I bought a 2020 Ford F-350 Superduty to have a reliable tow rig, and it breaks down in the middle of a 20 hour trip, with my trailer, and race car, and all my belongings stranded. Ford wouldn't do anything to help us get home, store the trailer, etc. so we had to find another way.

Thank you all for the support. As I said before. Please refrain from leaving bad google reviews. The situation sucked. But the rest is done and dusted nothing can be done to change it. Now it’s just a matter of if ford honors the warranty on a part that’s known to fail… overall, It’s a lesson learned. I won’t make this mistake again of new car warranty nonsense. Regardless of how it all shakes out. I think it’s time to go back to the basics with a truck I can fix myself. Being a car guy and relying on warranty is a waste of time. It’s like having your hands tied behind your back. Also Chris’s Instagram is @chrisgrunst if you wanna give him a follow for being a legend! Update: I got a call from the president of the dealership. He apologized very genuinely while taking fault for the situation. He actually watched the video instead of just responding out of anger. This could have gone a lot of other ways. But the way he approached it I respect. He’s a genuinely nice guy. And he’s really gone way above and beyond to make things right without me asking. Update #2 it seems like it is covered and may be done as early as this weekend! So that’s good news atleast. I was worried it would be some backordered parts and take forever.

I was a service manager for over 20 years. It would have meant nothing to me to find a spot for your trailer and get right on your truck. I had a priority list and broken down travelers were at the top. I even had a crew who could sympathize with the customers also. There was always a mechanic willing to stay late if the solution was near. Your experience, had it been at my shop, would have been positive for both of us and you'd look back at it fondly.

Several years ago I was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia). I live in Carson City, NV. We headed off to MD Anderson cancer center in Houston in our 2016 F-350 6.7, towing our 30' travel trailer. I started getting check engine lights as we were going across NM. I ended up finding Gurley Ford in Gallup, NM. It was the first Saturday they were open since the COVID debacle. Anyway, I pleaded my leukemia dilemma and told them about my CEL (which I had diagnosed with my Banks iDash gauge). They took me in, let me drop my trailer down the street in one of their car lots, and immediately started working on my truck. They did a manual regen and updated the computer software on the truck. All this took about two hours. It cost me just over $100 - I was shocked. That's the same as "free" when it comes to diesel repairs. I was SO pleased with that dealership! I managed to get to Houston in time to get the proper treatment so I'm here to tell about my experience. There ARE good dealers out there!

I worked in service for 21 years. Anytime we had somebody traveling through the area that came in with a breakdown, understanding the situation the customer is in, I automatically gave them top priority. That might mean going above and beyond what we would offer to the normal customer dropping off a car for service. Like allowing a trailer to be parked in our storage lot temporarily. They were likely worried about liability for your property, but it's simple enough to make a note on the paperwork about the storage and that the dealer isn't liable. That dealer staff was terrible at showing any empathy. The disclaimer about diagnosis cost if the repair is found to not be covered under warranty is just to cover the dealership's exposure though. It doesn't mean that they are trying to deny warranty coverage. Sometimes cars are dropped off with repairs assumed to be under warranty. Then after hours of diagnosis it's found that it isn't. Like an electrical problem on a brand new car that anyone would assume is covered, is found out to be due to rodent damage. It happens. The dealership can't bill warranty for that shop time and the dealership does have employee and facilities cost regardless. Myself and all writers I've worked with were always happy to give the good news to a customer that their repairs would be covered under warranty. Yes we do get reimbursed less than customer rate from warranty, but it's headache free and everybody is happy.

Yeah, that's the way I would approach it if I were a service manager in this situation as well. Seems like this dealer was intentionally messing with Taylor. I bet he's regretting that right about now. This looks bad on Ford and really looks bad on his dealership. 1.2 million eyeballs on his dumb a** so far. I bet they've never had this much attention in all their years in business, maybe combined. Supreme Ford of Slidell, LA folks.

They don't care they know all the dope will be lining up to buy some over priced Lighting, or that broken down Bronco, or that POS Maverick. See when you have brain dead customers it easy to fool them again and again. Time to switch to a real truck eight Toyota or Honda, and before you tell me it will not tow a small country. Time to leave all that stuff at home or get a real tucking company to move it for you. Sure less expensive in the long run then to buy a Ford, Gm or Dodge anything.

Agreed. Also, for a customer like Taylor not being able to rely on the warranty service to at least keep him moving forward is a 10,000% deal breaker!! He’s screwed both ways since the warranty makes him unable to get the part and fix it himself, taking away the only benefit warranty provides! Dealerships are great when well-managed, but comparable to the worst insurance company when poorly managed. That trailer comment proves the service manager either is a) a 5h1+ human being with no compassion or b) has never taken a road trip with so much in one trailer and the stress that multiplies on a situation…or both.

