my ONE problem with Pikmin 4 

My favorite addition to the lore was that the poison the Smokey Progg uses was named "gloom", now its a running joke in my group of pals that Pikmin 4 and Tears of the Kingdom are lowkey canon with one another.

I kinda like that they aren't using the Plasm Wraith in the story. I don't really want it to become Pikmin's Bowser or Ganon, so I'm glad that it's still shrouded in mystery, I wouldn't mind a nod to it though. I like that they went all in on the Dogs, as it makes them fit into the world more with the Sirehound being a common ancestor, and can also explain why so many PNF-404 creatures are present on the Hey! Pikmin Planet.

As far as I can tell, pikmin 4 is not a retcon, but an alternate timeline. The lore is a bit confusing but what is clear is that pikmin 4 takes place before both pikmin 2 and pikmin 3. It takes place before 3 because they mention the upcoming food crisis and booming population of Koppai, and before 2 because of the bad dreams log and Louie saying that he was going to wait for the right job to eat the gold pikpik carrots.

Alleged allergies aside, I think a Pikmin 4 DLC area or cave where you must sneak around to avoid a cat, would be a great idea. Edit: It would probably have to have some kind of special powers, to fit into Pikmin. But I think a black cat in a dark cave would work just fine, it would be hard to make it out in the darkness, so the characters think it is some kind of eldritch horror.

I want to point out that the new Foolix boss is listed as part of the "Goolix" family meaning that the Goolix, unlike the Waterwraith and Plasmwraith, is an actual biological creature that can be easily understood by scientific analysis meaning it is very likely not connected to the Wraiths at all given the very limited understanding of them, just like how the Foolix is stated to be a gigantic single celled organism meaning the Goolix is very likely the same

I had the same thought about the giant dog, I legit thought we'd fight a regular ass dog because I thought the giant house would play a much bigger part in the story like the final boss would be fought in the basement or in the attic

Its crazy how the two best games ever (imo) released within 2 months of each other, Tears of the Kingdom (2nd best) in may and Pikmin 4 (Best) in July!

The biggest new mystery presented in Pikmin 4 is how we simultaneously have a big house with no occupants that is simultaneously being well-kept and also overrun with giant bugs. There's a photo of dogs but no dogs to be found, there's a child's backpack for school that would likely have been taken with the owner if they were at school, and whoever owns the house left the lights on. I'd abandon my house too if there was an armored cannon beetle on my coffee table, but I'd imagine there's more to the mystery than that.

I think they handled the whole retcon relatively well, Pikmin 3 was the one I was most worried about being retconned so I’m glad they implied it just hasn’t happened in the timeline yet lol And hey Pikmin 3 got DLC so there’s always a chance 4 gets some DLC too

My theory for the "retcon" stuff is just that Olimar hit his head too hard on the crash landing this time around. Forgot about his previous travels but retained the basic understanding of Pikmin and muscle memory associated with leading them. The nightmares and such in his logs are memories coming back, and Louie is just dopey/wouldnt admit to eating the carrots in a space log. There are mentions of the other games, with Olimar comparing the Foolix to the Goolix from 1, as well as the Baldi Long Legs to the Beady Long Legs despite those bosses not being in Pikmin 4. The Statue Head's entry also mentions the Gyroid Bust from Pikmin 2. As for the Koppaites, they do frame it as before 3's food crisis sets in, and its likely the three in 4 just dont mention much about PNF 404, which is why its "newly discovered" to them in Pikmin 3. Takes place after 2, but before 3.

I’m so glad to see someone else talk about this. It wasn’t the absence of the Plasm Wraith itself that I was disappointed about, but rather the fact that it felt like Pikmin 3 was really building up to something very interesting for the series’s story going forward and Pikmin 4 just sort of… did nothing with it. Instead they just ended the game with a fight against some ancient dog creature. And that’s a cool concept in it’s own right, but it REALLY bothered me that they went through the trouble of bringing back the Water Wraith only to not add to the mystery of that creature in any way, AND they sort of deconfirmed the Goolix > Water Wraith > Plasm Wraith evolution theory. Even though that was only a theory, it was still a big reason for why I was so invested in seeing how they would manage to work the next “otherworldly alien creature” into the story of Pikmin 4. Basically, I was disappointed with Pikmin 4’s story for not really elevating the mystery or intrigue of the series’s universe the way Pikmin 3 did.

I think Pikmin 4 could take place before Pikmin 3 because olimar's notes on the music box with the Pikmin 3 title music makes olimar feel uneasy like something is happening to him, and Yorke is one of Alph's Brothers, since he is Drake's grandson

My one problem is enemies don’t spawn on the surface, but in caves they do :(

Not only would a regular looking dog be the biggest enemy in the series to date, but seeing all your tiny Pikmin slowly wilt away at this house pet’s life would be horrifying

The way I see Pikmin 4 is not necessarily as a retcon, but just a different timeline where events happened differently but the planet and scenario is basically the same. Like you said, the planet is big which explains why we didn't encounter Moss and the new pikmin in the previous timeline, but in this one Olimar maybe just crashed in a different area. (Same puzzle pieces, different events and pieces used). Alternatively, this could also be a different dimension altogether, an idea that the Water Wraith shows is part of the Pikmin canon in some way. (My headcanon if that is true is that the other dimension where the Water Wraith(s) has its physical form in Pikmin 2 Pikmin 4's dimension, with it switching the location of its body between these two) As to why they decided to make the game in a different timeline / dimension, maybe they thought it would feel a bit weird having to rescue Olimar two games in a row as a main mission, or him crash landing again. So having him be a different Olimar makes it a bit less repetitive in a way for his character? At least that's how I feel about it. If anything, at least this means the original Olimar finally got the vacation he deserves lol

Actually, my personal head cannon is that pikmin 4 takes places moments after pikmin 1. The plaism wraith is still here, just in the form of the water wraith.

