I like your Videos Stefan. Is there any chance you could do a series on gliders that you don't own. If while at the field you see an odd or older glider you could take it up for a quick review flight, with a post flight epilogue of the landing handling, etc. I like your positivity and delivery. It's obvious you have passion for gliding. Thanks.

That very much depends upon where you are flying in the world.....and flight restrictions vary enourmously within countries...some places you are not allowed to fly, some you are, sometimes there are special areas etc. there are no real easy answers......

I actually stopped using the electronic vario last year. I found that it made me a better pilot by using the analog vario and feeling the plane and how it acts when going into a thermal. I do NOT miss the constant tone from the electronic vario!
@SteFly
@SteFly 3 года назад
Feeling the plane is very important! Especially when flying at a competition with many other gliders it is mandatory to have an acoustic variometer. I don´t want to miss this possibily but on the other hand it is really annoying to hear the sound of the vario at night

@Will Swift There isn´t a problem with stability during the landing. At least I´ve never had one. In fact, it´s even more stable if you don´t have a landing gear that juts out as far as a tricycle does, especially when have to perform an outlanding. And you dont have the space to fold in big landing gears

@SteFly
@SteFly 3 года назад
Vielen Dank, Arnulf!

@Will Swift I've done something better by replacing all instruments with a single digital unit that displays everything on a single screen similar screen like the F-35 and the F-18 new block 3 screen but just a bit more smaller. Analog instruments are thing of the past now.
@antoniok4735
@antoniok4735 2 года назад
@Will Swift I don't like the analog instruments in general. They are old fashion not very reliable and mostly they take to much space. With the digital dash that I went for is much better because you can customize which gages you want to be displayed you can move their position around the screen the comms freq. Is always on top so it's much easy to understand way cheaper for future upgrades. My display is 15 inch touch screen 1024 x 720 LED, IPS panel 500 nits brightness with a special filter to absorb light not to reflect it very similar to the LG OLED TV screens filter. The screen is not the best for screen resolution or brightness but it gets the job done and it's low power consumption. I had to increase the batteries

@soaruk3697 3 года назад
Yes, basically an ASI, Altimeter and Vario is all you need plus a paper airspace map, and the ability to use your brain rather than a computers, even to go cross country, in a lot of countries. Its how pilots used to do it before the advent of GPS and modern computer technology - it is how some still do, but you will find them usually flying gliders that cost less than Stefan's instrument panel.
@otsokivivuori7726
@otsokivivuori7726 3 года назад
I mean, asi and altimeter are important especially for approach and i would not do one without them, so i can know that i got enough speed to take a small gust or that i start the approach early enough when getting low. And a radio is required for safety, as communication is the first step there.
