my number one advice for beginner music producers 

My advice has always been and will always be: Make music for yourself, and enjoy the process. Allow yourself to be shit at it.

I draw and animate. Recently I started exploring the musical world and I'm finding that the learning process feels very similar to drawing and animation. You fail a lot, you hit walls, you have to do a lot of research and it can become frustrating, but in the end the passion you have for it will always keep you coming back. I have a tendency to skip basics and dive head straight into the complex shit, so I often have to remind myself to take a few steps back.

My only gripe about being a new producer is that the more inlearn the more i regret that i didn't persue it earlier in life. I absolutely adore the learning process. Just today I was playing with bass arps and did some joyful pearl clutching over the results 🤣 It's just so much fun, even the mistakes. I am naturally self motivated and love to seek out information so i appreciate what you are saying friend!

Great advice! When I started learning to code the lead engineer used to delay answering my questions, I was so frustrated because I have now to spend countless hours reading about the technology details and trying to understand what’s going on. After a year I realized that the process of answering your question is where the knowledge at and not the answer itself, I feel that also apply to other things you learn including music.

This wasnt't just great advice for new music producers. It's great advice for life in the 21st century. I hope everyine is having a great weekend! ☮💜

It’s the answer no one, including myself likes to hear. But this is truly the most practical and honest advice. Producing is a lot of work and extremely frustrating. Especially, for those that are first starting. It’s best to be independent and put the work in to learn.

Indeed, for beginners there's no clear and straight answers. As a beginner in beatmaking myself I've been on sponge mode for the last month (and managed to publish a few beats) mostly by finding hidden nuggets of know-how within long form uncut tutorials rather than topic-specific videos/tutorials. Which was why I'm esp thankful for your 3-part uncut beatmaking process series 👍 That helped me complete and publish my first beat!

You put in a ton of time to make amazing, thorough, comprehensive and accessible videos. It bothers me to no end that people won't do the work and just ask you the easy questions that you've already taken the time to answer. I hope it doesn't discourage you from doing what you do - because there are tons of us that are following with great interest and learning a TON from you.

HAHAHA, you are so right on with your analogies and suggestions. This is how I discovered you, your music and your channel. I Goggle a lot, I always have ( I'm a self sufficient, mostly independent, self starter kind of guy) I even access Reddit to get answers. Another funny thing here is you mentioned how one should watch a video, pause and look up something they see / don't understand then continue on with the video. I'm following your Music Theory series, your Ableton Live for Beginner series and your Melodic Beatmaker Bootcamp series. It's literally taken me about an hour to go through each of your videos because I'm constantly looking up stuff you mentioned or I've seen in your video and want more info. I find this all a bit funny because I figured everyone was doing this already. I had no idea people were bombarding content creators with specific questions all the time. I'm learning lots from you. this is such a good take. being resourceful is a personality trait not a lot of people have. and I believe part of the "question" is moreso them wanting to be seen and not as much them needing the question answered, maybe 50/50. great video man!

Oftentimes, I have expected there to be a laid out process about how to learn things, and sometimes there are, but I still need to be proactive in finding those sources and independently branching out to other sources of information that help me learn what I need to solve my problems. Definitely great advice! When I started learning to record music, I was using a tascam and an Alesis drum machine, my first hardware ever, along with a guitar and bass. It was about 1995, and the internet was fairly new to most people. We definitely didn’t have the resources then that we have today. I had to buy books and magazines, read manuals, lol. And lots of trial and error. Today there’s such a wealth of information at our fingertips, its actually baffling that you even needed to make a video to talk about it. I would think everyone would just know that Google and RU-vid are our friends, lol. But I guess people take that sort of thing for granted. It’s amazing how easy it is to learn, and how much more affordable it is to have a small studio, and how much higher quality the home recordings are today than they were when I was getting started in my 20s. I took several years away from music, and now that I’ve come back the past couple of years, I’ve learned so much new stuff! Like how to dial in a sound from scratch on a synth, for instance. I never really understood how they worked until I got back into it and devoured every RU-vid video I could find. Now if I want to make a bass patch or a pad or something, I can make it happen. And I’ve learned a ton of stuff from this channel about recording techniques, so I thank you for all the effort you put into this!

