I found your channel originally while searching for a decent skin care routine and you changed my life! Your cocktail has been something I’ve adopted and it has made such a difference with my pores and definitely the firmness of my skin. I continue to use BHA all over and daily and it’s controlled my oiliness drastically. Thank you thank you thank you Gemma!!
Who else gasped when you said you didn't use Buffet anymore? Wonderful product - and my holy grail. I am currently using a lot of Beauty Pie skin care, Ceramide capsules, Vitamin V/E capsules, and Hyaluronic capsules, and am liking the results. I really like the fact that the product stays fresh and if we can ever travel again, they will save so much room! Your skin is really looking good, and I love the nails!
Thank you Gemma, I am new to skin care and makeup and I have learned so much from you, I am 57 and now started to use The Ordinary in my skincare which is fab. I only wish I had you when I was younger. 😀
I bought my first bottle of Bare Minerals Cleansing Oil when I watched your first skincare video and I’ve kept using it ever since. I just love it. It makes me happy too
I started following you and using the bare minerals oil in January and I just purchased my second bottle off of amazon. It lasted very long for me and you are correct, it smells divine!!!
Love, love the Ordinary. I added Azelaic acid to my regime & fairly quickly had results. Texture & redness noticeably improved. Also great results with their Rose hip seed oil. So thankful I can buy The Ordinary at Ulta in U.S. now😊
Tbh this work-from-home arrangement gives my skin the longest break from make up, it seems happier esp after 3-4weeks... It doesnt break out as much, not drying as much...
I love your videos! They are very informative and entertaining. I have learned a great deal from you and your beautiful mother. I use many of the same products you use. I am a nurse and a mature women who loves makeup and skin care. There is one thing that I feel I must comment on: please don't touch the dropper directly to your face or finger. You can contaminate the bottle contents with bacteria when you replace the dropper back into the bottle. When I use the salicylic acid I put one drop in the palm of my hand and use a Q-tip or my finger to apply the product to the spot on my face. When I use the NIOD FECC I put one drop in my palm and use that one drop to gently tap around both my eyes. I completely agreed the NIOD FECC is great. I have been using it for about 8 months and it really makes a difference. I have less wrinkles around my eyes and the creases in my eyelids have lessened and my eyelids have become less droopy. The Hylamide Sub Q eye is also good and less pricey, but the NIOD is better. Thank you so much for all your great videos.
You must do everything right, Gemma. You look younger every year! I also cannot use "the buffet" on my face (breakouts), but instead I use it for my decolletage and this works fine 😊. Love, hugs and kisses! Sabine 😘
The number one thing that ages you is the sun, so you are absolutely right about sunscreen. The "neck" thing is a sun hazard as well. If you look at the very top of your neck, it is soft and smooth. Always stays in shadow.
I have been using the NIOD eye concentrate for about 18 months. It’s amazing. And cruelty free too. It lasts forever, so is not that expensive in the long run. Love to your family xx
Nice simple routine Gemma. I love the NIOD FECC. Shortly after starting it on my upper lids, a little trickled down onto my practically non-existent eyelashes. The next day, my lashes on that eye had grown visibly. I've since started brushing it onto my lashes with clean mascara wand nightly. My upper and lower lashes are so long - lower ones ridiculously so! My advice is dip a wand in it and brush it over both sets of lashes. Great stuff. It's really given definition back to one of my eyelids - the other one is result of injury so will need surgery. Also love cerave moisturiser. I use vitamin c and antioxidant support before sunscreen. Keep niacinamide for evening. Thanks for sharing. Gemma, if your mum had an occasion coming up and wanted to give her a complexion a boost - what would you recommend she do? I'm turning 50 in 6 weeks and would love to find some way of giving things a boost at home. I've bought led mask and galvanic device .... I'm willing to try anything! Not that I'll be out celebrating it but there will be photos at home.
The sunprise is one of my favorite sunscreens as well. I have VERY reactive sensitive skin. So far it has given me zero issues. I was unable to use vitamin C until I found The Timeless company. I have been able to successfully add it to my routine. Thank you so much for this routine!!! Looking forward to the nighttime!
