My Journey With Mental Health *Mental Health Awareness Video Pt 2* Q&A

***Nervous again to put PT 2 out. As someone who has worked really hard through depression and overcame it, I can acknowledge that people who suffer from depression can be hypersensitive to criticism. Although my words may come off harsh at times, I say everything I say out of a place of love, not just to you, but to the younger me. I recognize my delivery isn't for everyone, but if it can push one person to fight and overcome depression- that's cool with me. I know depression isn’t easy to overcome first hand, I battled it most of my life! I go so hard because I don’t want to see anybody else have to battle it for as long as I did 💚.***
We’re in the beginning of May which I know as Mental Health Awareness Month. While I know this video can be triggering, I’d like to bring awareness to my story and to those who might have went through the same and are currently going through what I went through. In this video, I talk about what I’ve gone through and how I dealt with it. I also reflect on my experience with mental health, my journey with cutting and how childhood trauma affects people in their adult lives. Some may believe that their condition is a sign of weakness or that they should be able to control it without help. Seeking counseling, having a good support system, educating yourself about your condition, and connecting with others who have mental illness can help you gain self-esteem and overcome destructive self-judgment. My goal is to help break the stigma surrounding mental health so others can learn to accept their condition and recognize what they need to do to treat it. Helping educate others can make a big difference. Don't isolate yourself. You are not alone. If you have a mental illness, you may be reluctant to tell anyone about it at first. Reach out to people you trust for the compassion, support and understanding you need. You are not your diagnosis.

I revisit this video so often and it pains me how similar our stories are. I watch this video when I feel sad because there's so much peace in knowing that someone has gone through something so unbelievably similar to what I have. It's like seeing a reflection of myself, but an older version and two sides of a different coin. I hear your pain in how open you are in your vulnerability, I see your hurt, and in it I see myself. I'm so sorry for everything that you have been subjected to, but you have always provided me with so much freedom in knowing there's healing in rawness in spite of how people might feel about it. I purchased your book and I can't wait until it arrives so I can continue healing myself on this journey. I love you so much in spite of never knowing or meeting you, and I commend you for your strength because you have to recognize how many young women, but especially young black girls you have helped within this process. I'm always sending you love and light. I wish you the best on your healing journey.

So inspired.💫 hard being 19 & trying to understand why my mom is the way she is .. def unhealed trauma from her childhood. I’m more of her mother to her than she is to me. My whole life has been surrounded around toxic energy but hearing your story just helped me sooo much !!! Thank you a million times. YOU ARE A GIFT. I wish & hope your parents see that some day. I have faith they will someday. 🙏🏽 Your amazing.

the whole video was so inspirational and just a breath of fresh air. just real. but 8:08-8:40 really put a specific person in my mind and I'm going to let him know. he literally found safety in his anger and in his depression, he never wanted to address it and it took a toll on our relationship.. ima tough love person, but I think putting it the way you put will really touch him cause you been through it... thanks for sharing dyme. I can't wait to see more videos from you. vlogs, vent sessions, happy, sad.. just Make them cause I'm here for it lol.

I seen your post on IG and had to come on YT and really grasp your story. You help people...even professionals. As of yesterday I am now a Masters Grad with a degree in Advanced Clinical Social Work Practice who still deal with depression and anxiety; even while trying to help others. You are amazing and don’t think these professionals have it all together. We deal with heavy ish but your voice has caught my attention tremendously. I pray that your voice reaches people globally. The world needs you and you’re so important. Much love and respect ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm 33 and I had a horrible mom like yours. I went through so much depression until I was 24. It's the worst feeling when your own Mother doesn't love you. I found my strength through God. Today; I have a wonderful husband and 4 Beautiful children the I love to pieces every second! God Bless you!

Love this video! Kind of reminds me of my mother. Growing up I always felt like my mom always put others before me and my two brothers. I always wanted that close mother daughter bond. I always wanted to be with her i was so attached to her and would cry cause sometimes. she would leave us with friends half of the time we didn’t even know them. When i was 12 she moved to Alabama with her boyfriend and left me and my brothers with our father. It was so hard cause my dad only had one income trying to raise 3 kids on his own. Imagine how fucking hard that was and to see her in Alabama living her life like she didn’t even have kids. It kind of made me resent her in a way. I’m 19 now but i always told myself when that day comes and I become a mother i want to be the best mother to my kids than she ever was to me and my brothers.
