My new 2015 Yamaha FZ / MT 09 with akrapovic exhaust (First ride thoughts-review)

Yeah I'm now thrilled owner of a Yamaha MT09 and what a bike. In this video i basically just going to go over my first impressions of the bike. I do get a bit carried away in some parts but that's just me so you'll have to live with it :P. In the next few weeks i will keep posting reviews for different biking environments I'm putting the bike through such as commuting and going for a bit of fun on the twisties. Doing this I'm hoping to do a bit more of an in depth overall review of the bike. I will conclude the series in a final all round review video which I'm hoping to get finished by the end of September. But for the time being i hope you enjoy this video :)

Great video, great review and reminds me just how I feel about my own MT. I often don't get to ride mine for 2-3 weeks and then when I do get out I remember why I love it, how much I love it and just why I bought it after a couple of hour test ride. It's an amazing bike at an irresistable price. You do need a screen though in my opinion, not only for the small amount of wind deflection but for the looks too.

Congratz man! That is one hell of a bike you are sure to have some good times on it. Its one of my favourite bikes as well just don't have the funds at the moment to get one I am jealous of you my friend :)!

+Riding PhilCollins Pleased i could be of some help, i can't speak any higher of this bike. I have also had a go of an R1 (2005 model) and i would say up to 70 this keeps up with it maybe even slightly beats it :).

I think you made the right choice with the mt-09. The 07 is a bit under powered for a street fighter torque bike, and in my opinion the mt-10 is a bit confused, a super bike that doesn't perform as well as the R1. Yes it will be the MT-09 that will be sort after in a few years time with it's charismatic triple engine.

nice vid bud, recognised a lot of the roads as used to live in bedlington...you said it's got a full akro system but not remapped..to me that means its decatted too so I'd recommend a remap if so?

+chr11sf This system is designed as a total bolt on system so you don't have to adjust anything, Now i have adjusted the CO levels on the bike which helps the throttle but the bikes runs great. Later i might get a remap and see how that improves the bike.

+Charlie M Pleased you enjoyed it. As for dislikes i can't say i have got any big ones. The horn could do with being moved away from the indicator button but you get used to it :) I have put a small screen on the bike which helps no end with the wind at high speed. Just a great bike :)

+Mo_tard It's a bit of a bodge if i'm honest. I use a Olympus Dictaphone with a separate mic. The mic it mounted under the little guard which sits being the visor. I find it keeps the mic out of the wind and also the guard seems to direct my voice into the mic. Like i say it was just what i had laying around but it seems to have worked quiet well.

Blue forks look epic! What else did you consider before you bought the MT09? I considered this bike before buying my Street Triple R.

+TripleTorque That's a hard one, like i say i feel in love with these bikes on honeymoon when i saw one. But i wanted someone which looked different and was a bit of a animal when it wanted to be which this is :P. I'm pleased the MT10 wasn't out because i would have gone for one of them but at the moment im happy with my 09 :)

I personally found the riding position way too upright on the MT09. The STR is slightly sportier, which appealed to me. You're sat forward and the pegs are slightly further back! Enjoy the bike - happy, safe riding!

+Alex Lacroix (Megawhat) The forks are standard on the Race Blu version, when i was going to the garage i was looking at a orange one. However i saw this one in the corner and the blue forks were the first thing i saw. I don't think this years line up has any versions with blue forks which is a shame :(

Hi mate and thanks for your reply. I have just had a test ride on a 2016 mt 09 and I prefer that to the street I am thinking about buying a new 2017 model but after what you said about the mapping you've got me thinking if I should buy a 2017 model I'm not a mechanic and I don't know much about the workings of bikes so how about some advice about what year of bike I should buy and why try and make your answer simple because I'm a thick jock from Dundee and maybe you could save me a lot of money I know there is a 2014 mt 09 in Aberdeen for sale your opinion would be very helpful cheers Derek. I tried to pm from my iPad but no joy ps your vids are great.

