depressed. I actually did get this last week friday. went to sleep normal and I woke up the next day knowing that there was something wrong. As a pharmacy technician I went to work and I was even able to speak to a doctor and he said it was just allergies. pshhh. ikr. so because of the labor day weekend and thinking yea its just "allergies" I was able to see my doctor this past Tuesday....n yupp. bells mutha-loving palsy. Doc gave me some prednisone (some steroids) so ill be seeing her in a couple days. like I said I was indeed depressed. Why? I am a very positive and outgoing individual who always has a smile on her face. I never thought in a million years that my joy, my beautiful smile was ever something that could ever have been taking away from me. Man I was so beat up about this. But I looked at my bright side and I thank God because I'm still alive. my hand and my feet still work. I still have food on my table and clothes on my back. I looked on my bright side as you as well, whoever's reading this, and just be grateful for what you have. because in reality this is only temporary. it is scary at first to deal with it but one day at a time. take it easy and just be positive. thank you sir again for this video. you are very brave and encouraging for posting this. God bless you. ha-ha... and get this. I took my drivers test today...and whooo hooo I past. but my pic was a total fail. lmaooo.....life is great.
+tanisha martinez Hi Tanisha, thanks for your beautiful comment! My partner was a pharmacy tech for 7 years also. I'm glad you ignored the first doctor's opinion sought a second opinion and got on steroids right away - from everything I read, starting steroids within 24-48h of onset is the only action demonstrated to show potential likely benefit in protecting or healing the nerve that's being attacked. Best wishes on a full and speedy recovery!
+LivingAnExaminedLife Thank you Grant. and I'm sorry for posting my comment like a million times. lol. I did have trouble posting it last night and when I saw your reply that's when I noticed what I had done. But if you ever want to just talk or even say hi I'm here :-) Thank you again and you have a blessed life.
I bet you've made a full recovery by now. I had this when I was younger and it cleared up in about a month and it's the same for everyone else I encountered with this condition. I really hope you made a full recovery at least.
THANK YOU! My mom just got diagnosed with Bell’s palsy and this was a big inspiration, which took my mom from being depressed and staying in bed to going outdoors and trying new things!
The hardest part was wondering whether I would ever be able to smile again (especially as a gay man where we feel so incredibly judged-and self-judging-on our appearances). In my video I showed a multi-day hiking trek I went on eight days after coming down with Bell's Palsy. I ought to mention that I felt fatigued on that trip. Intense exercise during recovery may not be right for you, so listen to your body and rest more often; but above all, don't hide indoors or stop living your life while you wait to get better!
Hi Grant , This is so wonderful , you really kept a positive outlook and trusted in the Chinese Medicine even though initially there was no improvement . You did the right thing and the results were exactly what you expected . I am doing Acupuncture now , it is very powerful and there are so many ways to approach it. I am so glad you are back , you are blessed . The song Dan wrote is absolutely beautiful too. Thank you for sharing . Rosemary
Rosemary Manziano Thank you, Rosemary! My two acupuncturists were mostly trained in traditional Chinese Five Element technique. One of them also practised four months in China where she treated up to ten Bell's Palsy patients per day at a Western-style hospital. (Apparently in China this disease is more common and the standard approach is to use acupuncture.) I drank a bitter concoction of Chinese herbs up to three times per day for several weeks. A couple times the acupuncturists also used electro-acupuncture to stimulate my facial muscles with a weak current. During the healing process I had to practice patience and have faith that I was doing everything that I could to make the fullest and fastest recovery possible. My insurance didn't cover acupuncture so it was an unexpected cost but I think it was ~$1,100 well-spent.
Thanks - keeping a positive, gay in the literal sense, frame of mind should help. That is what i learn from your video on day 4 of my journey through this sickness.
LivingAnExaminedLife All i want is my smile back and like u said as a gay male, which i am its sooo uncomfortable and i just dont know what to do anymore. its been a year and a month. i have very small movement on the affected side ":(
Terrance Van Dyke Hi Terrance, please see my reply to you other comment. In 10-25% of patients Bell's is partially or even fully permanent. Movement returned to me eventually, but early on I didn't know for sure I would recover. What I tried to demonstrate-by-example in the video is that sometimes life hands us a painful situation we can't fix, and all we can do is *control our reaction* and to try to feel gratitude about what *is* going good. I think there are still other things you can try, like consulting cosmetic surgeons or neurologists about facial exercises, so don't lose hope. But at the same time don't let this condition stop you from living an amazing life and getting out and meeting new people, doing fun stuff, and feeling grateful for the good. I think that meeting a few new neurologists/surgeons could give you new exercises or procedures to try, or at least put your mind at ease that you've done everything possible. Best of luck to you.
