I’ve been in Perth for the last week staying on the beach in Femo with some pals, i love it so far. I think Perth could be the contender for the place I choose to stay

I can answer some as I live in Perth too. We call what you sit on a bench as well. I call it the kitchen bench. Quokas are only on Rottnest Island as far as I know which is just off Perth. Cute little guys. Love them. Lizard is a bobtail. We use to have one who lived in our backyard. We lived beside a sand dune close to the beach so was always there. Ours liked a bit of raw meat and watermelon. You don't touch them. Their teeth are full of bacteria and will give you a nasty infection. And no they don't attack lol I'm from Queensland originally (40 years ago) and I call a skink this tiny, skinny lizard that you will sometimes find on a fence. Not dangerous. I will pick them up and move them as my dog loves to chase them and eat them. We get the occasional winter storm. Nothing too exciting. Flooding not really. Ground is sand, not dirt so water goes straight in after the rain stops. Goes into underground aquifer that runs from north of Perth down south. Only floods if drains overwhelmed and gone after not too long. Kym, I can't remember flooding, except that huge storm we had when everyone's cars, including mine got the hail damage. Can you? Don't know that it feels remote until you decide to go somewhere lol Can't say I've ever thought of it that way. My husband works on a mine site called Telfer. It's on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert up north. 2 hour flight to the middle of no where. That's remote to me. Couldn't think of anything worse but he loves it. We have a big mining community. Go to Perth Airport at 6am and you will see mostly people in hiviz catching their flight to work for a week or two all over WA. Commonly called fifo guys. My hubby hates the term and never admits to being a fifo guy. He is an away worker apparently lol

Koalas are only found on the east coast of Australia and unfortunately due to climate change and urban sprawl their numbers are fairly rapidly decreasing due to habitat loss :( So if you would like to come and see some Koalas in the wild I would recommend you come within the next 5 years or so, and even then they are a bit rare to see!

I reckon Dan. We have a what they call an outdoor kitchen here now. But definitely not as flash as Kyms. We hardly cook indoors in summer.

I have loads of chickens and ducks, I found a product on Amazon, an outdoor fly trap it caught thousands of them for very cheap!

Rain spiders?

There are lots about but they come down from the heavens

We don’t get water out of rain, but koalas, kangaroos, sharks, crocs and spiders 😂. It shows people should have had general knowledge lessons at school.

It was raining redbacks from the ceilings at my local primary school, after renovations that installed a new kind of insulation in the roof spaces. Unfortunately the venomous spiders thought it was just the spot to make a home. They were landing on the kid's desks. Much spraying during school hols now necessary.

haha, so wrong.. The best part of Australia is outside the cities.. I must have been lucky, rescued heaps of things from the bushes.. survived every time..

Mate, I'm miles away from Steve Irwin. Personally, I'm sure he was a nutter. But when you grow up in Australia, you don't notice the dangerous critters. We don't have Bears or Lions. Any Australian animal that can kill you mostly does so accidently, not because they're trying to. I play Golf. Badly. I spend an inordinate amount of time stomping thru the bush looking for my Golf Balls, and nothing nasty has ever bitten me. It's all what you're used to. Here in Perth it's cheaper to holiday in Bali than Sydney, so we go there regularly. I freak out at some of their insects, just because they're unfamiliar, but my own dangerous things don't bother me. Getting to swim, surf or sail with wild Dolphins occasionally is easily worth swatting a few spiders.

Rubbish. Lived here 30 years and not one bite or encounter with any dangerous critter. They're there, but they're not predators, they stay well away.

I love it that way
