My great great grandfather was in the First World War. He had the distinguished service cross which is the 2nd highest award in the army right under the Medal of Honor.

Great video! I served 4 years in the Marines (2000-2004) with two combat deployments. I think it's great that people collect US militaria. Wonderful way to celebrate the sacrifices of service members and the history of our country. I've also seen some pretty amazing collections from the UK with some of the medals dating back to campaigns against Napoleon. Thanks for sharing:)

My medal collection revolves around Soviet medals from World War Two and German medals from World War One and Two. Also agree with your comment about “winning” a medal. My late father was an army veteran and that was always a major pet peeve of his too. But the fact that people have called you out is laughably stupid on their part. Anyone who spends 5 seconds on your channel can very plainly see you’re just preserving these historical items for future generations. In other words, you’re doing the lords work. Keep it up!

The Croix de Guerre is the medal you could not remember the name of. Good on you brother for taking the time and the sincere interest to be the caretaker to a great collection of medals. And the fact that you know the names of all these medals is impressive. I served 20 years in the military and most active duty troops do not have that knowledge. Semper Fi!

Wow, that is an impressive collection of US military medals! I just started to collect them too! My Grand Uncle served in WW1 and I just purchased the WW1 victory and occupation medals for his uniform. My father served during the Korean war and have found medals for his service too. The collection is now expanding! The distinguished flying cross and purple hearts are very hard to find.

I'm glad you clarify the difference between won and earned. I always cringe when I hear that phrase, that a soldier "won" a medal.. As you stated, rhey were received and earned. Nice DFC, AM, and PH. I've always loved the design of the PH.

to be honest i just like to buy old medals to wear cause I like them and...personally i believe the whole stolen valor craze and acts are against your first amendment...and whenever I wear a military uniform at school or where I live I never once claimed to be a soldier or have served....hell i sometimes look for medals and wear them cause i like them and only time it applies is whenever i make a uniform with tons of medals and pretend to be a dictator or general of a country I made up aka micronation and would never go around saying i served in any war or anything....I just don't like that wearing a medal for the sake of wearing a medal in some places is seen as stolen valor and especially the one is find at surplus and antique stores...as it seems the person just wanted to get rid of them...

It's good you placed all these disclaimers on your video, too many foolish ideas out there. Yes, some are well intentioned but most speak out of ignorance. Some people believe medals and dog tags should go back to the Veteran or their family. Unfortunately they don't understand that was the source of your purchase. Veterans, especially after Vietnam, were well known for throwing their dog tags away or trashing their uniforms. Most WW2 Veterans passed their items on to their families and as they aged they were sold because nobody in the family had an interest in them or just wanted the realized value by selling them off. The best items are those that came from Veterans for free, they just wanted his belongings going to a good caretaker.