seeing the transition from day 4 to day 97 made me smile really big. you’re incredibly strong and i‘m really happy things are okay. while i don’t suffer from this, you’re motivating so many people with other traumatic illnesses to stay positive. stay awesome, man. 👍
Hey Brant, your video really inspires me a lots. I got bell’s on April 4th that 3 days before my 40 years birthday. Very depressed and panic when I noticed my right face totally paralysis. I had steroid and anti-virus at day 1 and today is my 19th day struggling with Bell’s but I got almost 90% recovery. I read all comments under your video. Thank you so much for sharing yours and wish everybody’s good health. Cheers my friend. I am a Chinese living in Canada but pls ignore my errors in the comment.
Man you are so inspiring, this video was so genuine. I came home today to find my mum in tears with her face drooped convinced she had a stroke. Well, it was Bells Palsy thank goodness! She is on day 2 now and i will forward her some of your tips. She is now on the Steroids, twice a day for 5 days and i'll convince her to get some of them B vitamins and facial massages or acupuncture. So glad you have recovered and keep smiling! :-)
+ramio1983 I have been taking all the B's. B1, B2, B6, B9 AND B12- to no avail and heads up---the only thing we know about bells palsy for sure, is it heals itself-if a patient was taking steroids and he had a full 100 percent recovery-that dose not mean "the steroids" cured his bells palsy. Rather, that means that as the ailment was curing itself, his ingestion of steroids made it seem like they were the cure- How can we ever know if anything works if it cures itself???This analogy is applicable for acupuncture also-for me- steroids did absolutely nothing. Any doctor who claims he can help is a thief and a lier...and they know it-deep inside they know it cures itself and they 're thinking, well, either way, my patient will get better so Im in the clear... THIEVES!!!!
Hello I was diagnosed yesterday. It has been very hard to get used too, But hanging in there. Glad you are better and also love your music 😃. Take care
I’ve never heard of this disorder before, and I’m actually quite shocked, I hope you get better soon, and hopefully anyone that experienced this gets well very soon, 🙏🏼
Hey man, really interesting video! I had a (thankfully) very mild case of Bell's Palsy last year. Was downright terrifying because I thought I was having a stroke. It's good to see someone spreading good information. Thank you!
So happy for you that you started to recover! I feel like whether you got the feeling back or not, you would’ve lived your life to the fullest and been an inspiration to many.
My mom got this when I was young. Her's happened overnight so it really freaked us out. She's fully recovered by now, but it was definitely a journey. The most important part was stay positive and to keep working at healing. 😀
woaaah man this is so insane. i found myself cheering in front of my screen just watching you get better the fact that something this horrific can go away is just such an amazing process to witness.
i was just diagnosed with bell’s palsy today & this video just so happened to pop up in my recommendations & it gives me hope that i’ll improve soon! i didn’t even know this existed until it happened to me so i’m glad there’s awareness out there because it’s really such a random thing to just wake up & have out of nowhere! i’m really happy for you & your recovery! thank you for making this
I had this in my recommended vids list today (5/17/19) and just wanted to say I'm so glad you stayed positive and that you healed quickly 😊 Also holy Jesus you're handsome
@@kalim4 it can happen suddenly. It was around Christmas when I got it. I was perfectly fine and then one day I woke up and noticed my left side was acting weird (eye watering, I kept spilling my drink on me). Didn't think anything about it until my husband looked at me and spoke up that my left side was droopy. After talking with his mom (she's a nurse), we went to the ER and they were able to diagnose it. It got better within a month and a half, but I still had residual effects for about 6 months. Even now, I get very minor stuff, but no one but myself notices them. It's not fun to go through because there's really nothing you can do for it except wait.
Wow, this what I needed.. had my first symptoms 25th Dec 2023.. I was actually misdiagnosed as having had a stroke. It threw me into all forms of depression . Am currently a month old with bells palsy and it's been hard. But this video was everything I needed to give me hope. Thank you 😊I will smile again .
Thanks for this, it helped me when I was suffering. It's been three weeks since I got Bell's palsy and I'm rid of it as of today! Don't despair, it will get better.