I'm glad I found your video on oil cleanser first and still use your single cleanse method. It has restored my moisture barrier and my skin has never been lovelier. Lucky I didn't get on the double cleanse bandwagon or I would still be having problems. Thank you💜
Generally I don't wash my face in the morning, but if I do, i would use a gentle, non perfumed cleanser. I only use an oil cleanser to remove make up and sunscreen in the evening. I love you bits Gemma, but I'm sorry to have to mention a "no no". Touching your skin with a dropper, apart from being unhygienic, is a major cause of bacteria entering the product. I've a few product suggestions too. I love these and, as our skin is relatively similar, I thought you would too. 😊 1. Hada Labo Cleansing Oil. Absolutely gorgeous oil that really cleans. It's light and nourishing. 2. The Ordinary EUK 134 0.1% . Zero Vit C but an amazing antioxidant. 2 drops for my entire face. 3. Jorgibé Hydrating Glow Serum. 3 drops of this antioxidant and you're in spa heaven. No Vit C. Just Devine. 4. IUNIK Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum. Fabulous anti aging serum. No Vit C. Wonderful! Have you tried The Ordinary MARINE HYALURONICS? It's like water! Honestly, you don't even have to wait for it to absorb. Love your headband, soooooooo cute, 💗💜💗💜💗💜💗
I understand what you mean about touching the dropper to my skin...I definitely wouldn't do this on a client but it is my personal skincare and I'm applying it to freshly cleaned skin. I also really like the Marine Hyaluronics, and I also have the Habo Labo Cleansing oil which is nice too. Not keen on The Ordinary EUK as you have to be careful what you mix it with to avoid irritation xxx
As someone with super dry skin I recommend spritzing with water before and after applying HA. It really makes a difference and helps stop HA from pulling water from the skin. I like the Inkey list niacinamide serum without the zinc as I find the zinc to be drying. I have mild rosacea and eczema prone dry mature skin, so severe dryness is an issue. I need more hydration and use toners/essences/mists to help accomplish that. I love a lot of korean beauty, but also the Western affordable brands like TO, Inkey List, Geed molecules etc. Be well and best wishes.
You’re Rosie the Riveter except in a pink scarf. How apropos. Loved the video and thee one I will be keeping until your next update. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’ve been responsible for the wonderful results I’ve had for more than a year now❤️. I see new recommendations so if you’ll excuse me, I must get on with new orders. I’m so grateful for all you’ve shared.
I love all your videos Gamma especially your skincare. Thanks for being so honest I always get loads of tips you should get commission I buy loads what you recommend.
How awesome, I've also started using The Ordinary Matrixyl +HA & The Inky List Hyaluronic acid. Really like them both. I completely wrecked my skin barrier a few weeks ago by trying to use Vitamin C. So after babying the skin back to health I introduced The Inky List Q10 & so far so good! This was recommended by Skincare by Hyram. Thanks for the video!
After never having a skin care routine I then implemented one using your suggestions from an earlier video. Glad to see you're still using most of those same products that I now use. Thank you for sharing, my skin really appreciates it.
Hi Gemma! I have sensitive skin and after a lot of trial and error over the years, I finally found out that fragrance in my skincare was what was causing my redness and breakouts. I swear by the Aveeno Ultra Calming line of skincare and the Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer for my morning routine. And I also love the Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel for the occasional blemish because it has salicylic acid in it. One drop of that stuff and my blemish is gone in a day (or two)! CeraVe is wonderful for my skin in the winter time! Thank you for your videos as always! Stay well and hugs!❤️😁
Only just been watching a few of your channels, And i am 43 soon! And wanted to start a good skin routine and bought most of Estee lauder skin care but after watching yours i have just ordered bare mineral face cleanser! So excited to try it!
