You're my new hero. extreme levels of organisation. I just bought the kemper for live use. I play mostly festivals and the load in and changeovers are so fast and furious. Kemper correctly setup will do me a solid. I'm a little nervous about it, especially the reliability, although I think its probably at least as reliable as a tube amp.
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 3 года назад
I would say so! Plus more consistent than mic’ing up an amp. Sounds like our motivations for getting one are similar. I’ve not regretted the switch for most gigs. I still use an amp at smaller gigs or ones I know there will be no soundcheck. When I need more on the fly control.

I really liked Your video :) I also did some kind of "Kemper Rack Patch" where I have -> 2x XLR, 1x Ethercon for Remote, 1x USB, 1x Jack for Speaker. I found it to be safest way to prevent my jacks from yanking them out by accident. Nice and clear setup!

Thanks Michal! I thought about doing the same but because my rack is so shallow it would have been quite awkward to do all of the connections. If I ever move to a bigger rig I would love to do something like that.

I've just found you and after watching your vids for about 30 mins so thought I'd subscribe. First time viewer so would be rude not to say Hi. I was looking for advice on how to set up my kemper in the studio. Specifically re-amping and midi control. And I found you. Like you, I've had it for some time and, know that it could be a useful tool. My problem is everytime I turn it on I get frustrated with all the options so I liked your approach on a few banks. Normal Amp for recording include a Wem dominator and a Selmer twin 30 and the IK Multimedia stuff so I am old school valve but like the digital domain for ease of use and crackle /pop free valves. Nice mod on the remote! Long live OCD..... sorry I meant O.C.D. Keep posting.

Thanks for checking out the channel. You sound like me mate, long time valve enthusiast but the Kemper is such a great tool for recording and gigging, even if the sound isn't always 100% to what it's profiling, the trade off is worth it for ease and reliability. I'm really glad my videos were some help! I actually haven't delved into re-amping with mine yet, although I do often take a dry feed from the Kemper's direct out. Then I can record it along side the main L&R incase of needing a different sound I can just use some plugins. So I guess it's sort of re-amping but not doing it with the Kemper. I appreciate the subscription too. All the best!

Have you seen the british audio mod for the kemper ethernet plug? Its the same style on the remote, locks in. So it won't get all loosey goosey on you.

I have indeed! While it’s very cool I personally didn’t want to spend that kind of money. My Kemper is also still under warranty so didn’t want to void that by attempting anything like that myself.

Sir could you please talk about that wah sound and how you get that? Can you share the effects preset if it’s from the Kemper. I love your videos.
@DanLeggatt

The one at the start and end? I actually can’t remember, it was for an instagram video months ago. It’s definitely the Kemper for amp sound but it’s possibly my Zoom ms50g for an envelope filter rather than the Kemper. You can definitely get similar on the Kemper by using a wah and setting to ‘touch’ mode.

wish id done the esthercon exteension before mine broke in the unit, now I have an extension hot glue gunned into the socket cos its the one thing kemper failed on, and its essential for touring players and most players who buy the expensive remote, for me the remote is $1650 dollars alone in nz on its own and its all let down by a 50cent cat6 socket on the unit

Great info Dan, I use a similar setup but with a deeper case so that the remote straps into the rear panel of the hard case. Just wanted to ask where you got the large button on the tuner switch?

Hey man ! I own the Helix and i'm building my live rig. I can see you don't use any power amp, so it's the Kemper direct into your cab. So I guess you use your power amp simulation from the Kemper ? I've seen a lot of videos where we are told that we need a "real" power amp when using a modeler with a "real" speaker cab. So I was wondering, is that true ?
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 года назад
It’s not the tone reason for doing so. You need a power amp to be able to ‘power’ the speaker cab. My Kemper is the power rack so has a built in power amp to drive a cab. The Helix doesn’t have that option so you would need an external power amp. SD power stage, EHX .44 magnum, orange pedal baby are all good, flat sounding options. You can also use the fx return of an amp if it’s set up right. Hope this helps 👍

So I've never had any profiling amps or anything like the Kemper or Axe fx, do they run straight into the cab or does it need to run through any type of power amp? Thanks in advance!
@0419210317
@0419210317 Год назад
There’s 2 versions. A kemper profiler and a kemper powered. The profiler will need a power amp to work with a cabinet and the power amp comes with one already inside, which is why they have different pricing. Hope this helps

If I understood you correctly, you'r not running to the house? You mentioned that you'r running to cabinets. Are your running into a stereo rig?

Stereo outs go to front of house. The cab is summed mono and only for me on stage.

Hey Dan how well does your 1x12 jet city cab handle the 600w power output of the kemper without the speaker getting damaged?
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 3 года назад
Hey, so it’s loaded with a 65 watt Celestion creamback. I was worried about it handling the power but after researching it, the kind of volumes I play at even on stage are in no danger of blowing the speaker. The recent updates of the Kemper gives you a readout of the power you are sending out to the cab to be sure. The reason they include such a high wattage amp is to keep headroom apparently. I would say you are safer getting a higher wattage cab but I’ve had no problems. Your mileage may vary.
@dattoboy1
@dattoboy1 3 года назад
@@DanLeggatt thanks for your reply Dan. I have a Positive Grid Bias head which also is 600w. Been looking at new speakers and I have been wondering what I should get to handle the power, but it sounds like it might not matter. The difference with the Bias is I don’t have any way of knowing how much wattage I’m cranking out. I’ve contacted positive grid about this but their customer service is horrendous. I think I will end up selling it and move on to a kemper! Shame because I love using the bias and it sounds phenomenal, every bit as good as any other modeler out there.

Anybody know how to copy a rig from 1 kemper to another Kemper (just 1 rig..not the entire library of profiles and rigs) my son's kemper has a rig I want to use on my Kemper.

If you use rig manager, just copy the rig onto your desktop and then add the other Kemper and paste it.

😂😂 Stalkers form an orderly queue! It’s just belt and braces, you can be as careful as you want but other people on stage during set up and pack down can easily lead to accidents.

@@DanLeggatt Totally joking…Haha. Or how do you British say”Just being cheeky”? Anyway, im a fan of your channel. I bought a Kemper and returned it literally after 2 days.Its not that I couldn’t get good tones,but more so that i get more enjoyment from playing real amps. I realize that now. No matter how good the sound,i just get more inspired from powering up a good tube amp. I guess im a bit old school and nostalgic
@DanLeggatt
@DanLeggatt 2 года назад
@@Boogieplex For sure. It's a funny situation because I make content for the Kemper, a lot of people assume I'm trying to turn people away from amps or I think it's the best thing in the world. Kemper / modelling in general isn't for everyone. To me it's a tool to get a job done. For the work and gigs I do I would be carting around a huge pedalboard and at least 2 amps. It's just not practical. Plus reliability, stage volume etc. I can get the Kemper 90% of the way there and it's so much more consistent and practical for a touring musician. That being said, I still use valve amps all the tim. Any pub / bar gigs or dep gigs I always use an amp. Any blues or rock gigs that I only need a few sounds I still use an amp. Still buy amps all the time. I have people ask me if they should buy a Kemper and it's totally situational. If you have an amp that you love and a few pedals, the Kemper probably isn't for you. If your a cat that needs 20 different amp sounds on a gig or you can't use an amp in your apartment, you should probably look into a Kemper, AxeFx, Helix etc. Sorry, bit of a rambling post haha! Appreciate the comment man!
