My Most Anticipated Upcoming Metroidvania! - Vernal Edge [Demo]

I'm normally not much of a Metroidvania person, but this looks awesome! It's like Celeste with swords and sorcery!

Yeah this game looks incredible. Has the potential to be a masterpiece.

Seems like combination of Shantae and Hollow Knight with gorgeous pixel art and airships!? Count me in!

Looks great and from an outside perspective I see only a few issues with it. To start off I feel like it gives you a little too much at once in the beginning, or atleast puts a lot on the player that would be incredibly frustrating to get used to if you don't play a lot of metroidvanias, the combat system looks great though! but also seems like it was more built for one on ones and bossfights, than fighting more than one enemy at once, a great example was the fish minigame actually. The music is wonderful and reminds of of some touhou games OSTs, they fit perfectly with the art style and theme of the game. The boost rings and ropes also looked fluid and responsive, only issue with the maps, which I imagine they'll have no issues fixing, is that a lot of the area looks the same as a lot of the other parts of the areas, so I imagine it'll be very easy for players to get lost if they aren't experienced with the area. This game has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see how it turns out!

You missed the poles in the first island you visited. I played that one and it was clearly a lot more combat focussed.

this looks great, but one thing has me worried here - with all the attack combo spamming and enemies being damage sponges, doesn't it have a bit of beat'em up feel to it? Personally, I heavily dislike metroidvanias that have this style of combat, even if they are otherwise great (like Guacameele or Dust)

huh? so this has a similar combat system to a tales of game, sweet.

The enemies have too much health, IMO. Just because there aren't a ton of them doesn't mean the few there are have to be total bullet sponges.

The reward for taking time to destroy that initial training dummy is *_NOT_* worth it. All I'll say is: *_only_* do it if you are a *_completionist_*

How does this game compare to the Messenger, in your opinion?

You should play the game high on life

Don't know if anyone agrees with me, but those lifebars above enemies are huge, and annoying. Wish there was an option in the settings to remove them. Other games give this option.

Yeah I'm done wishlisting metroidvanias on steam, Heart Forth Alicia looks dead, waiting for The Last Faith, I've got plenty more I need to cull for being extremely likely to never actually release.

All these modern metroidvanias are too talky/wordy for my taste.

Tbh the game seems cool except the main character themselves. They seem like a brat.
