Come with me as I spend the next year or two restoring this car back to it's former glory.

I think that this is going to be a very fun project car for you to outfit. And for us to watch on its journey to its final form. Take care and hope you are doing well.

My first car was a 2006 Audi A6 3.2 Avant. I bought it 12 years old in 2017 for 5-6K USD with 121K miles. Had it for a year, sold it as I was moving countries. It was not in great condition mechanically, but the interior and exterior was fantastic. It had a factory custom colour, I don't remember the exact name, but it was a baby blue pearl with gold pinstripes on the sides. I still have all the car vin details, hoping that one day I can find it and restore it. I hate the idea of having to sell my cars, but sometimes it's not a choice.

I totally understand. I still wish I hadn't sold my 2000 A4 B5. It was perfect when I sold it. But I'll get this car perfect and I don't think I'll let it go for quite some time 😁

An interesting project, but I feel your wash and polish technique is likely to introduce more swirls and marring than remove. All can be fixed after the old PPF is removed anyway. Lloyd

Thanks Lloyd. Yeah, I didn't really care so much as I want the car detailed after the hood is sprayed and the door handles. Perhaps a ceramic coat as well 😁

Hi Hilton. I think I missed out watching this video. Great to see you have an A6. They are a handsome and solid car and should last for years. I have friends who owned your model but with a 1.9 tdi diesel. It was a very comfortable car for sure. Have fun 😊

Hey Andy. Long time no hear. The A6 is definitely a sexy car. Albeit not as sexy as a Jag but I must say the ride is more plush than a Jag. One barely feels the bumps and it is super smooth. How's you Hyundai going?

@@carfanfan Hi Hilton. The Tucson is going well. The mileage is a very low 17,500 miles. It still gets a weekly wash and a quarterly polish to keep that blue paint popping! It keeps me out of mischief lol 😆 I am looking to change sometime, and will probably go for an automatic next time. Traffic is getting too heavy these days. Good luck with the A6 limo 😁

I had a 2006 model, 3.2 V6 petrol, bought second hand. Nice car - I enjoyed it, but after 8 years of safe motoring it was rather worse for wear, and I traded it on a 2013 Q5 for $1,000 🤣🤣
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 5 месяцев назад
Wow. I do love the 3.2 but the direct injection put me off. I looked at a 2013 A6 3.2 in white but all of them had direct injection so a C7 was off the cards. I also looked at a 2001 A8 4.2 but there are no parts available for those cars so I had to walk away sadly. 😟

@@carfanfan Yeah A8 4.2 would be a beast! probably the carbon build up is what killed my 3.2. It literally had such low power we hardly made it to the yard we traded it at LOL. I had same rear light issues, got a replacement from eBay. But there are many different versions with the LED, so check carefully. Nice yours doesnt have faded headlights. I had to take mine out and get them professionally reground.

@PeterCutforth you right Peter, it was probably carbon that killed it. That's what scared me off. The headlights have vps on which I'm taking off. I'll be replacing them with TT style led lights. They just don't have nice ked tail lights that look OEM. So for now I'll just keep them the same. But watch thos space, I have great plans to not only restore but improve the car. 😜

Always enjoyed your Jaguar videos and used a couple of your fixes to deal with issues on my XF. Good to see you have brought a similar car as a project - Audi's answer to the XF? although prefer the Jag personaly! Will look forward to watching you sort this one out - looks like the car is fairly sound but a few jobs for you to do to bring it up to standard.

Thanks Steve. Yes, the A6 was the XF competitor, but the XF was definitely way ahead in terms of tech. The A6 has some surprising stuff that I've found out while owning it, but XF was ahead of the curve here. The ride is better than XF though. It feels like a Rolls. You barely feel bumps or rough surfaces and insulation is very good. It's smooth and quiet at high speed. The XF was more of a sport sedan and more engaging to drive. I should probably do a comparison video of the two as I'm sure many buying used would like to know. Thanks for watching 🤗

@@carfanfan Think a comparison between the XF & A6 would be interesting - I reckon the wood pack you brought will enhance the interior - we Jag people like wood🙂. Don't know much about the A6 although we have a Mk2 TT as our other car which we like but parts from the main dealer are often silly money! Having said that there are quite a few online German car parts companies around that are more reasonable - they often have ebay shops so imagine you should be able to access them?
@carfanfan
@carfanfan 4 месяца назад
@steveegginton535 Yeah, thanks Steve. I do look around before buying OEM, but I've learned in the past with my A4 to first check with the dealer as sometimes they are cheaper than non OEM suppliers. When I needed a hood catch for my A4 eBay cheapest one was $150 and I decided to check with Audi and they quoted me $25 for the same part. I was shocked. That taught me a lesson. This car won't be cheap, but I think comparable to owning a used XF. Jaguar were pretty expensive because the Rand vs Pound is always at a disadvantage. Same with the Euro and Dollar. So any European car is not going to be cheap to maintain in my country. We're located at the ass end of the world. 😁. So shipping is expensive. Our corrupt government increase import duties literally every month. Getting parts from Aliexpress in China has become expensive. Things are just not good. But I wanted a different car to fix up and boy is this going to be a ride and a half. You will see in some upcoming videos how I struggle with simple things. Over engineered to a fault. And I mean fault. The Germans need to learn to simplify their engineering. There are many ways of getting from A to B. The Germans prefer to go through the entire alphabet before getting to B. Just silly really. 😜