Always took it to the dealer for service and they were very helpful; but they were mystified regarding the one-thing-after-another failures - all having to do with the engine, by the way - fuel system was the main culprit. This is the first time I watched your videos, and the headline caught my attention. Over 20 years ago, traveling to Alabama from Arizona, I had fuel injector pump troubles on a dual-wheel chevy. I was pulling a heavy 37' foot fifth wheel back home from a 3-year stay in AZ. On I10 in AZ while pulling a grade in Texas Canyon, I lost most of my power. I was able to limp into El Paso and get into a campground. I had fewer options than you. I spoke with a recently retired colleague back in Alabama and within 24 hours from Clanton AL he showed up in El Paso with Dodge Cummings and pulled me and my trailer home. I had managed to get the truck to an El Paso dealer and they gave me a ride back to the campground. I noticed you have an updated video, so I will get to see the end of the story. I had issues with the warranty on recently replaced fuel injector pumps with my truck. The bow-tie boys would not cover anything.

The insurance company and the dealership are two complete and different companies. Dealers offer this type of insurance to costumers as an option. Dealerships don't provide the relief from these policies , the insurance company does. The dealer only covers their warranty , which is the manufactures warranty and doesn't apply to trade in vehicles that are purchased used. I bought a car from a dealership and they offered a warranty for a price. I asked to see the policy terms and after reading them, I said no thanks. Skip the warranty folks.

That is absolute truth.......... But the fact is the dealer will use ANYTHING he can find to squirm out of giving anyone free repairs no matter who is backing the warranty. @@crazyoilfieldmechanic3195 of course dealerships don't want to give anyone free repairs. They're businesses, not charities and the people wirking there are employees, not volunteers. But warrenty isn't free work. If it's a manufacturer's warrenty the work is paid for by the manufacturer. If it's extended warreny the work is paid fir by the warrenty company. Extended warrenties are pretty easy to work with. You diagnose the problem, explain what's wrong and give them a quote for the repair. They either approve the job or they don't. Manufacturer warrenty is different. They demand more documentation only to pay less than the job is worth, the payout often being dependant on appoval after the the job is done. No one wants to do more work for less pay or no pay at all so they will naturally be extra vigilant when it comes to manufacturer warrenty claims.

I road raced for over 20 years and the tow vehicle was always the best vehicle in the driveway. We had several breakdowns over the years and I was always amazed at how people came to you in the time. I do recall the time we were at Roebling Road and needed a water pump in the 'Burb. I had so many mechanics standing in line to help but no parts stores had the water pump for a 454???? We had to stay overnight and get a tow to the dealer. At least the track let me leave the trailer at the track. Another time we blew the intake gasket and stopped in Metter GA where a dealership was 300 yards off the interstate. One of the techs even ran home to get a part that wasnt in the store and we were on the road in just a few hours. I sent the guy a gift card for a very good restaurant in Gatlinburg because that was his vacation spot. There are good people out there but the bad ones usually are remembered. I almost didnt make LS Fest several years ago because my tow vehicle didnt make it out of the shop; its first replacement broke while I was driving it home after borrowing it from a racing buddy. Finally a client took a truck out of his fleet and sent the crew home early so I could have it for the weekend. Luckily I never broke down in La.

@recoilrob324
@recoilrob324 Год назад
I HATED working on the 6.7 Powerstroke. Every single one of them leaked oil within the first year, many water pumps fail and the diesel emission systems are terrible. DEF heaters fail regularly as well as the multitude of NOx and EGT sensors. I was stranded out on a test drive when an EGT sensor failed and the truck shut off. Refused to even crank. When the DEF system has ANY problems it'll start counting down miles until it will limit its' speed then refuse to start. Most owners didn't show up with them in this condition (yes...we had many) until there were only a few miles left before the truck bricked itself. You cannot reset this counter....you have to fix the problem (or hope you did) then drive it and once the computer is satisfied it's supposed to clear the counter and light. Driving an F-450 dually from the local Gas Company (fully loaded box truck) the counter hit '0' and according to the readout on the dash it was going to limit itself to 50 mph...but that's not what it did...it threw itself into REVERSE at 50 mph!!!! Man...that was dramatic and it destroyed the transmission. Everyone was upset ...including me having to wrestle a hopping, smoking truck off the road without hitting anything...very exciting. I'm sorry but you couldn't give me a 6.7 Ford and anyone expecting to buy a new one and then depend on it for work is likely going to be disappointed....or worse. Edit: I wrote the above before watching the video. Low fuel pressure is often the pressure regulator that is in the rear of the motor drivers side. When you pull it out there will likely be metallic debris in it which Ford will then say is YOUR fault from water in the fuel. Most owners don't regularly drain the water separator and Ford says you must replace the ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. BS. We've replaced several pressure regs (they're not that expensive) without doing the entire system with success. You are looking at $5-7000 for the repair if you do it the way Ford says to do it. See...that's why I hate them.

