It was a great feeling to hold this in my hands after wanting to buy one for so long. I've already started getting my new M1 Garand ready for use in WW2 re-enactments by putting a blank adapter on it and ordering some new parts like I explained in this video. Make sure to subscribe to the channel because I will be posting POV footage using this M1 after my next reenactment event.

Because I’m thanking someone for their love of the military. I don’t see what’s wrong with me being just as enthusiastic as he is about his items. You have no idea who I am and so making a judgment on a few sentences displays your lack of intelligence. Maybe I can start making judgements on you just as you did for me and we can see where that would go. Or could learn how to show some respect for someone who fought in Iraq three times and got hit by ieds because I’m a 1371 combat engineer and then getting shot. If you saw the brace I have to wear to walk or the cane because I can’t walk without them or the service dog to help me with my ptsd or the Purple Heart I received you would change your tone.

Since you have a 1942 manufactured receiver CMP would have measured for receiver stretch before shipping giving you years of good shooting. Another item, by mid to late 1943 Springfield changed from a milled trigger guard to the stamped trigger guard to speed up production. From 1937 to end of WWII production, Springfield and Winchester produced over 4 million rifles. As grate resource is the GCA (Garand Collectors Association), and there are plenty of other online resources about the M1 Garand. Very nice rifle, congrats.

congratulations! Welcome to the Garand club. I recently got a M1 from the CMP that was similar to yours. I live in Ohio and went to the North store. I picked out one that had a matching receiver and bolt that was made in the summer of 42. It also had a 43 barrel that had a 0+ muzzle wear reading. It was so nice that the guys behind the counter tried to talk me out of getting that one, perhaps so their buddies or themselves could get it instead. I was like, no that's the one I want. WW2 barreled Garands are pretty rare, most were fitted with post war barrels sometime after WW2. Ammogarand makes reproduction lockbar sights that are much cheaper than originals and the color will match your battleship grey receiver, unlike original sights.
@MineTwine45
@MineTwine45 3 месяца назад
Just picked mine up from the North Store yesterday. Slim pickings nowadays since they won't get a shipment before the national matches start but I found an August of '43 receiver with a few other mismatch parts but it has an International Harvester bolt which is still kinda neat. Can't wait to go send some rounds downrange.

I have a few Garand’s and they are great rifles . One is a Winchester and it has a lot of dings in the stock by I will never change it as it’s part of it’s history. Mine was a post WWII Danish lend lease rifle and still has the 300 meter zero sticker on the inside of the stock . It also has the serial # stamped into the heel of the stock that actually matches the receiver . The only thing I’ve done is put a Garand Gear gas plug in it so I can shoot modern ammo in it if I choose to or run out of Ball ammo .

Congratulations on your first M1! I love mine, with a June 1943 receiver and 1952 barrel. Stamped triggerguards went into production in 1943 so that's not incorrect for a wartime rifle. Lots of milled triggerguards were still in stock, so it wasn't unusual for rifles with both types to be shipped at the same time. A lot of Winchester M1s had stocks made of beautiful premium wood that had been in the Custom Shop's inventory.

Such a nice piece of history. I also got my M1 garand from CMP in 2010 in the Oxford AL store so I was fortunate enough to have a great variety to choose mine from. This was when CMP had just got an entire warehouse full of M1 garand and M1carbine plus a few training weapons in so I could get a great Field grade M1 garand for $575. However mine has mix seri# and was produced post Korea but has a perfect rifled grade,no pitting,and the stock is from WWll with personalized carvings in the butt stock including a date 1914. So far the only thing I've had to replace is the gas plug but that was my fault

Congrats man! The Garand is an incredible weapon. I bought mine several years ago from the CMP. Mine is a 1943 manufacture, and all but three parts are original. I bought it to shoot, so I brought it to the range immediately. There was an old veteran from the Korean War at the range that day and he came over for a look. He asked if I had adjusted the sights yet and asked if I wanted help doing it which I of course agreed to. He quickly dialed in the correct settings from memory and it shoots better than any other rifle I have. That's amazing considering it's 80 years old! Have fun with yours!

Good luck to you. I got the same fever 25 years ago. I bought a Russian myosin nagant 91. Rear tang 1989, barrel 1910, German capture marks and finish marks. Germans captured many of these but had to sell off per WW1 treaty probably to Finland. Bore okay for the most part but rifling strong. Headspace good and I could hit 5 rounds in a baseball size from a rest 100 yards. I was hooked and kept going. Just study what you may buy, a little history and you should have a great hobby if you increase your collection. Legacy collectibles is a great site, little pricey sometimes but quality arms. I learned a ton of info just studying comment sections.also, they have several click bites into a history of the particular firearm sometimes

If youre not familiar with Scott Duff he has the best books on the developement and production numbers, serial numbers to manufacture date and correct parts for certain ser numbers! If you want to put together a correct m1 or replace parts his books are great! I call them the M1 bible! He has three books one on the ww2 era garand , one on the post war garands and a pocket reference book for quick reference at gun shows and such! They are great reads and a awsome reference to have on your shelf! The M1 garand is the most badass rifle to shoot! I wouldnt take anything for mine! Ive been to the Anniston Alabama store several times! Cool place! They are now selling surplus 1911s as they get a shipment in from government! Mail order only!

The CMP is great. Every M! Garand I own has been from them sans one. Nothing more fun than picking one out from their South Store. Wait till you get a jeep now! Real USGI lockbar sights are still easy to find and not too expensive. Your rifle will most likely have a tyoe II lockbar rather than the earlier flush nut.

When you pull the operating rod back use your hand with palm up and curl your fingers back. This is to prevent an accident if the rifle fires the operating rod handle will clear your hand. If you do it with palm down the operating rod handle will catch your thumb. I was taught this in boot camp at Parris Island in 1961 where we were issued M1's.

Based on the vertical ray xylem on the op rod side of the buttstock I would say it’s made of beechwood. I would speculate it is a rifle that saw service postwar with the Danish army and they are the ones who replaced the walnut stock with beech. Beech is much more widely used in Europe than in the US.

WW2 dated, seemingly never used, found in a junk shop.

@@WorldWarWisdom IIRC it had some sort of designation on it like "bag, blanket, surgical field hospital" or something. Apparently, it was important to have a bag specifically for blankets not "bag, huge, for stuff needing a huge bag QM-194474664". The US Army seemed to love spending time designing stuff for very specific tasks.
