I didn't know John Hurt under that incredible makeup for the Elephant Man. Astonishingly performance.

The greatest Actor of his generation. Saw him in Krapps Last Tape 4 years ago. Simply the best.

Fell in love with him in 1976, still in love with him now.

Astounding talent. One of a kind.

He is my favourite actor of all time. Civil Servant changed my 16 year old life forever and I have followed his career since. I had 2 opportunities in the streets of London to go up and meet him but I was SO scared as I was in awe of this man and didn't want my spell broken. I now know he would have been gracious and not at all starry. I regret it to this day. Brilliant mesmerising actor that I miss but his body of work is out there for all to admire and learn from.

Still my favorite. Goodbye, friend John. Until we meet in heaven.

He will always be my Winston Smith.

I could listen to his voice all day.

Never forget him as Caligula in PBS miniseries I, Claudius. Even his cameo recent years as Dr Who (the War Doctor)...