I don't know if European models are different, but the FZ09 U.S. version you don't need to pull clutch to change modes.

Hi mate I'm curios why didn't you buy a street triple the reason I'm asking is I'm stuck between the 2of them I've tried a 2012 triple r which I liked a lot then I tried a2015 triple r and I found it a bit taller and jerkier I did not like it so I'm gonna try the mt09 next to find out which one to go for on the plus side for the mt I sat on one today and I can get my feet flat on the road a big bonus for me being only 5'8"tall and an inside leg of 29" bit of a short arse so any info why you bought the mt would be appreciated thanks. Derek.

The original MT09 had the fuelling problem where the throttle was super snatchy and was almost unrideable on A mode. Has this been sorted now? Looking at getting one in a few months

+Sam Grattan I think it depends on the person riding the bike. This is a original. In A mode it does have a snatchy throttle but it's more than rideable. Model after they did change the fueling but i have heard it dumbed down the performance to fix it. I could get mine done through the dealer but decided against it :)

Not a bad noise, but still can't match the original 900 triple in the Benelli Tornado, now that sounds like thunder. But it does make me hanker for one of these for work.

A triple is 120 degree crank, . the mt-o7 is 270 Degree,

I fancy a Street Triple but in the absence of any dealers within 60 miles am considering one of these... How do you find performance: mid range acceleration, keeping up with mates on sports bikes, fuel economy?

+Jonathan D Performance is amazing, i have not been on a bike which deliveries it power the way it does. The mid range is very strong because of the torque. It will wheelie everywhere. Up to 70 it will keep up with a litre sports bike easy i have done it. Fuel economy 60+ mpg on average, if your gunning it i normally got 50 average. There is just some raw and ready about this bike which appeals. I would highly recommend one :)

+Jonathan D, Not a problem. I just have the normal model in race blu trim. It also came with a Akrapovic exhaust for free. I have now fitted a tracker style screen as well which does help over 60 :) Was only £35 . But yeah just depends what style you want they all have the same base, there bring out a new one. It's not called a MT though but it has a more traditional look if thats more your thing.

Yamaha calling a triple cross plane is bullshit, all 3 cylinder bikes have a 120 degree crank apart from early Laverdas.

+Paul Hampton It is just sales patter but other then that the engine is great. A mate of mine had a Laverda 180 crank and that used to walk along the floor on the stand when ticking over. They then went to 120 cranks and many side that the took a bit of fun out of the bike.

Weird... Im 5'10, i couldnt put one foot flat on the ground. Tip of my left toes until i leant it a bit once stopped.

+sugarnads Weird that, one of the reasons I got the bike was because I could get my feet flat on the floor and I'm 5.7. I know other models have different ride heights though such as the tracer and the tracker.

+mohammed nawas Plug and play if you keep the baffle in, i have made a custom baffle which makes the system loader but no need to change the fueling :)

What are the service intervals like with this bike ? I hope it's similar to my old 660x and less similar to my ktm.

Sounds pretty reasonable. My personal experience with Yamaha is they do put some shit parts on their bikes, but the engines are extremely robust. Booked a test ride on this for next week yay!

there is no difference with the exhausts with the snatching I had the original now got an ackropovich and to me it's not made a difference but you need to take the baffles out believe me you will love the sound

+James Wells I did stick a DNA filter in which helped with the throttle, i have also made my own baffle. Found it was too loud without on in and too quiet with the stock one :)

+Lance Flanagan I wouldn't say so, my feet are on the floor and i have a slight bend in my legs. So i would just say you will just have to bend your legs a slight bit more. :)

+Lee C 140 miles i can normally push it to, and thats not eco friendly riding :P The tanks aren't the biggest, the tracer has 3 liters more though if that was an issue.

+Steel paip lol there is a lot of debate for how to say it. I used to say it how everyone else says it until i met a Akrapovic bloke at a show who put me right as he said :P I also like the way it sounds.
