Repetition of a ball machine separates it from other kinds of practice. I never thought it would be such a productive way to demo a racquet!

Totally agree that some racquets are objectively better than others 👍🏼

I know I come late to the party but I cannot but agree with all said. Some rackets do more good things than others, although playstyle is a big factor here. Also strings is extremely important. You can try the same racket and have completely different experiences with different strings / tension. Having said this. I have tried and do own many (if not most) of the most popular modern rackets and Pure Aero 98 always comes on top. Most rackets favor control over power or spin, but this Aero hits all the spots for me. I'm a wall with this racket, can hit hard and never miss, I can slice and I can flat out shots. Some rackets have some areas where they are better than the Aero but none hits all the spots like this.

Agree the pa98 does many things unusually well despite how many other things it also does so well! Strings can definitely make a huge difference in certain rackets. Funny how that can matter more of less depending on the racket...

Hi, how would you compare the React MPP 99 to Yonex frames? Which one would be closest to it? And how is it in terms of arm-friendliness? Thanks!
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis 3 месяца назад
Good question. Probably plays the most like percept lineup. Might feel in between vcore and percept in terms of flex but it depends on what you compare. I actually might prefer the React 99 to most of the comparisons here. I'd have to try again to be extra sure.

After a20 year gap from tennis I started back with lessons a year ago which was 4 years post stroke. I had misplaced my old head graphite edge and demoed many before settling on a Wilson ultra 100. Now I’m searching for something new again as you pointed out there is such a difference in performance and feel with modern racquets. I also don’t have the modern forehand to appreciate some of the benefits from the modern ones.
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis Год назад
Congrats on the comeback! Some would more than others but not sure it'll be what you want. I don't think the new stuff requires a modern swing style but it can benefit having one, if that makes sense. But sounds like you found something!

I feel like the real compromise with power is more often the comfort and feel and not the control: Usually the more powerful rackets are stiffer and therefore less comfortable and may cause arm or wrist pain…and to compensate for that those rackets are often dampened that you lose the touch and feel for the ball. The other extreme is when the rackets have a huge static and swingweight to generate more power by the pure newtonian physics but those obviously are freaking heavy and difficult to swing nicely. 😅 After a very long period of testing, I settled on a Pure Strike 16x19 although I always thought I was a 18x20 guy. But this seems to be my perfect Racket because of it‘s astonishing power for its weight, stiffness and size but still having great control. The spin potential is enough for me, because I have more often flatter strokes and with Wasabi it has enough spin for my okish topspin shots. I just gave up on the feel touch and a little comfort. ;)
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis 10 месяцев назад
That is a smart connecting of the dots. You're right and that might be a point I bring up sometime. I'm messing with the 18x20 again just for kicks since I still have to tease the idea of it from time to time. Feels pretty right to me even though it was strung with Zero months ago at like 35lbs and must be lower by a lot now. Might try again with a thinner string but I'm pressed to find super thin strings that really impress me. Ether might come close enough and thin enough but I wish there were a couple 18g options from Zero or Toroline with this level of snapback so I don't have to sacrifice on that.

Growing up with wood rackets, the big advantage I found with wood is feel and its ability to absorb shock, but there's really little to compare to most of today's frames in terms of overall playability. Did you customize the React 99 in any way?
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis Год назад
I agree! There is probably certain stuff to appreciate but it might be far off from being good or helpful in today's tennis. Overall would be a big handicap I think. No meaningful customization. Just an overgrip. That's all.

Your question about some racquets being better than others. I am old. What is interesting is that a long time ago in the era of the T2000, wood and the early graphites like Dunlop... There wasn't the variety of today. Racquets have evolved to have numerous difference in playability, feel etc. The old racquet selections did not offer you the choice of today... except I guess the Jack Kramer pro staff was made from better material and quality control. The choices of today, and add in the vast array of strings... It is very hard to find a racquet that fits your game..
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis Год назад
Good point! Yes, in a world of so many options and variations on each, especially in combination, the rabbit hole is quite deep. I suppose having so much choice always has that downside.

