Just went out for a motorcycle maintenance ride on the Can Am Ryker. Didn’t really have a topic for the day but riding weather is far and few between. I was just thinking how did i get to where i am. I pictured this more or less as a starting point i tell my story and you buys put your story down in the comments.

Lol. Yadda, yadda, yadda.. gotta be my favorite part of the video. I started riding bulltaco's at age 9. My father rode hardtails with the Red and White. Thanks for the vid and story.

I think the yada yada is a NY thing. It’s nice you hot started so young. No one in my family rides except me and my brother and we only got into it late in life.

In my 50’s and never road 2 wheels except maybe a mini bike when I was younger. But after my divorce I wanted to ride but I didn’t trust myself on 2 wheels. That’s when I saw the Ryker. I had the support of my current wife - I took my 3 wheel motorcycle course, passed and bought a used Ryker rally. I was scared crazy the first time riding it. I slowly developed confidence - turned it into a 2-up cruiser/tourer and my wife and I road often. She loves being a passenger and I loved riding it. Did that for 4 years put 16,000 miles on it and traded it in for an F3 limited which is what I ride now. I dint enjoy riding ti work though - I find the hassle of riding gear over my work clothes more trouble and I don’t like the pressure of having to get somewhere on time on the bike - it kinda takes away the relaxation. Anyway I absolutely love the sense of being a part of the environment when riding and for me can am has made that possible where I would not have done that otherwise. I have not looked back since being my first can am

Great story and glad you got into it. I understand the gear over cloths problem. Luckily for me i had to change at work so it was not an issue. Any new type of vehicle can be a little intimidating at first but like you said confidence comes with time.

I started riding two wheels and back in the 1980s in New Zealand things were pretty laid back so owned and rode some road bikes with no license. I spent most of my latter years in various modified cars but now own a 2023 Ryker 900 sport at age 57 and absolutely love it, ride it all the time round the hills in area and will always ride it as much as possible 😊

Thanks for sharing. I have seen some rides from around your way and the rides look very interesting. Glad to hear you’re liking your Ryker and yep they are fun. It looks like many of us got restarted in second half of life.

Great Video! Started on 3 with a Honda Big Red in the wonderful no helmet 80's then may years of 2 wheels and now back to 3 with my Spyder RT. Can't wait for my cold weather ride soon.

And you lived through the 80’s as well on the old atv’s. I recall so many horrible accidents back then before the quads came out. I just rode to philly from Staten island and back today. 180 miles and it did get a little chilly on ride back. Im sure I’ll get to see your ride once you get that RT buttoned back together. I have to say it was fun to watch but I’m sure you would rather not have had to do it.

@@SIRyker I rolled that 3 wheeler over more times than I could count and almost cut my leg off on some rebar. That kind of stuff made our generation tough as nails. I can’t really say I would have rather not done it. The engine swap was a huge confidence boost for me. I learned a ton and hopefully some other people did too. I will now have the experience of taking my first Spyder ride on something I worked incredibly hard to fix and I think it will be quite rewarding. Hopefully today is the day!

@Y-DER I think you will find that working on can ams is harder than riding them lol. Yes the several near death experiences made us what we are. Im glad you found the rebuild gratifying, like most things that work out it feels rewarding no sense in thinking about how it could have gone.

Mine started out on two wheels, off roading in the early 80's. I did alot of trials riding and had the following bikes, Honda C90, Garelli 50, Suzuki TS 100, Yamaha TY250 and a BSA Bantam 175. In 1981, I had an accident on BSA Bantam testing a new clutch, I lost balance resulting in the swing arm braking my ankle. It was very painful and I still have trouble today 43 years later! I don't own a Can Am but I am doing a lot of You tubing to find out more about them, however, after my experience I am quite scarred of bikes and especially riding out on the roads in case I had another accident!

Your 80’s sounds like a common thread from what I’m reading. I threw out my back shoveling snow in the 80’s and it still hurts today so i can sympathize. Yea that once bitten twice shy is something to get over. It doesn’t matter what you get on other than a car the risk is always there to get over. That being said a can am will make you feel much more secure over two wheels for sure but there is always the risk. I wish you the best of luck with whatever choice you go with.

@@SIRyker Thanks SI, it's my own fears that I need to overcome. But I have family and extended family also to consider. I will keep watching for now and keep you posted if I take the plunge...Cheers bud 👍

Did you ever go motorcycle camping or I thought about buying a small trailer to pull behind your motorcycle?😊
@SIRyker
@SIRyker 6 месяцев назад
Never did motocamping . Not against it just don’t think it’s my thing. The trailer would make it so much easier i would think. You can store so much stuff in that thing.