I enjoyed your most recent video where you asked chatgpt to create the bladerunner type sound and the kalimba dreamy sound. I had a chuckle when watching the video as I did this as well out of curiosity but don't have enough knowledge yet to be able to constuct a song. I'm still in the " loop " phase😂

This is great advice. I started learning how to play bass not too long ago. I wanted to get more into the composing and producing part of music. I'm always googling stuff and watching videos and then I hit a wall. I would say the music terminology/equipment and basic music theory are 2 things that will help a lot. My lightbulb moment was digitally recreating my favorite songs on a DAW. I feel like I learned more about music in the first week of using Cakewalk than I did the whole year prior.

I stopped doing music for a while and picked it up recently again and experimenting with different styles. One thing I've learned is research and documentation reading is super important. I'm a web dev and it has helped a ton with my productions. What I wish is more plugin makers create online documentation.

Great piece of advice, absorbing info is the key, even if you didn’t have the question related to a video, article, podcast etc. Every one shouldn’t rely on content creators and other more “educated” people to ask a question that probably was answered. Internet is a place that has the answer for every question, but you have to look for it! Amazing video, as always. Thank you for what you do @TAETRO!

Research and development.... yep? 100 % ! Great advice. I'm not a producer per say, but I'm constantly trying to improve my guitar studio on a low budget. Using an interface outputted to a stereo receiver. Probably not the best set up , but over last 10 years, that's what I've used into a guitar software sim. I can get some decent sounds through my pioneer 160w speakers, however my next quest will be what kind of speakers to upgrade next; not sure if something like KRK's rockets would sound smaller?

Great video. There are two reasons I have got into music production. 1) I love listening to my music genre 2) i love learning. So being able to produce music I like is key. People want to know “the answer” whereas the answer is really a string of questions that lead you to your knowledge. Also newbies; try not to buy too many things like presets… much better to learn through yt how to create your own presets as then they are free AND you learned some sound design knowledge! Free gets you more!

It's funny how having tools to learn more and satisfy our curiosity or doubts, we simply continue asking as if the answer was not just a click away. It is entirely due to the fact that we believe in the immediacy that social networks give us, for example, without the need for much effort.

This was actually great and valuable advice and quite frankly, it should be applied to other aspects of life as well. In order to truly make progress, you have to be willing to put in individual work instead of waiting for others to guide you.

In not having a physical person to call a music mentor on certain things, I've been googling & tubing non-stop the last 2 months. I'm definitely going to be googling what certain plugins do. i never even thought to, with the weight of all the other searching im doing at any given time lol

So this is great advice in life in general. There are times when I come across a question on post in Facebook and the answer is there is Google. There are times where I copy their question and paste the results. Then I tell them that they can do the same thing i did.

This is great advice! I hoped onto a stream by Bound To Divide and he had an app at the top of his screen with all the metering tools visible and I thought what is that? Turns out he had it labeled because everyone asks that question and a google search later I've spent $10 and now I use Minimeters on every project because its constantly tells me info about my music!

I've got so many ideas for tracks in my head, I've remixed 4 tracks, but I wana make my own, n remix it for different genres, from house, bounce, trance n hardcore versions

I got a question for anyone that is wiling to answer. So I've had this midi controller for almost a week now. I am not gonna get too specific, but beforehand, and even afterwards, I searched the internet for any tutorials and any videos that would help me start making music with it as fast as possible. But unfortunately, there is one problem with my midi that seems to have no solid answer too. Occasionally a key or multiple keys on the piano bed plays at an extremely low velocity. As far as I know, they still work. It's just that, other keys around it will make a sound, but that one or group of keys will play at the lowest velocity possible. To be a little bit more specific, eventually if I press on it again, the key will make a sound . I have searched and searched all over and have not found a single solution. I have a MPK mini Mk3, and I have already tried the hold on Full Level button trick. As far as I know its not a latency problem, so I don't know what it is.