@@ZeroLoveTennis I just went into an antique shop today and someone had cleaned out their T2000s. Those old steel raquets that Jimmy Connors used... well... they weigh a ton... the sweet spot is about the size of a tennis ball... You're a real tennis player if you can swing and win with that one...

How could your tc 97 be too heavy, you choose the specs when you order it. I have heard people say it’s flexes in the hoop too much. You are also one of the few people I have heard say they like the pure aero for its control.
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis 11 месяцев назад
You don't really get to choose swingweight. It's awkward combination of both is the issue, not just the weight. They're all foam filled and the head shape is also going to make it less stable. Didn't feel too much hoop flex but maybe never got to due to how floppy the frame is on contact inherently. Yeah PA98 has great control for the kind of racquet it is. But it's not a control type racquet. However, it's feedback and response is so intuitive and good that I really must credit that miracle. Still impressed by it to this day

Wood rackets are far better....in some ways. The flex, and heavy weight make them far more comfortable. High flexibility, as long as its accompanied by heavy weight to avoid the "wet noodle" syndrome, also is better for consistency/control. Aside from Nadal and maybe now Alcaraz, look at the best players of the past few decades, guys that won slams etc.. Novak uses a very old school racket, IE thin beam, small head, very heavy etc. Federer, Wawrinka, Murray, Cilic, Del Potro same. Previous generations, similar. Sampras dominated with a very thin beam, small head, heavy frame. Lendl used an absolute war club and dominted his era too. In 2003, 3 guys used a 100 square inch frame or bigger to win Grand Slams. Roddick, Ferrero, and Agassi. Had Coria converted match point at Roland Garros, it would have been 4. In the 20 years since, exactly one player who uses a 100 sq inch head has won a slam: Nadal. For all the discussion about how better tech means better rackets, you find most of the great players using old school frames and winning by doing so. Strings have gotten way better. Rackets...eh.
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis Год назад
Good points! I hit with a heavy wooden one the other day and it made sense to me why people had such a "swing through the contact point" technique. I could not get power or depth without doing that whereas nowadays I can just by sheer racquet head speed, which opens the doors for some new or different techniques. Fed is an interesting example because over the years, his headshape did indeed get bigger, as if to say that it was a necessary change to keep up with the game but one could argue it was just an aging thing. However, I think it's the way the game was going.

Definitely modern rackets are better than older wooden rackets amd wooden composite rackets. I grew up with wood rackets and cannot compare to current rackets. Even older graphite rackets 10 years old are not as good as current tech, swingweights and materials and strings...new tech better old tech.

How does this Angell react compare to a speed mp? That’s my go to because of the feel and power/control ratio. PA98 pretty good racket but I don’t like the feel, too hollow and stiffer than what I would like (despite mine measuring 63 RA). Wondering if you know what a more “solid” feeling speed mp would be. I like the feel but still some hollowness/vibration
@ZeroLoveTennis
@ZeroLoveTennis 10 месяцев назад
Hmm, I wonder if you'd like the Percept line. They might be different from the speed a bit but are also not like the PA98 at all. But you can get good shape on the ball and it somewhat fits into the same niche of the speed MP if you get the regular Percept 100 or 97. Those are similar weight/swingweight classes as well. The Angell might be worth a try but it has a very dense pattern but yeah actually pretty similar in some ways. Easier to get hands on a Yonex though, I'd try both if I was you and were curious.

@ZeroLoveTennis 9 месяцев назад
@mteca5093 yes! It is and id say it actually gets more spin but in stock form can be more stable for flat shots as well. Honestly try it. The pa98 got me off the EZ98 actually. Same access to power but a little more predictable. I think better feel. Better pocket. It's honestly surprising and impressive to me the ways in which it performs better while still keeping so much of what I wanted. Very impressive racket.
