We are always our worst critics! I love this cowl neck dress on you! You absolutely need to give it some wear!!!! :) Love your videos. Hello from Ontario, Canada :)
New subscriber, love your videos and makes. I think the Sicily dress looks gorgeous on you but its what you feel comfortable in that matters. Perhaps cutting it shorter so its a mini for going out?? Looks beautiful any way you choose to wear it
You are definitely not alone on feeling a bit sad when summer turns to fall. I try to keep my joy up with engaging projects… I think your makes are very well made and flattering on you, including Sicily dress. Perhaps a necklace with white stone or such near your face would pick up your own perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous makes!! I actually love the bias cut dress on you, but it’s really about how you feel in it. In fall I love to hunt mushrooms and then throw dinner parties
I have a beautiful soft velvet gothic style long jacket with lace cuffs. Wear a long soft jacket or cardigan with your slip dress, buttoned just at the waist, in your preferred colour.. Lovely on you. Or think 90s grunge ✨😉✨
love your makes. the dress is beautiful and could benefit from a coloured lace, ribbon, something to draw attention from the beige. it really does look great on you and is fantastic as a skirt.
Jumping in to comment on your lovely slip dress. The fit is beautiful on you. You have altered it to suit your body in a very lovely way. I am probably old enough be your auntie so take this as you will - can you add something like a sweater in your colors to accent your face? I personally need clear whites and jewel tones or brights for my coloring so I understand your hesitation to have this off-white/beige color next to your face. It can be fixed but I think the black sweater is too stark. Perhaps a red or a brown or green that compliments your skin tone? Prints open up options.
Thank you for your message and good idea! I agree, the black sweater looks a bit stark in that outfit. I don't have enough variety in my sweaters to be able to play around with color near my face - that's something I can focus on building in my wardrobe this fall/winter season!
I don't know if the video isn't showing the colors well but you look gorgeous in the slip dress. What about making a tie or belt in the fabric or a coordinating fabric to help define your waist?
I actually think the last dress is really pretty on you color wise. If I had to guess on your color palette you are an Autumn.... you have contrast in your features, and between hair and skintone, but black almost seemed too much? I'm a winter, which goes more to the cool side with high contrast, but have been thinking black is still a bit too dark, so you might be in that boat too if you are more cool. Color Me Beautiful is a channel (there at least was a book published probably 30 years ago that my Mom had, but they are still around and started putting out discussions in 2020 about color palettes and such while working from home. I think you mentioned kind of trial and error figuring out colors..... maybe not this video, but anyway, highly recommend checking out their videos to help figure out the color situation. Anyway, love watching your projects so far, and am just getting into sewing, so it is interesting to see how you go about planning your handmade wardrobe.
Thank you so much and what great advice! I did some looking, and I think you're right about my color palette being more of an Autumn. This is so helpful! 😊
New to your channel and I love your makes! Thank you for sharing :-) Do you know what pattern is used for the light green skirt you're wearing the Brene' top around timestamp 8:08? I think it looks like Sew Liberated's Estuary Skirt but couldn't be 100% sure.
Thank you so much! That green skirt is the Annette skirt by the French patternmaker République du Chiffon (and there are English instructions available too) 😊
Thank you so much! Yes, if you mean the blue and pink pastel skirt or the yellow skirt I'm wearing in the beginning footage, both are Helen's Closet Donovan skirts that I made 😊
Discovered your channel today and I feel so grateful for your videos, plans, tips… love your style! I too suffer from summer mourning 😂usually keeps me in a limbo for 2-3 weeks… I live the light, the sea, the woods of the US east coast… please continue to share, a big hug from Milan
Great video! The slip dress looks wonderful on you. I also have an hourglass figure and always feel the need to emphasize my waist, but I'm trying to experiment and see if other silhouettes look good on me too. Also, you speak wonderful french! I am learning french as well (I married a French-Canadian), and I aspire to speak as well as you do someday!
Bonjour de la Suisse Sarah! Just found your channel and love everything about it! Look forward to many more videos from you. I am getting very excited about my fall sewing plans, more automnal colours and longer sleeves. Take care! 😊
Hi there! I heard about your channel from The Wolblom Knitting Podcast. Love your items. I am inspired to start making more of my own clothes again, after a few years break. I stopped because of bad quality materials and since found some great shops with high quality fabrics. Thanks for the inspiration. We are going to summer here in South Africa and I have some patterns lined up to try out. Have a great rest of your week!!
Just subscribed to your Chanel, as a knitter and sewer I tend to enjoy Autumn/winter months, I like to cosy up and craft. Look forward to seeing what you make next, thanks for sharing x
Thanks for sharing your beautiful makes! I love the vibe in your videos, so relaxed and serene and with a gorgeous lighting. If you continue making and wearing light floaty garments the autumn perhaps doesn’t feel so gloomy?
Thank you! Haha, I'm tempted, but I also suffer from being perpetually cold once the temperature drops below 68 F (20 C) and it's a strong dissuading factor! Maybe if I layer strategically...
I love your videos☺️! Thanks so much for sharing your lovely makes and your honest feelings about the end of summer, oh how much I can relate... 😅I think the slip dress looks fab with the jumper and will be good for autumn too! I just made the Tessuti Berlin jacket out of a too expensive merino wool to boost my sew-jo for autumn as well as a full-body suit for the baby and a new jacket for my 3 year old, with cat buttons (of course 😸), that was so much fun that it made me forget it’s not a summer dress 😄I can’t wait to see what you will make for your friend’s baby 🥰
@@Sarah_Naomi I think so too, and my son loves it! Maybe I finally find some time to post it on Instagram to revive my account (haven’t posted anything since baby #1 came 😄]
I actually think the slip dress looks lovely on you. Lovely vlog, you are doing a great job with these, and your makes are just beautiful. Books I've enjoyed lately - Bewilderment by Richard Powers and currently, The Wedding Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell.
Thank you so much! I've been meaning to read Richard Powers since I heard him on the Ezra Klein podcast - I'll add this one to my list! Yes, I can't wait to read Maggie O'Farrell's newest release. I really enjoyed Hamnet :)
Just found your channel and really enjoyed your vlog. You sicily slip dress is beautiful and I think it suits you. I can see why you like layering it too though having the different colour closer to your face. I have been reading a book called The Flame of Resistance by Damien Lewis which I can recommend reading. Looking forward to your next post.
Hello! It's nice to get an update on the blue dress :). Couldn't you wear a thin turtle neck under the dress instead of over or a simple white Tshirt ? Otherwise, I'd wear a cropped wooly sweater on top and I think it could look really nice 😃
Oh, I do have an Elliot Sweater (by Helen's Closet) that I made in a white knit fabric last year that might look good over it - I'll try it! Thank you 😊
I'm a new subscriber here. I really loved your content., especially the tip about using skin toned interfacing. Genius!! It's a difficult one about your dress. I can tell you love the fabric but I'm hearing from your words and body language that you really don't want to wear the dress😕. So when I'm in that situation I accept it and move right along. Make room for things that you love 😍
Thank you for your message! You're right, sometimes I feel guilty about letting go of projects that just don't turn out right and I spend energy thinking about how much time and money I've wasted, but I'm sure that both of those will make the dress special to someone else if I do donate it in the end!
