Yousiff - The comments are all over the place. Some are positive and some negative. One way to learn is by trying things on your own and over the years you'll learn what works for you. Keep moving forward because I look forward to your videos. They are better than anything on TV these days. Good luck dude and keep working hard.
Half the people talking about truck don't know head from thier ass about a truck melton takes care of trucks way better than most all other carriers this is a old melton truck any used truck will have issues
Yousif, I give you 2 pats on the back for allowing us to see the ups & downs in trucking! I give you kudos for being so open w your followers! A lot of big time YT channels wouldn’t DARE post what your posting & I thank you for being so optimistic & really showing us how things happen in this industry! #newsub
sorry man, but just like life, this is a learning curve for you. Keep pushing forward, expenses and issues behind you, live and learn and push on! Don't let it get you down for long. Get bummed, get pissed but get on with it. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start.
You should not have paid the $490 , its the dealer that stretched the belt to to take off the water pump. After installing back on its starter slipping (thats why it was making noise) , the belt was not making noise when you took it in for the leaking water pump. Also they double charged you for the labor on the belt , they had to take it off to change the water pump. Call your dealer make some noise and get a full refund on the belt.
belt did not get stretched, the belt tensioners sieze up and when you move them to remove the belt they will not put the proper tension back onto the belt, its a known issue, belts are also a wear item just like brakes and clutch items
Yup! And use this platform of RU-vid help you. So many DYI videos on how to fox this and that. Watch on your off time to familiarize yourself with that make and model etc.
My friend, that truck is a good-looking pile of garbage. It will not give you anything but trouble, please research the subject of maintenance well before buying a runned-down fleet truck with no maintenance history.
what you talking about melton have pretty good maintenance waterpump leaking is nothing.... you dont seriously consider that a problem?! thats like people calling a coolnt hose leak a huge breakdown its a good clean truck . its not a blown head gasket man
He started with a pickup truck (HotShot), wasted that truck my not maintaining the transmission. So what does he do, goes and buys a used big truck. They drive amongst us .....
@@PP-uv1kw any truck can have an issue. Especially if the prior owner or driver didn’t keep up on maintenance. Also, the engine is a Cummins. Which for the most part are extremely well built engines. They, like any other engine out there, can have water pumps fail after a few hundred thousand miles.
@@PP-uv1kw KW makes quality trucks. But this particular model is shit, not to mention it probably has a couple hundred thousand on it. Not a good purchase. I wish the best for him tho.
We bought a 2014 Peterbilt 579 Paccar MX13 from Rush in Fontana and come to find out the engine was rebuilt with a new block and that wasn't disclosed to us. Salesmen are sneaky and prey on your dreams. Having crank seal leaks. Just redid the whole DPF system. Has it removed and cleaned. These are the questions I know for next time...asking about service on the engine , filters, etc
@@fgrodriguezqac whatever issues are found by the owner are pointed out and should be taken care of. Don’t just drive off knowing there’s an issue and you have to pay for it not the seller.
@@XX-166 You are correct but in order for the owner to point out the issues such owner needs to know how to identify issues but I don’t get the feeling this guy knows much. For god sake, in his previous video when he was reviewing the truck he spend 90% of the time inside the cabin showing the bed, the fridge, the little window in the back, a table, etc.... about the engine he only said “it was pressure washed and they added more grease after washing it” 🤦🏻♂️, he brought his brother who is a driver and NOT a mechanic. If you are going to invest 50K+ into a truck and you don’t know jackshit about engines you need to bring a mechanic with you or at least have a shop (NOT the one owned by the dealership) on stand by for you to drop the truck and have them do a full inspection. From his video he said himself he thought he was going to buy the truck and be ready to start hauling loads the next day. I think he likes to cut corners, he likes to save every single penny and that came to bite him in the ass. He should’ve got the truck and go to a shop and PAY a inspection fee to have the truck checked up and down by a professional and if or when they found something it would be written on a official report from an actual mechanic and with that he can go back to the place he bought the truck and show them the report with everything that was found wrong and force them to fix it but he probably didn’t want to spend the couple hundred bucks to have a shop inspect the truck. Now because he was cheap and wanted to jump steps he ended up with a truck parked for a week and lost income. 🤷🏻♂️
@@fgrodriguezqac you are correct... when you’re buying a truck with 500k on the dash ...caveat emptor... let the buyer beware. Hopefully he will have more luck with this truck then he did with the Ford as most are saying he’s gonna have even more troubles with this particular make and model. He should’ve done more homework.