Lovely routine - I need a spare of all my cleansers, serums and moisturisers 🥰 can’t be without any of mine 😃😃 I too love love love the bare minerales cleansing oil 💖💖 never a neck neglector thanks for the tip when you originally said it - done it ever since. Keep smiling xxx
Love this Gemma, thank you 😊 You have the credit for me starting an actual proper skincare routine in my mid-30s 😄 love The Ordinary products, Niacinamide and Buffet are used every day. My skin loves an oil cleanser, I use the DHC one ❤️ I like the look of the eye serum you used, may have to treat myself 💕
For the first time, I am without my niacinamide serum. My memory is failing me because I was convinced I had a backup. It has been over a week, and I can really tell the difference. Deiem now carries niacinamide in a larger bottle, so I ordered two and am waiting patiently. I just made the change from The Ordinary's Granactive Retinoid Emulsion to the Retinal .5% in Squalane. My skin really likes it and I will work up to the 1%. As always your skincare videos are some of my favorite, and I refer back to them quite often!❤ Your skin just looks beautiful!🌺🌷
I use the same retinal in squalane solution and am very happy with it so far. Just ordered the niacinamide to try. The Buffet I also use day and night, with great results. Love The Ordinary!
@@KarenLouiseDavies78 That's wonderful. Niacinamide made the most difference in my skin, I LOVE it. The Buffet unfortunately caused my skin to break out. I just feel so thankful that there are affordable products that work so well!
Patti 1962 looking forward to trying it, I do get some congestion, open pores and oily t zone so hoping it can help with that, and general skin health. Absolutely agree! Great when reordering so often that it’s a pocket friendly brand
Thank you for the tip on how you use the Niod eye serum. One drop is too much and I have often had to use the surplus on my neck! I also find vitamin c breaks me out, but I can use the new Garden of Wisdom C deep serum. It isn’t the usual L ascorbic acid vitamin C. It’s more stable and less irritating. I buy it from Victoria Health and it costs £18 for 30 ml. I like niacinamin too and use it in my night time routine. Always enjoy watching your videos and hearing your tips and recommendations.
I can't use Vitamin C either, I get small white heads and breakouts so now I just use some on my hands and neck that I have left over. Glad to hear someone else has same issue. I am going to try the Matrixyl.
I do think the NIOD works. I just need to use it more consistently. Anything with my eyes, if I don't see an overnight miracle (impossible, I know) I have trouble sticking to it. But it really does last forever.
Love your routine 🥰 I have been having pilling problems recently. I think you are right about the amount of product, as I do tend to use a lot of serum! I was thinking more is best but I think I need to reduce the amount of drops I put on 😊 xx
I would really love to see a basic (and affordable!) morning/evening cleansing method - I’m guilty of using ‘face wipes’ for years, but I know they are bad for the environment - (and my skin?) I use a micellar cleanser for eye makeup and then a cream cleanser at night, but my skin feels ‘ greasy afterwards - but when I use a face wipe afterwards my face stings. But I cant use soap or water - it’s far too drying for my 63 year old skin, and I’m prone to allergies around my eyes so I’m really careful what I use. - I’m scared of acid/ scrubs/ chemicals! I’ve started using serum from No7 which my skin likes - an up to date budget video needed for people like me! Thanks so much for your easy to follow hints and tips!
I’m really surprised that you don’t like natural oils Gemma. I’ve used Decleor for years which is plant oil based and my skin is pretty good, if i do say so myself! I have a bigger issue with mineral oils in products which don’t get into your skin and sit on the top. I also think it’s worth spending some money on good quality cleaner because your moisturisers can’t do their job if you haven’t got properly cleaned (and unstripped or unbalanced) skin. Loving the hair band today 😊😘
I haven't got a problem with natural plant oils....but I do have an issue with essential oils and flower/citrus oils which are in products just to give them fragrance and can be very irritating. You can get a fantastic cleanser very affordably. No need to spend a lot unless you want to xxx
I’ve been told You should ALWAYS apply a cream over the top of a hyaluronic acid as it will draw moisture from the deep layers of your skin outwards and make your skin drier unless you lock it in with a moisture. So the moisturiser step in the routine is VERY IMPORTANT! sorry just thought I’d mention that :)
Olivia Allan hi, thats not always the case. Hyaluronic acid gets moisture from the surrounding air regardless of whether you lock it in with a moisturiser. This is true unless you live in a very dry climate. If this is the case I wouldn’t recommend using hyaluronic acid at all. Xxx
I live in the American Southwest and must use moisturizer, at least twice a day. I also moisturize and sunscreen the back of my neck. I have seen women whose faces look pretty good but the back of their necks are like lizard skin. I have started using the Sunprise sun screen and.love it, thank you for the recommendation.
