Every time I think I am ready to put this darn 4 speed back together, I realize I am missing "just one more part". Ugh! Well I've almost had it with this project...this transmission is getting done even if it means I have to travel to the moon for the parts I need! And, next time, I am just ordering a rebuild kit.
And, anyone who want's to send me pictures of their bikes, you can email me at:
redrider.canada.bc@gmail.com
PLEASE SEND LARGE CLEAR PHOTOS!
1080p x 1080p is the MINIMUM we can work with, so please do your best at making sure your photos are large and not blurry 🙂 And send more than one if you can as well!
Only motorcycle related emails please - sorry, but I just don't have the time to engage in personal conversations.
Thank you for your understanding.
If you DON'T want your bike highlighted in a future video showing viewers bikes then make sure to mention it in your email. Other than that, expect to see your bike in one of my videos!
If you would like my PO BOX address you can find it in the description to my channel by following this link:

The 4 speed on the face of it looks like it is very simple to work on but unless you are familiar with them they can be tricky. I did mine some years ago with the help of the the great guys on the sadly now defunct Shovelhead site ran by Jack . There was an engineer guy on the site that did a main shaft oil seal that actually worked . Great Site I bet ' Dad ' remembers it ?
@RedRiderCanadaBC
@RedRiderCanadaBC 4 месяца назад
Yes, they are fairly simple in their operation, bit they definitely have their nuances that make them a little tricky if you’re unfamiliar with them.

Every time I have had a problem, I have observed a guardian angel showing me the way. Three times I had an obstacle occurred when rebuilding carbs. In each case , once pausing, I realized the obstacle enabled me to observe or be aware of something that could be even disastrous. After rebuilding and testing my carbs which connect to the heads via rubber collars, I realized that they were not OEM. In the new configuration, those collars have a lot more stress which would be no problem for the OEM Collars. As fate would have it, I had gotten the OEMs foe Babe, but id not use them a month ago. After a 6 mile test ride the collars had ripped. ( how they got there originally is why I don't use Bike Shops. ) . When trying the get the OEM onto Intake Port 3, it resisted. I took it off and looked, and there I saw a piece of rubber debris from the imitation collar sitting right in the opening, and ready to go hang up my valves - I thanked the guardian angel again for the heads up. BTW: To get lost is the only way to find yourself -

@@tommylitchfield3450 if your not capable of fixing your bike that's your issue not mine. I just plug it in and it tells me what's wrong and I can ride it till the tyres need changing and back with out having to touch a thing I can jump on it any time do the miles step off and still nothing to do but clean it. Dont see the old bikes being so maintenance free it's called progression. Sure old bikes can be fun like an old car but they are a lot of work and if they break down on the side of the road you stand about as much chance as a new one trying to fix it on the side of the road so dont hand me that crap I'm not buying it. When I need to get some where I want the easiest option with the least hassle if I'm playing close to home I will pull out one of my older bikes. Love my 97 badboy but you sit on that for a couple of hours I'm having trouble walking I'm not sure how I put 420,000 ks on it. And in 20 years time people will be saying the same thing about the old m8 stuff. I remember when evos came out people said the same thing but a stock evo was faster and more reliable that a worked shovel it's just how it is. If you cant afford new then dont knock it.

I miss Montana! I was fortunate to have a machinist just down off the mountain. I could get shafts turned down from stock and because of his foundry time at a local plant he could cast, then machine parts for me and the more serious wrenches working on older bikes. Never could get him to ride but he always wanted us to ride the bikes up to see him once completed. This world needs more skilled machinists that don't want you to pay their mortgage. Good luck with the parts Angel. Great stop even if you couldn't go inside. I'm sure now you will get there on a day when they are open. With Love and Respect, you are in my prayers Hoka Hey

According to the type of Chinese, European and Japanese engines) and I decided to stop with it, because that day I lost at least half a liter of blood, 😅 which made me spend another day cleaning the garage. Sadly, while I'm a machinist, I don't have my own machines. I don't intend to, either - so I guess it's not that sad! I'd rather ride to see the rest of this enormous continent than spend a single minute more than I have to in front of another lathe. If you made it to MN, I'd buy ya dinner. Bring your dad, because my creeper days are done. I legit thought this transmission was done already. Perhaps sacrifice a chicken or something...?

I'm not a machinist but I can use a mill and a lathe and LOVE using them, they are the handiest machines on the planet... It leaks like a seive. So I have riden about 10,000 miles in the time his stupid shovel has been down. They keep tearing it down and trying to fix the leak with no success. I will take a 1200 EVO that is good for 100K without any major rebuilds. I would never own a shovel. I ride about 15k per year so I would be needing an upper end every two years.