Dang! Almost 65k views on this video!!! Atta boi!! Keep that head up. Never let dealerships make you pay for their mistakes. Always fight for the best prices. Keep doing what you do man
Young man, nice teeth, healthy weight, great skin........I got my license 19 years ago and I'm telling you from the bottom of my heart eat the loss sell that truck and do ANYTHING else.
Yep, I'm a qualified mechanic turned company driver. I agree with you. I hated mechanical repairs because of the stupid useless a-holes in spare parts sabotaging every single step of the parts ordering process. If only I just knew when I left what I know now - I was only dealing with one layer of morons, I'd never have started driving. As a driver the layers of morons is never ending - from suppliers, to motorists, to bosses/customers/receivers/dispatchers/police/regulatory authorities/service attendants/other truckers/members of the public/road workers so on and so forth into infinity. Heck and I'm only a lowly company driver. Imagine being an owner operator?? It's so bad out there, I was ordering a coffee recently and told them how I wanted it and the lady started arguing with me about how I will be having my coffee. I let her make it and then refused to take it or pay for it. I said to her that's not how it works - how it works is if you want my business I tell you what I want not vice versa.
IMO get the hotel room. Have them go over truck. I noticed there is nationwide road repair, towing (but not recovery) $400 a yr for semi. If they fix it for parts cost. Pay for another night in hotel. (I comment as I listen). If you break down 1x and it covers... You need to tell a shop that there is a Kenworth dealer nearby??? Keep old belts, hoses. (Unless totally shot). Quick roadside repair parts. Avoid buying stuff at 3x price at truck stop. That sat for 5 yrs in front of heat vent...
Warranty repairman all sign off once the paid part is installed, and if that repair goes beyond service hours with other issues, it’s put on hold in order to satisfy non warranty customers because that’s where the main dealership profits come from. Test drive your purchase 100% with a cheat sheet checking off detailed functions of everything inside and out, top to underneath, front to back and pay for a certified tractor trailer mechanic outside of the dealership.
You remind me of me in 10/2011. I took delivery of a 2012 T660 that I ordered with a 600HP Cummins and after two major engine failures it was garbage at 350,000 miles. Neither of which Cummins took responsibility for in compliance with their Progressive Warranty. It basically states that they will only warranty the 1st part that fails in the string of failures. That means that the first breakdown, a shattered porcelain fuel plunger took out all the injectors and although I was billed $14,000 they gave me back $6,000. This was because the triple plunger system had a potential to cavitation, ergo they changed the entire fuel delivery system. How I ended up responsible for all the injectors after initially purchasing $14,000 in extended warranties on all components to a minimum of 500,000 miles was beyond me. 100,000 miles later it turned a main bearing that pulled a rod and scored the block. A $35,000 engine bill of which Cummins said was sized by a pitting camshaft whose metal deposits caused the main bearing to turn and they offered to pay only for the camshaft. This was at 350,000 miles. I'd had the truck for 27months and I didn't have anywhere near that amount on hand to repair and had to forfeit the truck to auction and was on the hook for the remainder. 10 years after purchase, I'm still paying for that POS Cummins Engine. Buyer beware, Yousuf! Buyer beware. You should get rid of that red devil before it comes after you. Get yourself a Detroit in, say, a Western Star 5700XE. That's a similar style. You'd love it.
Sure you picked up a clean truck with a few miles on it but there will always be those things like a water pump, compressor, etc that will need replacing but once it's done it's done for a good while, that's the good side I try to lean on, learning how to do those repairs will save you alot of downtime and labor $$$ I'm sure the DPF system will want attention in the near future but let's gets some miles on the road and recharge the bank account :-) Be safe out there Yousiff!
The clicking door holder is a common issue on Paccar products (Peterbilts & Kenworths), only thing you can really do is replace it (hopefully before it breaks then anchoring bolts). Also on a Cummins engine that repeated moving noise you hear when you shut it down it normal, it is the intake throttle valve running its own checks.
He said I knew something was go happen to the truck "and it did" Its funny how we can manifest bad things instantly but when u manifest good things people tell u too be patient to receive it smh.. .
I’m sure the mechanic knew that noise was coming from the belt when they gave you the keys back 💡 Is it just me, or that seemed kind of shady to everyone else? If there was no noise coming from the belt before, then there shouldn’t have been any noise coming from it after the water pump was replaced 🧐 Once the pump was replaced, it should have been good. What was the name of that shop again sir, so other drivers will be aware.