I enjoyed the routine you use ...it's nice and simple and not a ton of products. Can you tell me with the the sunscreens you use when you dabbed a wee bit around the eye area do find that they irritate or sting the eyes at all ?
If you get a second could you look up the L'oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid serum and see if you think it's a good product? I'm 33 years old and already have deep forehead wrinkles and fine lines around my eyes and the lines in between my brows and am trying to do more skincare to help with the early aging signs because I like getting told I look half my age and want to keep it that way. Thank you!
Hi Amanda, Hyaluronic Acid will help with hydration and make the skin plumper, but it won't fight the signs of aging. For that you need strong active ingredients xxx
Thanks for the updated routine Gemma! I adopted most of your routine a good while back. I use Buffet, Niacinamide, and Matrixyl before my moisturizer (CeraVe). I ordered the Sunprise and love love love it! The only difference is the eye cream and cleanser. I may need to try the eye serum you use, I do like the Drunk Elephant one though. I get a couple of subscription boxes and have loads of cleansers. When one empties, I just grab a different one. I don't have sensitive skin so none have irritated me but I also haven't found one that I absolutely must have either. Thank you for always sharing your honest thoughts and opinions.... Peace, love, and happiness!!!!
Thanks Gemma! Great video. I have been looking for a new moisturiser to complement my new ordinary products. If you’ve used the le Roche posay moisturisers let me know as I’m undecided between the cerave and that
I watched your morning and night backwards!! I tried The Ordinary, I also lost track of time, many times and left the Dracula Blood Peel Lotion on for 30 minutes 😯...... Nothing happened..... I used loads of different ordinary products.... I must have elephant 🐘 dry skin!! I'm now trying Revolution, I can feel it working and see the benefits, especially the eye serum, fingers crossed 🤞 💞 😊. Xx 🇬🇧
Nice video😍 I highly recommend watching Hyram here on RU-vid to learn more about skincare! A few things to consider: Oil cleanser in the morning? A cleansing oil is meant to remove makeup or sunscreen as a first cleanse. You need to follow up with another cleanser, (DOUBLE CLEANSE), after using an oil or not all dirt is removed since the oil is still left and your pores can be clogged when the oil is not washed off properly and is not good if it has essential oils in it as you mentioned. In the morning I believe it is better not to use an oil but another type of (gentle) cleanser. Or maybe not use a cleanser in the morning if your skin is too dry. Another thing maybe to think about is to never touch or get in contact with the dropper from serums etc. The risk of bacterial growth (even if it was an acid) is not worth it😉 Even if it is not a big thing with salasylic acid, better to get it on some applicator for a spot treatment in my opinion. Many influencers do this to make application of skincare more dramatic but it is not that good, not saying you do. This is not in any way meant as harsh criticism but just to point out things that may help your skincare routine to be even better. You recommend many good products and ingredients like the Cerave moisturiser, salicylic acid and niacinamide😃 Keep up the great content❤️
Hi Ida, I'm not sure if you're new to my channel, but I'm a qualified aesthetician and have been for over 20 years now. Although I agree that using an oil cleanser can sometimes be followed up with a gel cleanser, this is not a necessary step. It's a complete myth. I do like Hyram's channel, I think he's a lovely person, and very entertaining, but I don't agree with everything he says. As far as the dropper touching my skin is concerned, these are my own products and I'm applying them on freshly clean skin. I wouldn't use this method on a client but in my personal skincare I do this all the time xxx
Pampered Wolf I am not new, have been following you since you only had a few thousand but I did not know that anyway😊 I don’t agree with Hyram on everything either but most, I have seen a lot of improvement in my skin since I started to follow his advice and I think he knows more about some parts in skincare than some aestheticians I follow here on RU-vid. It is great if it works for you but using an oil only for cleansing does not work for my skin (very dry but still get breakouts if I do this) and I know that is the case for many. How do you make sure to remove all of this product? It does not work to remove everything with only water and as you mentioned it has essential oils which my skin would freak out with if I left it on my skin😂 I also see why you are fine with the dropper touching your skin and as I said I don’t think it is a big deal like you do but for me personally I just can’t handle it touching anything at all to risk anything😃
I've found Paula's Choice spfs do not bother my eyes. I use several different ones depending on the weather. I always put them on my eyelids. I get no irritation and I have very sensitive eyes.