Thank you for this video. This is my 2nd day in Bell's palsy and I am really sad and feared. But I hope the best again because of your video-diary. Thank you very much :)
+MercuryLove46 90% :D There was nothing 3 weeks long, then a very quick recovery. So hold on! facebook.com/roland.endre.palosi There's my Fb account, I can send you pics and tipps if you want :)
+MercuryLove46 It's hard to stay positiv in this situation. But just smile! It looks a lil' bit screepy, but don't care! You need the good feeling for your recovery. :) An extra story: I was on a Job-Interwiew on my 5th day. I looked like Jabba, the Hutt, but I was optimist, is said to the Boss what my problem is. The answer: "I know this, my wife is a doctor" I love my new Job. :)
Dorraj While what you’re saying is true, having a happy and positive mindset can help your mental health. In those kind of condition, it’s easy to feel down and that can actually affect in what state your brain falls in. Maybe in terms of the paralysis it didn’t help much, but it still helped him :)
Glad you recovered man. Im fresh into this and very worried currently, as i feel it getting worse by the day. Seeing that you had the same experience, but ended up fine has brought me some relief. Thanks for sharing.
I had it in my mid twenties and recovered in about 3 weeks. However it left me with a slight droop but so mild that you barely notice it except if I try to smile really big then my mouth does not go as high as the working side but it has not destroyed my life. At the time I found it extremely disturbing and embarrassing but now knowing it did go away I am so thankful that it didn't stay permanently. Do not be bummed even if it leaves you with a small issue afterwards you can live with it and still be beautiful. I mean what's on the inside really counts anyway. It generally goes away. I think you are brave and smart to be so open with it on youtube, it probably helps a lot of other people who get it.
+Haute Swan "Do not be bummed even if it leaves you with a small issue afterwards you can live with it and still be beautiful. I mean what's on the inside really counts anyway." --> Thank you so much for your comments! I agree completely. :-)
He seemed so positive while doing this. If I was diagnosed with that I would freak out on extreme levels. This makes me feel like you can always be able to keep a composure even in bad situations. Keep on motivating!
omg im crying..tengo una semana con paralisis de bell y han sido de los dias mas dificiles de mi vida pero este video me ha devuelto la esperanza seguire con mi terapia dia a dia..GRACIAS..
thank you for sharing this video. today May 15th 2018 I woke up with a weird feeling on the right side of my face I was scared to death I woke my wife up and told her I think I've had a stroke. went to the doctor at 8 that morning and was given a neurological exam . The doctor told me that I had Bell's palsy. I didn't know what to expect. watching your video really made me think about getting out and doing something. I thank God that it was not a stroke. I was put on steroids to help. I was told by the doctor it may be days it may be weeks or the may never go away. I have hope. I have God on my side. I will get better
@@prodigalosu well I m asking him now that he has recovered how is he doing , his life his present situation . Also there are Chances that the disease reoccurs !!!
My brother woke up with this disease in his 30's. He had complete paralysis for over a year but did recover. He was unable to blink his eye at all and had to wear a patch to keep it from drying out. Glad you are back but very scary.
I remember my dad coming over to my old place and he had this. It scared me so much. I thought he had had a stroke. Thank God he got over his quickly as well.
This is actually amazing. I was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy when I was 12 and it was traumatizing for me because other kids bullied me. I wish I could have watched this video during that time because I’m sure I would have felt a little more confident in what was happening to me. Luckily, it wasn’t permanent for me and only lasted 2 and a half months. Thank you so much for sharing this story for us! I’m sure it will help quite a few people 😀
Got diagnosed with this today, combine my crippling anxiety on top of that, I'm trying to fight having a panic attack. Thank you so much for this video, I'm surprised at how little information is out there about this.
I was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy several years ago but mine was on my left side, took me a long time to recover and to this day I still have a left sided weakness oddly. The human body’s a weird thing( well mine is) lol xxxxxxxx
My bell palsy is also gone! When I got Bell’s Palsy I just saw your clip and I was holding on to your story It makes me strong and I was glad to see you facing this recovery of your face. Thanks
Thank you so much for your comment and I'm thrilled to hear you recovered! I hope your comment inspires others to know that recovery almost always just takes a few weeks or a couples months.
That what I thought its been 10 years but I still feel and see it on my face - and the very close people around me"I still cant shut my eye completely while sleeping and my mouth moves a little whenever I blink... I didn't recover 100% even though I was still 13 but I guess it has to do more with the body itself than age or treatment.