They probably knew the belt got antifreeze on it and rolled the dice on not replacing it . I was always taught when a belt gets antifreeze on it , it gets replaced for this very reason
If the repair bills keep coming in at this price your soon gonna be begging for another f350 i think! That was basically 75k trouble free miles with only drivers lack of knowledge causing the transmission problem
Not the dealers fault its actually his fault because he is purchasing a used vehicle that has been sitting for a while. Before you buy any car or truck that has been sitting on the lot you the buyer are supposed to check everything thoroughly, test drive it for at least an hour up the hills and curves check for vibrations, any leaks or unusual sounds drive it to its maximum limits and if nothing breaks during the test drive then make the purchase decision. Unfortunately too many idiots buying blindfolded
Welcome to the wonderful world of OTR trucking.... You’d think dealers would keep common parts like water pumps, radiator system parts, alternator and turbo parts around for just in case, but I guess that would make too much sense. Them electric logs don’t seem to work out with down time... Breakdowns are the one thing I will never miss.
Kenworth actually buys directly from Cummins and distributes parts through their own PACCAR warehouses to their dealer. Some dealers do not have an account at the local Cummins distributor, warranty policies may throw a wrench into your dealer buying a water pump from another OE dealer as well as prices may be locked.
You're exactly right. It's naive to think the dealers are 'so dumb' that don't check other parts suppliers. I'm a forklift mechanic and our factory warranty parts HAVE to come from the manufacture, END OF, we cant just get the part from another supplier and send the bill to the OEM, it doesn't work like that! 😂 If we had to pay for the parts, (e.g machine maybe out of manufacturers warranty but sold 2nd hand with our own warranty) than we still wouldn't be getting the part from another dealer, we'd get maybe a 40-50% discount from the OEM but from another dealer we'd be paying close to retail. Thats why they don't check other dealers for parts availability - unless that dealer has multiple depots and will check the others buts that's as far as it goes.
Yousiff Good afternoon Sorry about the truck issues , you need to find a good mechanic in your town for truck maintenance and repairs. In wich city you leave ? Hope you start Trucking tomorrow. Regards Carlos Aguirre
All KW have same problems with the door, I have 2019 T680 KW , 400k miles, 3 years and been in shop 7 months and spend $-25k all ready in maintenance, that’s not including tires , oil , battery 🔋 or Pm :) just service 25k braking down:)
I'd bet money they have the pump in stock. But because that job is listed as a warranty, they don't take stock parts. Have seen it many many times. My cousin worked at a dealer also and it was their policy to order and wait on parts for any warranty work. Had it happen to me on a 2007 isx Cummins. When my egr went out and they said 2 days for parts. Walked out side and called parts department at the dealer I was at and they had multiple on stock...ended up buying out of pocket and submitting warranty papers myself
I think I would of done some hard research on what kind of semi to buy and which motor is gonna be worth my time to make money in this business. I really hope this is just a little bump in the road for you and you make some money in this thing.
Back in the early seventies a delivery driver show up with a new truck. He told us that each time his company got a new truck their head mechanic had all the mechanics tighten all the nuts, bolts, screws. They frequently found that fasteners were not torqued to specification. Lesson learned.
That's not why they charge a markup on the parts from Cummins they will order a part for $500 and then charge full retail or even up change so that $500 part is now $800 or $1,000 for it so as far as the dealerships concerned they ain't losing any money if your truck's parked there for 3 weeks sometimes they will even charge you storage on your bill.
It's a good habit to answer your phone. I used to do the same as you. Until one day I got a call from new Jersey I didn't answer they let a voice mail my friend had a vehicle accident and was killed we were business partners so they called my number from a business card his wallet and cell phone was lost in the accident. Anyway it doesn't take much effort to answer the phone.
It has been extremely difficult getting certain parts from cummins lately as the loss of production has finally caught up and there inventory is low. I've waited weeks for certain parts recently
I rather just get a new truck because when you factor in labor, the tow, parts, the money you missed out on while broke down, the hotel room or rental car home. You better off just making a higher payment and not having a worry about a break down at all.
Pretty sure that wasn't the belts but the vgt turbo doing it's full movement cycle to clean off any soot on the veins. Should basically do that almost every time you shut it off
You are the coolest man handling this problem, water pump on a new vehicle is a bad omen what kind of service will you get in the future, what is the warranty on a new truck
I agree. Lube may fix the problem. I hear doors on cars clicking often. Let to run dry, the hinge will fail. I periodically use a spray lube on my doors.
Just seems funny that the mechanic that change the water pump didn't hear that belt screaming like that after putting it all back together and that he didn't say anything to you. unless he was afraid you were going to try to make them pay for it. Hopefully the place that you bought it from takes care of paying for that belt to I'm sure we'll find out in your next video. Can't wait to see you put that big truck to work
I live in Tulsa, ok. hope you had a good time here outside of the truck issues! not in the past nor now do I want to try truck driving but these videos are interesting! good luck pal.