Has anybody had success in the US finding the CeraVe dry to very dry formula? The normal to dry is found in abundance but just does not deliver enough hydration for me. Is it even sold here? Gemma, your skin is lovely. You turned me on to your Ordinary products a long time ago and I really like them. Just hope one day my skin will catch up with yours! Great video....👍👍
Hi Gemma, hope you and family are well. I just ordered the buffet from Ordinary and this is my first time using this. Should I also use other ones too with it?
Kim Mailloux I use it with vitamin c in the morning and retinal in the evening, seems like a good combo for my dry skin. Yet to find a product I don’t like from The Ordinary :)
You can use the Buffet with niacinamide, vit C and hyaluronic acid. The Buffet is a blend of peptides, so using other skin loving products is a great idea. xx
Hi I love your videos you have beautiful skin my question is I have dry congested skin I cannot find a sunscreen that does not dry my face out I need help I have tried a lot of them
Hi Gemma, I’ve been using buffet and the vit C serum from the ordinary for three months, but I’ve now come out with a reaction to the ascorbil vit c serum- my skin is burning all day with it. What would you recommend I use instead? My skin was feeling much better until the reaction! I’ve had to bin it. Thanks!
I made such a loud, shocked noise when you said you weren’t using Buffet anymore that my cat ran from the room even faster than he does when we’re opening a can of tuna. 😂 I owe you a huge thanks for making skincare a lot less daunting - I have rosacea anyway, but I’m also on a large but necessary dose of blood thinner, so I have to deal with dryness and sensitivity in addition to an obscene amount of redness, so knowing what to look for and what to avoid has been so helpful. I live by Buffet and Matrixyl and got the Soon Jung barrier and cica creams on your recommendation, and the hydration is unbelievable. Still dealing with redness flares, especially when my medications play havoc just because, but a redness calming mask and Paula’s Choice toner added in seem to help a little bit. As always, many thanks and much love. ❤️
wieldwords ask your doctor about oracea or targadox . These are both oral medications indicated for rosacea and are the thing that’s helped me the most with rosacea.
I’ve followed you for a long time but I am confused about eye serums.... you have previously said that they are a waste of money as face creams are identical (other than the fragrance) Can you clarify what your current thoughts are please? Thank-you 🙏🏽
Eye serums are slightly different to an eye cream as they are absorbed into the deeper layers of skin and therefore can be socially formulated. A cream doesn't make it very far at all so eye creams are a waste of money. I personally love the NIOD eye serum and find that you do get quite a bit for your money which in contrast to an eye cream vs face cream isn't the case xxx
Do you have to pat products on instead of massaging it in? Honestly my anti-aging skincare is simple. Cerave cleanser, niacinamide serum, tretinoin, moisturizer (2 kinds, one is heavier for nights or drier skin days and the other is lighter) and sunscreen. I stick to research-based actives.
I pat it on first and then massage it in without too much pressure. Some people try and get their skincare on their faces whilst trying not to touch their skin at all which makes no sense to me. xxx
Hi please can you do an episode on decolletage and neck what to use for stopping creases and lines Im in my late 30's and notice this area needs more attention now. Does the same rule apply as the face? use serum, use cream etc? or not? many thanks Pampered wolf x
Gemma Very good video. Can I just ask how did you work out it was Buffet that was irritating your skin, as opposed to any of the other products you are using?
Hi Gemma. You and your mom are my favorite! I know your mom likes the Bobbie Brown eye cream and seeing as though I’m closer to her age, do you recommend the Niod or the Bobbie Brown eye cream for me?
