that’s pretty typical for the eldest children of filipino families honestly. he’s still got an opportunity to get a good education, and then get a well-paying job. since he’s a lot older than the rest he’ll be working first and they’ll rely on him for income. it’s just how it is sadly

Now that he's already a licensed nurse, can't even stand on his own without my grandma's support. I know some people who were spoiled by their grandparents that's why there still depending on them.

@Tristan Han he moved to Korea learning and trying to adapt to a whole new language to try and communicate with his family who he’s been separated with for so long leaving everything he loved behind. yep i think he’s sacrificed a lot🤝

@Tristan Han to move in a different country is no joke. not to mention,live with people you barely know. He didn't even grew up with his own mom. It's hard to describe/measure what he sacrificed, something like that is never quantifiable.

Because they're in Korea. Earl John has every reason to learn Korean even without trying to get closer to his siblings. His future in Korea depends on it. As for the younger siblings - yes it would be nice for them to try to learn Tagalog but I sense some kind of emotional struggle. They probably never visited Philippines, or met their grandmother, uncle and brother in person until one day, they just showed up to live with the family in Korea. And all of a sudden the siblings have to accommodate these strangers (I know it sounds harsh but that's who they are for all intents and purposes) who speak in a language they can't understand, nag (I'm talking about the grandmother, not Earl John) and seem to be dependent on them for everything. There's probably a sense of shame too of the new family members' perceived "inadequacies". Similar to what some immigrant children in the West secretly feel when confronting their first-generation parents' lack of knowledge of English and of the Western system. I'm not excusing their behaviour . Three years is a long time and more secure and happy children will certainly have overcome these difficulties and embraced the new family members. But I think there's a lot going on with these siblings that we don't know about. That said, I'm sure Earl John's sincerity will win them over in the long run and they will learn to appreciate his presence in their lives.

Giselle Park i agree. I was raised in Canada and my parents thought me learning english was more of a priority than Bisaya and it hurts me now as an adult cause when I try they give up on me 😭 now they wish they taught me but idk. Its never too late to learn.

A person can still teach their children their culture and language. I'm not living in a major city in Korea and I also work, but that isn't an excuse for me not to teach my son about the Philippines and my culture.

I completely agree. They should atleast know their roots and the mom should atleast teach them some filipino words as they grow up. Hope they go to Philippines to see their mothers home. I want to see more of him lol

I feel really bad for Earl he doing all the work, trying to get closer to his family and on top of that he was away from his mom for a very long time yet he is still such a respectful and caring son. I will raise my future children like earl ☺️

A Well same here I just moved to Canada. its only 1 month and I’m still trying to get used to it. I get awkward with my cousins because they speak english and they were born here. But thankfully, me and my family are all here to help cope up with these new things.

right??During puberty most teenagers have a loooot of self esteem so at least be embarrass that someone who have started to live in the house recently (working hard to adapt and respectful) is the one whos trying hard to be helpful be sincere and nice. youd be lucky to have someone like that in your life. it makes your life brighter and cheerful and a lot more positive considering how shitty the world is. treasure it guys!

I dont want to generalize but I've noticed the young generation now a days is totally different. I also have a young siblings ( 20 and 21) and they hate me everytime I visited my family , I wake them up at 4 am and help out in the farm and house chores and let my parents lay down for more time in bed. Sometimes youngsters need to be taught hard for them to see...As always said to my younge siblings." No matter how intellectual the person is; he/she will not succeed if he cant even bothered to lift his finger"

I was thinking the same thing. When they were in the chilli field the kids were not helping at all. Earl John goes to school as well and helps on the weekends, why couldn't they?

@Jacky Phantom typically yes. There are people who have more 'native' names like Lualhati or Buhawi but its quite rare. We were colonized by the Spanish and forced to have Christian names

I speak bisaya. I consider it a language....whats to distinguish between dialect & language in the Philippines anyway? I'm always hesitant to use the word dialect....if Tagalog-only speakers cannot understand bisaya, how can we still consider it a dialect?? :)@@kaydy7735 Also you might want to consider the fact that because Cebuanos have our own culture and ways of doing/understanding things that is so engrained with and developed with bisaya that is really too different from other places in the country...thats why I dont wanna call bisaya a dialect...Sure its spoken in other regions and there are variations but bisaya is a language TO ME. "To me" anyways haha okay I'll just stop there..Dont get me started on this conversation lol I dont believe in that distinction even though we Filipinos always use "dialect". is Bisaya a dialect within the Tagalog language? No. Can all tagalog speakers understand bisaya? No. Then theyre separate languages in "my" opinion.

Respecting elders is just streotype belief. Many elders in urban area are just being neglected by their families some are just being sent at home for the agents

@@kaydy7735 Actually we have 8 languages in the Philippines, 80 main dialects and 100+ smaller dialects. Bisaya is one of the 8 languages while Cebuano is the most dominant Bisayan dialect :)

So many misinformed filipinos, Bisaya is an austronesian based language. 120+ plus languages in the Phils, a dialect is a variation of a language like, Batangas Tagalog and Laguna Tagalog.
