I have an entire Playlist on Practice Tips, however, it did occur to me that there are some techniques that I tend to use more often than anything else. So, this video covers those particular techniques using examples of where and how I used them in music I have learned recently.
I have purposefully avoided discussing either Slow Practice and Hands Separate practice as these topics are more than adequately covered everywhere. The techniques covered in this video are those which actually help me make breakthroughs in my practice with things that I find difficult to play.
There are excerpts from the following videos. You might find it interesting to watch the remainder of the tutorials for additional context

Well Tommy , what always impresses me about your videos is their thoroughness and preparation. I would describe your approach to practice as very analytical. In contrast I would describe mine as the slowly beat it into submission method. By that I mean, I am constantly working on an ever expanding variety of pieces which I rotate through going through twenty or so different pieces a day. I always play the pieces slowly to start aiming for 100% note accuracy. Then I try and get the rhythm correct often aided by listening to an "expert" play the piece. Gradually over a long period each piece I find slowly get better and better. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've played some hundreds of times. Gradually over time what initially may have seemed impossible became probable and then doable. A lot has to do with something that goes on behind the scenes in what I'd call brain remapping and even finger stretching. Things just start to become easier. It's all very fascinating. Thanks for your videos. Your videos on self recording are exceptional.

Thanks for taking the time to share your story. I try to 'think ten times, play once' as Liszt once apparently said. However, behind the scenes as I've often said, I can find myself not following my own advice! I think I probably sit somewhere between the two. As I find myself starting to 'beat something into submission', (which I'll admit happens more often than I'd like to see) I try to refocus myself towards actually trying to work out what I"m doing wrong. I'm pleased you enjoy the videos on self recording. I love making them as I've learned so much since starting to do it myself and, hopefully, they will save others many hours of watching videos where there's perhaps 5 minutes useful information for we pianists :-)
