Before using a product, I like to know that it is durable and able to withstand daily exposure until it can be covered.. In this video, I'll run through just how I built this little shed, but it gets better.. We're going to STRESS TEST ZIP System Sheathing and Tape to make sure it's good enough to use on projects.

A year flew by Q U I C K ! I built this thing as a stress test, to see how durable Huberwood's products really were.. This building, when this mini-series is through, has sat exposed in the weather for 365+ days. If you had to guess, do you think there is any issues with the building? Tape pealing off, windows leaking, roof leaking, sheets fading? Let me know what you think down here in the comments! 2 more videos to come, before we reveal what it looks like a year later.. This is the FIRST (that I know of) exposure test with ZIP System Sheathing & Tape here on the Toob.

Those ring shanks for the floor also have glue toward the end of the ring shank and is activated by the heat. Also preventing the backing out of the nail.

Do you guys always nail the tongue on the sub? I always leave that nail until I put the next piece in and then add it to my nailing pattern. Seems to go so much easier

Ring shank nails - the rings on the shank on the nail resist the nail from pulling out of said lumber

That dude with the long hair is a damn carpenter! He reminds me of the old salts that I worked with and learned from when I was a teenager. This shed would make a nice cabin in the mountains!

What dimensions are your door opening? How much clearance did you leave around your door and window frame? Beautiful video as always. Work safe.

Good question . I know what we do at work is leave an extra 1 Inch around. But I always felt that was a little much.
@TheDirtyBirchTrails
@TheDirtyBirchTrails 3 года назад
Windows is half inch all around. 36 inch window, 37 inch opening. Doors a little more you have to include room for the jam and shims. 36 inch door. 38 inch opening. On the height add 1 inch at the top for jam and shims.

Thoughts on using engineering wood (LVL) for framing vs. traditional milled lumber? (if those are the correct terms)

Why are some of the floor joists closer together? Looks like two of them are only a few inches apart vs 16” on the others. I’m not being critical, I’m genuinely curious! I’ll be starting a 16’x32’ for my wife pretty soon. Also what height are the floor joists? It’s hard to tell in the video.

I’m researching on building my own shed, but I’m curious as to why you didn’t install joist hangers for the I Beams? Also, I’d probably use pressure treated wood instead of I beams to prevent any potential for moisture and termite damage. I’m a newbie so I’m genuinely curious as to your choice of construction.

is there a reason not to use glue on the wall sheathing?

The glue on the subfloor keeps the floor from creaking over time. Wall sheathing doesn’t need glue since you won’t be walking on it.

The sheathing can be replaced with OSB or Plywood. The budget friendly part was a 2x4 framed 8x16' storage building.
