Okay, hear me out: *Night of the consumers VR*

On my 4th rewatch, I JUST noticed that some of the products have slightly hidden messages. The ones I noticed were on the “cool kids juice” (GET OUT), the ketchup (Wasting your Life) and the miracle cream (You Are Wasting Away). I think that adds a level to this game, it’s not just about how customers are horrifying, but how retail jobs are straight up soul sucking.

I like how the customers are fine with the employee throwing a box at them but if you can't find the aisle that they want to go to, they immediately want to speak to the manager

"EXCUSE M--" "NAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" ...as someone who worked retail for almost 7 years, I can say that that IS an accurate reaction.

I’ve been working retail for 3 years and counting, EVERYTIME a customer looks in my general direction I keep repeating under my breath “don’t talk to me oh god please”

I’m rewatching this after Mark totally actually played the new update and man it’s so funny to see his reactions to stuff be so similar

me: it's just a trip to the store it's not a big deal my anxiety:

when he ran into the staff room screaming "NOOO!!!" i laughed so hard imaging the customers asking for help and mark just running into the staff room screaming "NOOO LEAVE ME ALOOOONE!!!!"

I can't believe Mark got the updated version three years before it was publicly released.

"I want to speak to a Manager." Yeah... that would be the scariest thing to anyone working customer service. Damnit this is actually the thing of nightmares.

I love how the point of the game is to throw boxes onto customers to slow them down while you get to safety. But marks instincts make him take them to the correct sections of the store.

The most unrealistic thing about this game is the fact that the customers are polite enough to say "excuse me".

Everyone I've ever known, very much including myself, has had extreme anxiety asking for help from store employees and would apologize for bothering them, some even if it was the only way to get what they wanted because it was locked behind a case. It never occurred to me the anxiety goes both ways, even though it seems obvious now. God, now I'm gonna feel even more anxious asking for help.

I love the optimism of this game. You enter a staff only room, and the people just go away. Rather than just standing outside the door saying "Excuse me!!!" For the next ten minutes while your just trying to find the right vegetables to restock produce and crying in the freezer.

Imagine trying to ask an employee where the pasta is and the employee just throws a box at you.

This game also confirms that as a consumer, when you can't find a sales associate they are in fact trying to hide from you

I love creative horror games like this that have a random premise but are both extremely funny and scary. we need more games like this

Most realistic game of the year. Between Mark being confused as to why he gets fired when he did absolutely nothing wrong and not understanding the actual "objective" are the most realistic parts 🤣🤣

I currently work at a hardware store, and I can confirm that when a customer says “excuse me”, it is the single most anxiety inducing feeling you will ever have. They ask you about things you don’t understand and you have to guide them to where you think it is, afraid they’ll come back to berate you because they don’t find what they’re looking for. It is honestly so scary when you suffer from anxiety.

When I worked retail as a merchandiser, hearing "Excuse me!" would make my heart drop and internally scream "NOOO!" A lot of customers were cordial, but boy howdy were there a lot of patience-testers! Retail is scary!

I worked 8 years in retail, this is a pure representation of the raw anxiety that it caused.

I really love the little details like one of the bottles saying "Get Out" instead of "Cool Kids" or one of the Ketchup bottles saying "You're wasting your life" instead of "Krazy Ketchup"... like all the subconscious questions and doubts than ran through my head when I was still working in retail *shudders*. Seriously, people working in retail are still humans, so treat them accordingly. Having a nice, friendly customer can make the difference between a good and a crappy day 😕

The genuine disbelief and offense on Mark’s face when being fired after a hard day at the grocery store is somehow immensely relatable for some reason even though I’ve never been fired. Lol

I love that he keyed into how you have to work harder than what's actually required (ie. planning the route and doing prep for stocking before your actual PAID shift) like it's not just a game strat it's just how it is ffs

I worked at a thrift shop about 6 years ago a few months after giving birth to my son. This mother and her two daughters came in in halloween to look for a “costume” for her eldest, my shift ended I believe 9 pm they came in at 8. Her daughter was gonna be a bunny, so ya know the whole white outfit jazz, they came up to me while I was stocking and moving things back into the right area asking if we had anything in white around her size. We had some white things, she was looking through the uh jeans for some skinny white ones. I pointed out a few, tried to help the best I could. And hour and 15 mins later, she goes we can’t find anything. And left….my store was a mess. I missed my bus home. Never recovered lol and then a few weeks after my son had been born an ex gf got a job working in a diner as a waitress I worked graveyard shift so 9 pm to 6 am. I came in for four days before they fired me. Bc in my exs words I didn’t learn quick enough. Anyways after the first few hours on my 1st night a guy told me my piercings were sexy and once he left I took them out, bunch of creepy old guys openly flirted with my ex, and two woman came in. The one asked if we had Russian food bc we had a Russian salad dressing. We said no, but we have other great food. She caused a scene and left. Her friend shrugged, walked out and left. Group of teens came in my last night. They had a “queen bee” sorta girl with them, got drinks, “ looked at the menu”, she didn’t see anything that she liked. So they just left. Needless to say I didn’t get a tip. But uh I’m glad I no longer work with people anymore lmao

This perfectly describes the retail worker's life with everyone buying the whole store out because of corona and being quarantined

I am so glad my mom taught me how to treat those who "serve" others(waiters,retail,etc) because at one point,she worked as a waitress(before I was born) and she always stacks the things and is so kind and patient with them,and I am as well. They are human,they need to be treated as such. Whether they're a rich supermodel,or a wait staff,that's a human being. And while I have no personal experience,from other comments it seems this game sums it up pretty well.

I love how when he first meets manager, he quickly works on how he does the voice to find the perfect thing for a laugh. How he voices people is the best.

They did an amazing job with this game making it stressful, just like retail especially during the holidays! When mark hit the break room and said thank god I needed a break, can’t tell you how many times I did that exact same thing when I was working retail!

I love how the woman who lost her baby has a Karen haircut and outfit

Why isn't there a customer where if you don't help them find the isle in time they just go "No it's okay sorry for bothering you" and then silently wander around the store reading the isle card things like I do

Running full sprint to employee only rooms as fast as possible to avoid customers. 10/10 realism

I'm surprised Mark didn't realize after he accidentally hit the customer with a box that you COULD throw it at them and not do their task.

Did anyone notice that one of the “Cool Kids” bottles reads, “Get Out”and other merchandise has similar things.

I love that some of the products have what I assume is the employee's inner dialogue written on them. It's really subtle; 'Get Out' on the cool kids drinks, 'you're a loser' on the cleaning bottles, 'you're wasting your life' on the ketchup bottles, and thats all I've noticed. Nice clever little details

T_T But in all honesty, I've had about 70/30 between customers who are rather nice and polite and patient vs those that get upset that I don't know where everything in the store is when I only work in one section. And then there are the customers who start climbing shelves when I say I'll be right back with a ladder.