I SEE WHAT YOURE DOING! This is how it works.... EXPEDITE VAN to HOTSHOT TRUCK EXPEDITE to SEMI TRUCK EXPEDITE to TRAIN EXPEDITE to PLANE EXPEDITE to CARGO SHIP EXPEDITE...... YOU ARE ON TRACK! I AM A SUBSCRIBER AND APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS!
So i work for a dealer that sells parts (not big rig stuff, but same concept). When we have a unit break down and need parts, we go to the manufacture because we get better prices and spending money with that company goes farther. When you buy parts from other companies/3rd you pay more, pay higher freight and some even charge you tax. So not surprising that did that.
Unfortunately Yousiff, they don't care about the trucker/customer, they care about their bottom line, especially on warranty claims. They likely have fixed pricing with Cummins/Detroit/Paccar/Volvo/CAT and hated to order outside of them.
This just happened to me on January 30. Which was a Saturday, I bought truck from Arrow Truck sales of Houston. The DEF sensor fail on me 290 mls into a 320 ml trip. On 30 mls to go and I had to get a tow.
Bought 2 used trucks with problems first one $2000 repair dealer covered $500 Palmer Kentworth second time I made sure I had extended warranty before purchasing best thing I could’ve done
i guarantee you are not a truck driver newly bought trucks break down alot until you know your truck and its problemsy. it gets better . it doesnt get worse
if its eating coolant, your head gasket will not last long, man if possible Return this thing ASAP , and either buy new semi or keep the hotshot, best advise, gonna be big issues down the rd.
From the beginning we could tell the engine didnt sound healthy. I know in the comments its been said it didnt sound healthy. Ive always learned if its got new tires check all the fluids
that's surprising, most of the new trucks I've driven didn't have a water pump issue, instead it was the DPF system failing lol... and always about an hour into my drive...
In 2016 I had purchased a use DD15 Freightliner cascadia 2011 with 4000 miles on it . ABS light on after like 70 miles away from the dealer. I called them to notify the problem the sent me to the nearest Freightliner dealer in Nebraska. Probl solved and I pent 1 day in Hotel . I drove that truck for 4 years and I paid it off early with my own saving so I ain't save a dime since I got the garbage. It took all the 💰the I work for . I used to spend 3 weeks out and 1 week off hey truck always had some repair like replacing some parts and money gone. I'll never again by a use truck in my life my experience with a use truck was terrible. I have a year with a brand new 2021 KW900 with Cummings on it 13 speeds and 550HP.
water pump must be part which is always on stock I am supersized that you have to wait so long. And please do not move so much when you are outside I got dizzy :-)
What you should have done was called the dealer your truck was at and asked if they had a water pump for sale they would have said yes. I’ve been doing this trucking stuff for a while. You’re getting warranty work done. Warranty trucks are always left to be done last because there’s no customer to hand them 1000s on labor and parts, So calling around to see what dealer has. Part has nothing to do with it. They tell you a day or two and once the work order is filed. Then they’ll make up excuses because you’re going to believe them.
So you got your truck back and you just start it without checking the coolant and oil levels.Dont ever trust anyones work.Should have had them fix your door since you were there so long.
Lol get this, we bought a New 2020 KW T880, not even 3k miles in the EGR goes out. Good thing we had a 750k mile warranty. But seriously, these trucks need to be improved on. Same with the damn harnesses. 2019 KW T880 went through 4 ABS harnesses before 250k miles. Crazy lol
You’ll learn from experience that fleet trucks from Dealerships are the worst to buy. It’s better to buy directly from an O/O or private seller looking to get out the business or upgrade or something.
Had a 2014 T-680. It was not a spec`d truck. In fact, we bought 2 of them in 2015, they had been sitting a year already in a lot in Ohio. Had my share of problems, some major, mostly minor ones. Firmware glitches, needed updates that OBVIOUSLY were not applied during the PDI. The thing that really irked me the most wasn`t that it had problems, it was the dumb broad on the day shift in the service department. I`d call in with this problem, usually I could limp it home, and I wanted to bring it in for them to look at the problem. Beyond the lengthy booking date for an appointment, I always got the standard `Who`s going to pay for it?` line, every single time, that is what she would ask. I think it was the 2nd time I called in about something, my response to her stupid line was `Don`t these things come with a one-year warranty? Charge it to the sales department.`
Yousif, you are an amazing person to stay positive amongst all this. The dealer should have been bending over backwards to take care of you but that's not what they did, even the pissed-off-cowboy-key-getter was a dick! I'm in the road service business & I treat my customers how I like to be treated.
That is a worthless shop, period. Were the belt squealing when it was leaking? If not its a install labor problem from the shop. Hope you're successful young man. Almost 25 years of trucking, most are out to take a buck from you.
