Brad normally runs a 520gr arrow setup with a heavy F.O.C. (front of center). He has changed that up for our upcoming coues deer hunt. Tune in to find out how light these arrrows are and how fast they are shooting.

Hi Brian, my name is Jade Garcia. Just recently started binge watching all your videos on RU-vid over the holidays, I’m very interested in learning to hunt and to do it properly and you guys seem like the guys to watch. Would love to meet you guys one day in Alberta or something, would be amazing. Anyways thank you for the content and I can’t wait for more movies to come out. Any give aways coming up I could enter into for hunt gear and essentials?

Love my Garmin also, hopefully the west regulations will see the light of the ethics behind legalizing it for use in there state. Hell ,cant even shoot hogs with one in Oklahoma . Awesome work gritty crew on the videos. Stumbled apon you guys last week. Been watching every day since.

Totally agree. Used for first time on a Wyoming antelope hunt this last fall and was hooked. Wish it was legal in my home state of CO.

400 grains with an expandable is plenty for big whitetail, much less Coues. You will miss and wound more deer if you have a slow, heavt setup if youre shooting past 25 yards. Most bad shots don't hit the shoulder. I hate the Ranch Fairy😂

We all hate the ranch fairy. The dumbest trend in archery I’ve seen in 20 years.

Hey Brad, love the information ! That arrow is moving .. I am certain you saw the LEFT tail kick ? , I am also curious if with a fixed blade and that small tuning issue you are getting good flight at that speed ?
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 6 месяцев назад
At the time of this recording I had put about 10 arrows through the bow to sight in to 60 yards. I was able to see what the arrow was doing from the video and a little tuning and it is shooting bullets now. I have shot my fixed broadheads out to 70 and they are hitting almost identical to my field tips. I have not recorded them yet though to see their true flight.

Not sure how I just noticed this but Brad either got rid of his Ryan Lampers mountain 🏔️ man hair or has it tucked in his hat 🧢. Anyway that arrow setup will hunt 😎🏹🦌🏜️

My hoyt alpha x at 80lbs is pushing 337 on the chrono, idk why you're so much slower? I feel like 400 grains on 80lbs is rough on the limbs 😂😂 I am 31in draw that may be it but I wouldn't've thought it'd make that much difference
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 6 месяцев назад
That 1 inch longer will make a bit of a difference and my bow is maxed at 78. I could twist the cables etc, but that's where the sweet spot is with that bow and tuning. 400gr with 80lbs has to be rough on the limbs 😂
@nathan_chrisman24
@nathan_chrisman24 6 месяцев назад
Just curious is that the stainless steel insert that’s 22 grains? And is the arrow cut to 28.5” or shorter? I shoot a 30” draw and I run the Rip TKOs/XVs. I use the 50 grain inserts on both, arrow weights at 510/460. Great videos breaking down the coues deer setups. Looking forward to the films.
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 6 месяцев назад
The aluminum insert is 22gr which is what we are running on these arrows. Mine are cut right at 29” from the throat of nock.

More animals have been killed w a 400-420gr arrows then the new heavy arrow setups.
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 6 месяцев назад
I would say heavy arrow setups aren't new. Heavy arrows have been shot since the dawn of time, but I would say heavy F.O.C. is fairly new. A ton of states required no less than a 400gr arrow for hunting until just a few years ago. I do think most folks are around that 410-425gr arrow setup and it works just fine. Thanks for tuning into the show and helping us out by leaving a comment. It is very much appreciated.
@dantwaites7097

I appreciate the reply Brian. Personally i think alot of hunters get to into arrow and broadhead weights. When i first staryed bow hunting in the late 80's early 90's. All i shot for arrows were 2315 xx78's, with either 100 or 125gr rocky mountain preimer or supremes. With the introduction of speed bows broadheads got away from heavy and went to a mid-weight.
@Joeblk10
@Joeblk10 6 месяцев назад
You guys are great but I think It's dangerous for the average (90 plus percent) of hunters to shoot this light. They don't practice as much and a light arrow in your average 60 to 70 pound bow doesn't have the energy to pass thru if the shot isn't perfect. The average doesn't shoot perfect. The average take shots they shouldn't. The average think they're better than they are. And that's how animals get wounded and not recovered. Heavier higher foc arrows give more room for error and the average shooter is better served by them. IMO.
@brentbandy3566
@brentbandy3566 6 месяцев назад
I shoot a 415 grain arrow at 70lbs and pass through all the time. This heavy arrow craze has gotten way out of hand. A 420-440 grain arrow for the average archer is gonna take down any animal in NA.

@@leroyjones769 yep! Sharp BH’s and shit placement is number 1 and 1a of an ethical kill. And obviously taking a shot that you feel comfortable with.
@Joeblk10
@Joeblk10 6 месяцев назад
@@brentbandy3566 that's anecdotal. I said for the majority of people and stand by that. Hit a shoulder hone on an elk and you most likely wouldn't pass thru. That's physics. And I would argue the lighter faster arrow craze is even more out of hand.
@Joeblk10
@Joeblk10 6 месяцев назад
@@brentbandy3566 I agree but the majority of hunters don't practice enough or are good enough shooters. That's an unfortunate reality. They take shots they shouldnt and farther than they should. My point stands. Heavier gives more room for error in those cases. If everyone was a perfect shot it wouldn't matter

I quit the archery business because of corporate influence, infighting, and the ugliest argument of all of them all. Heavy VS light arrows. The absolute most pointless and ugly evolution of the industry and it looks like we will enter that era again.lets welcome back that egregious travesty full steam ahead. Anyone dusting off their overdraw? 😂 250 grain arrows and 89lb bows are coming soon to an archery shop near you! 350 fps! You can do it!! Lol.
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 6 месяцев назад
LOL! I’ve been around a long time in archery-obviously, you have too. Overdraws? That one made me laugh. Nah, I don’t really care how others do it. I try to use common sense. I have a great 525 grain arrow that I’m still going to shoot. But for coues deer, a 410 grain arrow at 315 fps with a very sharp broadhead is also a common sense decision. Hell, 410 grains isn’t even that light, I remember when guys were shooting 350 grain arrows all day. We’re just trying a different tool for a different job. I don’t do infighting, I’m not moved by corporate influence, and I’ve got too much work to do to argue about arrow weight. Ima just do my thing and share my experience as I go.