It has nothing to do with age Deborah, it's about skin quality. A serum will get deeper into the skin and do the most good. The moisturiser is the topper. xxx
Might be of help to you beautiful lady. I have very heavy hooded lids. I put some honey onto my eyelids for 20 minutes and now I can actually see more of my mobile lid. How powerful is that from one use? It’s the best! Never thought you’d get rid of buffet lols xxx
Thank you for an informative video. I wonder why you don’t use spf on your eyelids - I use a mineral spf on the eyes (because the chemical spf stings my eyes) and a chemical spf on the rest of face and neck, because the chemical spf are less expensive than the mineral spf.
I love you're videos so much. I will share it to all of my friends with skin care issues again. The pilling effect is worst for me if I have a product with too much gum in it. So I try to avoid products with xanthan gum. What's your experience with gums in products?
I've been using Good Molecules for my.skincare. I find it easier to use because they just have the basics. Thanks for.this video, I will help me.pads down the products I use. What skincare product to you recommend for the arms and legs?
Hi i bought the anthelios SPF50 after watching your favourite spf video. I have a oily t zone so I put it on top of my serums instead of a moisturiser and it sinks in really well. I really like it so thank you. Also have been recommending it to the younger girls I work with who think I'm mad for wearing spf every day but I will get though to them eventually lol 😃
I am a little torn on the skincare..I use a DIY vitamin C serum (I mix my own and re-make it every week), niacinamide, lactic acid/salisylic acid, rose hip oil, tretinoin 0.05%, moisturizer the AHA 30%, BHA 2% mask peel once a week and sunscreen of course. I use these because there are scientific proof and lots of studies that support these, but I don't see any different. However, I am only 25. But for the others you mentioned, especially the NIOD eye cream and the buffet, which are much more expensive, are they worth it? What difference do you (or others in here :) ) see from these?
Hi Karine, at 25 you don't need to start using tretinoin unless it's for acne or you already have fine lines and wrinkles. I do think the NIOD is worth it. I have definitely noticed firmer, smoother, less wrinkled skin since using it. xxx
Hi Gemma, I hope you & your family are safe & healthy during this world wide quarantine. Thank you for this video. It really helps not to feel so alone. I have a question...Everyone talks about hyuralnic acid, Neutrogena is the most mentioned...but I live in Texas. The whether can very here from Very Hot to Very Humid. So my question is if I live in Texas, should I be using hyuralonic acid??? I'm Totally confused. Btw, I have combination skin and I am 44yo
If you have dry sensitive skin, be careful using the eye serum. I purchased it after watching this and it’s caused my eyelids to crack and peel skin. Very painful!
This is such a terrible shame. It's possible you have had an allergic reaction. In which case I would definitely contact Deciem Customer Services and let them know your experience. I also have dry sensitive skin and haven't had this reaction, but each individual reacts to ingredients in a different way. It may also be reacting with other skincare that you might be using xxx
Hi Gemma. I started using the ordinary after your earlier skin video video - buffet, niacinamide, LA, granactive retinoid , cerave etc. Would you ever use matrixyl and buffet together or is that not necessary? Also what does a reaction to vit C look like? I saw someone below mentioned small white bumps...is that normal? I’ve had a few recently but not sure if it is vit c (introduced ascorbyl glucoside solution 12%) but hadn’t attributed it to that until now. Now it’s got me wondering...
Hi, You don't need to mix matrixes and buffet but it won't hurt if you do. Everyone's reaction will be slightly different. I get breakouts and blackheads and my skin becomes rough with vitamin C xxx
Does the LaRoche Posay leave a white cast on your face? I have "invisible" SPF from Aveeno and Neutrogena that make me look like Casper. A lot of days I don't wear Foundation. Have you ever used Australian Gold tinted SPF? I was going to give that a whirl, I think it's cheaper than LaRoche Posay. And your skin looks gorgeous by the way!
The LRP is a chemical SPF. Generally only Mineral SPFs leave a white cast. The Australian Gold is a mineral SPF. It's nice. Very silicone based so great as a base for makeup, but it can be quite drying over time xxx
