My husband advised me not to talk in the airport or when we're buying items..I didn't understand his advice until we landed in Nigeria. As you know, once an accent is detected the prices will definitely increase. I had THE best time in Nigeria, but I highly suggest traveling with a Nigerian or someone who's familiar with the Nigeria to avoid 419 and over-paying for items. haha

I know this video is a bit old but it has helped a lot. I will be going there next week but I don’t know where to get any niara. I will carry only one suitcase so I won’t need a trolley. I’ll take an Uber straight to my hotel, may God help me.

I've been the three times in the last 19 months. Your tips are awesome. Like yourself, I was taking malaria meds. Especially my first two trips. Third trip I was a bit relaxed and didn't take meds. Fell ill a couple days.

I love your tips, but I would also like to add that for travel from the US it is essential to bring a set of change clothes and grooming kit just because of the layover and long haul flights.Thanks a lot for the tips because It’s necessary for those who have not been to Nigeria in a min because such people would be in for a great surprise.

Great tips. In Abuja arrival Terminal you have 3 places to change your currency before you leave the airport as well as places to get your SIM and top up credit. People try and 'help' you with trolleys but they won't force you. The last time I was in Lagos airport( years ago) I had to pay a member of staff for her to just tell me where to get a taxi. Totally different experience in Abuja imho.

Another thing.. if you have an unlocked phone you can simply use wifi to make calls... Just have apps like Boss Revolution or WhatsApp already installed on your phone and you can make a call.. That's why it's also good to have a mobile wifi device just incase the Nigeria airport wifi isn't working well.

Welldone Phrankleen. You don’t need to buy recharge cards from anybody at the airport to credit your phone all you need to do is have online banking with which ever bank you bank with in Nigeria. I always credit my phone here before arriving to Nigeria. It can be purchase online

Hello, I just ran across you in my search for trips on traveling to Nigeria, I am American and me and my girlfriend plan to travel there this yr. I am very skeptical and afraid to go because we don’t know anything about the system there. This video was very helpful, but do you have any other videos or advice that are a little bit more thorough for “first timers” we don’t know anybody from Nigeria or have a host, we are just going for the experience.

I went to Nigeria for the first time after about 11 years outside the country last year and I must say corruption has become rampant. I asked a friend of mine that I send some money to to come meet me at the arrival lounge and they would not let him in. The custom officer did not recognize my certificate of something, I cant remember the rest of it, but it is not visa. They collected about 50 us dollars from me. They wanted to collect 200 dollars but I told them I have nothing with me. I was thoroughly harassed. I finally was leg go only to see a bunch of area boys asking if I need help carrying my things. I told them to go and help me bring my friend who was not allowed in. They finally found him and brought him in. We gave the guys 100 naira each only for them to tell me which kind money be that. It was quite an experience. My friend told me that things has changed o. I soon realized what they all meant. Naira has really gone down hill since I was last in the country.

I have a girlfriend that lives in ikeja lagos nigeria. We been dating since 2010... We sent email on and off. Sometimes I feel like going over there.. To meet her in person.. She say the cost of airport tickets for her and her daughter it cost 10,000.00 dollars. Lagos airport to France airport to Minneapolis airport to san jose airport.. Is that true? Please let me know.
