Hey guys!! Hope you enjoyed this video! I didnt go into detail about the USDA snail laws in the video, i mentioned. So here are the current facts! 🐌 It is illegal to buy/ship ALL live land snails across state lines. 🐌 Giant GAL snails are illegal in all 50 states. 🐌 It is legal to keep & own snails you find in your state or yard! 🐌 It is illegal to release clutches of non native snails into your yard. 🐌 the USDA requires that all clutches of non native snails be “culled” or frozen. :( 🐌 The USDA “claims” to have a process for getting a permit owning non native snail HOWEVER i tried this years ago- dealt with the USDA for months, filled out all the forms they wanted & they made it impossible to do. I could make an ENTIRE VIDEO about my past with the USDA. Anyway! Just wanted to share!!! IM SO HAPPY TO HAVE MY SNAILS NOW.
So cute ! I live in NYC so snails get stepped on all the time so when it rains I try to save as many as I can by moving them off the busy sidewalks because they’re so cute !
When snails get broken I usually use egg membrane like the stuff in between the shell and egg and stick it on the crack with water :D you could make it to the right size for the snail :D
Thank you for posting this! I just got 2 milk snails and I did as much research as I could. I ended up getting the same exact tank, soil/substrate and cuttlebone! It’s so validating to see another snail owner with an almost identical snail set up - makes me feel confident that I’m doing right by my snail babies!
My 4 year old found a bunch of snails and asked if we would keep them. We have 6 in a similar enclosure. We’ve had them for almost a year. So easy to care for, they’ve gotten so big.

2:51 WHATT! I WANT ONE OF THOSE, I’ve never seen them. I only have one snail and I have been with her only 3 days. I don’t want a lot of them because I’m new to all this, but I still feel sad because she’s lonely. Do I need to find more of her kind of can I simply mix different kind of snails? (Not talking about the aquatic ones) It’s been 3 weeks, and reading this is cute lol. She has been okay, and she’s not lonely anymore, I have other 8 snails. They are healthy, have a big home, and are really happy.♥️
So a few things to add to this video. Theres no specific "garden snail". Garden snail refers to literally any snail. If you were interested, i think the snails you have are Neohelix albolabris (i also have a few). Babies are extremely difficult to care for so please make sure youre 100% ready if you want babies. Also, please dont feed them cucumber or lettuce often. They're addictive and have low nutrient content. I applaud you for the research youve done though. I see so many people that get snails and dont even give them cuttlebone. Thats an amazing enclosure and i think theyll be happy!
I've recently added three African land snails to my mini collection of creatures. I live in the UK and they are easily available over here and people often get inundated with them unfortunately and therefore many need homes all the time.

At 60, I'm about to become a first time Snail Mom! I'm so excited....this is like something from my childhood...years ago! I'm getting my snail from California, and it will be a helix aspersa, a Greek garden snail! I will get one that is about as large as a silver dollar and will still do some growing! Please me know if you know of any great groups or chats concerning snails!
sliding tops are really dangerous for snails incase they are on the door and you dont notice and they fall and get damaged, they also really do need more space but ur doing a great job!!
Hi! Thank you for this video. I just got some land snails. It’s been raining and y’know snails come out. I’m a delivery driver and on one of my delivery’s I saw a couple and the home owner was about kill them when he saw them and I couldn’t help but tell him to stop, he said he hates them bc they’ve been eating his cucumbers and tomatoes. Anyway I felt very sorry for the snails and took them to my van and drive around town with them delivering packages, I loved them so I decided to keep them without realizing how little I know about land snails. So this video really helped me out a lot, I appreciate it!
Hey I really like your video it's very nice of you to look after the snails and the home you have made for them is so good Im from England And I also have a pet snail I found him in my garden in the summer time it was around July August he was stuck to the wall as I know they don't like to hot temperatures so I decided to keep him he's really cute just like your snails I feed him lettuce and other vegetables he likes carrots sweet potatoes beans I think his favourite is lettuce and I give him a shallow bath and wash his shell and skin gently they are fun pets to have and there easy to care for I've named him Patrick enjoy your snails there so beautiful 💖
I love all your animals! I want the opportunity to have all those animals like you do when I'm on my own. I also just got a pacman frog and looks just like lemon! His name is Hopscotch.
Love your little tank for them😍 just a couple things though, not sure if the plant pot is terracotta or plastic? If it is terracotta, you're better off switching it for a plastic one😊 if the snail falls onto it, they can damage their shells. Also, the cuttle bone needs to be placed soft side up or they won't be able to eat it😊 hope you enjoy your new little pets😁 they're certainly spoilt😂
Lovely set up the moss is a great idea they love the humidity, but I personally think the enclosures is a tad too small especially considering the rate they reproduce and GALS can as the name suggests get pretty big when they are adults x
@@jasminezed7839 looking back through the video I think your right 😁 they look more like roman snails (helix pomatia) they still get fairly big so I still wouldn't recommend an enclosure of this size x Romans has a shorter shell whereas GALS have more of a cone shape 😁
Hi wondering if you have read these same things and what you think? I read that cucumber and Romain is like crack for them, but it doesn’t have much nutrients and sometimes they will refuse to eat anything else. Also that you have to peel the membrane out of the inside of the egg shells, and that they need to be ground up so they aren’t too sharp. I want my snail to eat some eggs but he LOVES cuttle bone! I just found three clusters of eggs! 15 of them are happy as can be and SO CUTE!
Yesterday me and my sister found 3 snails near our pool so we used a extra tank that we had and we put a hide, moss, food, substrate, and climbing leaves and that kind of stuff in there and then we put the snails in and they are loving it!

I have a temporary fish tank with those blue lids. I found 4 of the small brown garden snails, is it okay if I keep all 4 of them in there? If not I have another tank that is slightly bigger
Make sure they also get a protein source as well in their diet! Bloodworms, mealworms, egg (yolk & whites mixed). I wouldn't recommend fish flakes or dog bones (although those are commonly suggested) because they often contain salt and other additives.
I'm assuming that you are located in MA from your shirt. I've noticed that the best places to find snails if you want to make a day trip out of it is in and around green areas of Boston. I've found tons of different varieties that I never see in rural northern MA where I am.
I think u already know this but they can lay eggs by itself they don't need another snail (sorry if u already knew this I'm not trying to be mean and good luck with ur lil snail buddys) (AND new sub!)
My snails are picky, they do not eat bell pepper, kale or much broccoli. They'll have a little Broccoli but hardly any carrots. I think if I soak the carrot for longer they'll have it
Girl, you’re going to end up like Paul Cuffaro where you have lots of animals (minus the saltwater tank, 4000 gallon freshwater pool pond, pigs and ducks) with all the animals you plan to have!
@@LorisHartland There's a great snail group on fb called Land Snail Enthusiasts USA, if you join you might be able to find someone near you who has some or be able to tell you where you might find some in your state if there's any in TN. Also there's an app called iNaturalist where people spot different animals they've spotted and the location, so you may find some on there near you :)
Snail keeper/amateur malacologist here. Sorry, not Cornus! Those are either neohelix or mesodon. Cornus inhabit more urban areas and have more distinct striping. Neohelix and mesodon prefer wooded areas/rotting matter and eat more protein than cornus. Would love these species, they're some of my favs.