This is why i graduated to a Class 8 Semi converted to tow vehicle for my RV as a Travel Nurse. You just reached the point i did with newer warrantied trucks like i did. I started my journey in a older 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 w/Cummins. It was a vehicle i had for a very long time and put over 300k on it myself daily driving it. The minute i started to use it for towing my 5th wheel RV, the reliability of the truck suffered and i broke down often fixing it on the side of the road, but i was able to do it myself in most cases. I reached a point that i wanted something newer and more comfortable to tow with on the longer trips and that was under warranty to not worry about for a while, that was the mistake your going through that i fell under also. I bought a 1 year old 17k miles 6.4 Powerstroke F350 and i had a similar situation as you happen, the truck broke down on me in the middle of the dessert going through Arizona and the closest dealer that could look at it was hours away. This was prior to the knowledge of how bad these engines would become. They diagnosed it and informed me i needed a new engine, injector stuck open and melted a cylinder... they were willing to put me in a loaner, but only a F150 at the most, which was totally useless to me outside of just commuting in it.. so after 5 weeks of them waiting on parts they returned the truck to me and i sold it to get away from Diesel trucks for a while. I just had a bad taste in my mouth, because it took forever to fix, was not reliable like i thought it would be, and parts were difficult to find for a while even being barely a year old. So my next truck ended up being a brand new 0 mile 2011 F350 6.2v8 gas pickup, because i wanted to try something gas and Ford was willing to buy my truck back from me and give me a massive discount on a brand new pickup after multiple other issues with the 6.4 powerstroke. I drove that for a year, was very reliable, just gutless.. no power while towing, scared me at times to make it to the top of a hill... and the fuel cost was astronomically more than the diesel truck. I was desperate to find a more reliable truck to tow my RV, because i really enjoy travel nursing, but the transporting everything was just killing me.... and someone at a RV resort i was staying at introduced me to their Class 8 Semi they used and i fell in love with the idea after they let me test drive and experience it for a while. So i sold my almost 2 year old gas pickup and bought a used class 8 volvo sleeper cab w/700k miles and replaced the commercial 5th wheel with a between the frame rail RV style 5th wheel so i could drop commercial insurance on the truck and re-title it as a motorhome with regular price insurance. That was 2013 when i did that and 10 years later i don't regret it one bit.. The Class 8 class of pickup is so much more comfortable to tow with, the RV is not even felt behind the truck so far less stressful, been stupid reliable.. the only time i've ever had a breakdown in the truck to date was something on the road bounced up and took out a airline distribution block and the local truck stop had 24hour service come out and fix it at 1am in the morning for me. Then to top it all off, the semi I bought has a auxAPU unit, which i use all the time going on day trips or weekend trips to camp remotely... i leave the RV at the resort, pull up to a park or site and have the beauty of a bed and a/c and heat in the cab available along with powering everything. Look into them man.. its saved me so much money over the years between savings on hotel cost while traveling and such...i honestly wish i would have found out about them sooner.. the fact i use it for such a light load it barely works... so it should last me a very long time and i average between 11-13mpg no matter if towing or bobtailing it somewhere..when i had the gas truck i averaged between 4-6mpg towing....

I looked at some of these trucks just for fun based on your story and I was first surprised by how many miles that have on them for their age (of course it makes sense haha) and the 2nd thing that surprised me was how cheap you can buy them for. A lot cheaper than these new F350's that's for sure! And 11-13 mpg isn't that bad really. Hell I pulled a 5k pound load the other day and got 14mpg in my little gas 5.3l. No way I'm towing a 5th wheel with it either.

I'm a heavy duty vehicle mechanic. I whole-heartedly agree with everything nurse Huston says. It's all in the numbers. The number of class 8 trucks built in a year compared to all all medium duty (class 5 through 7) has got to be huge, 10 or more to one. William touched on an important point. Maintenance, you can get parts and find technicians everywhere 24 7. Last point though is try to get so.e training so you can use a standard transmission or possibly an automated manual. Hydraulic automatics are good in stop start vocations , buses, refuse. But for what you're doing, gear up and you'll never look back.