As a new Pikmin fan I personally didn't take notice of the supposed "retcons" it does. But I see why it may be disappointing for long time fans who've kept up with the series just for Miyamoto and the developers to say "haha never mind" and take away some of the extensive lore and fan theories. Great video btw!

Personally I feel like Pikmin 4 is really close to fitting in the timeline between 2 and 3. The only real issue I noticed is a few lines of dialogue from Olimar implying he's seeing certain types of pikmin for the first time. Maybe I missed some other dialogue that also contradicts previous games but besides for those couple of lines it mostly seemed to work to me. And you could maybe even explain away some of the few contradictory lines too, so I'm honestly fine with just placing Pikmin 4 at that point in the timeline with the other games.

My main problem is that the endless charge and line up horn are post game items.

I feel like if we get a dlc (which I find likely seeing how successful Pikmin 4 has been) it will hopefully bring back the Plasm Wraith and give us an answer to the numerous shipwrecks. There is also that mysterious note from Olimar just saying he is so tired. So hopefully we will get something that gives us more story

My biggest issue with the Pikmin 4 retcon is that we don't get to see Alph, Brittney and Charlie at *all* like it would have been easy to just port their models into 4 and clean them up a little but nooo they had to show off their shitty character customizer and make the Pain Puff Girls. And their reason for being in the story was dumb anyways. Did they really need a vet to realize that people medicine with people DNA wouldn't work on a dog? And Brittney was a botanist. They didn't even need to replace them since Oatchi grew a leaf tail. *Leaves and plants are Brittney's workfield.*

As soon as I saw the intro, you grabbed my attention. I hope to see this channel grow in the future! I hope at least the Plasm Wraith returns in future Pikmin media, whether it be a possible Pikmin 4 DLC/Expansion or Pikmin 5

I’d say that pikmin 2 and 3 will probably still happen because Louie wants to eat golden pikpik carrots and is waiting for the right mission and the food crisis very possibly happening soon there would be minimal change between the plot of these stories for when they do happen in the timeline pikmin 2 being practically identical story wise and pikmin 3 just having the way they find the planet being different

I think that there is something making them crash a lot, but not the wraith. for one thing in pikmin 4 you see 2 water wraiths in the same room at one point. also, olimar says that he feals like some force other than gravity made him crash, so i think something is making him crash.

I don't think the Plasm Wraith needs to be the big bad in EVERY Pikmin game, but the wraiths need to be referenced at least sometimes! Most people theorize that the Water Wraith and Plasm Wraith are at least somewhat related, as they both have the same goal of hunting down Olimar... (or they DID until they retconned it in Pikmin 4. Since the Water Wraith appears in the Engulfed Castle, and seems to have no motives other than to crush you for some reason). In Pikmin 2, the Submerged Castle's ship dialogue and treasure descriptions implied that there was a sweat smell coming from within that was tempting Olimar's sweet tooth... and _every single treasure_ in the cave (except the Pluckaphone) was some kind of dessert to lure him in.

I'm not too attached to the wraith or the Umibozu theory, but I find it annoying that they did a soft reboot when there's all sorts of comedic reasons for Olimar to come back, and others still crash constantly. I just don't see the point.

Pikmin 4 didn't retcon the previous games, it's just an alternate timeline where Olimar crashlanded in a different area, so the rest of the events that follow would be different. In addition, I don't think that the Plasm Wraith just doesn't exist in this timeline, it just hasn't shown up yet. It did take at least 4 trips on PNF-404 to finally be caught by the wraith after all.

So I initially hated the idea of it being a retcon... But when you think about it, it makes minimal difference, it just means Olimar had a dog on his first visit and the other events of the franchise were heavily foreshadowed. Except for the fact that it completely disregards the greatest strength of the Pikmin franchise as a whole: The world building. If the game took place after 3, that means a bunch of space guys visited the planet after a handful used it to save their own hides. PNF-404 grew, being introduced as a stranger, slowly becoming more familiar, until people started trying to take advantage of it as a "Man vs. Nature" narrative. Kinda cool! However, because it takes place before Pikmin 2, that means it's always been a hot spot for traffic, and I think that's a huge narrative mistake. The planet was originally just "Distant Planet", an isolated place with weird signs of a prior civilization that perished an unknown fate. After a few trips there, Koppai gave it a name and referred to studies that were already there, it made sense. Because of Pikmin 4, now it's implied to be this hot tourist spot that everyone's always visited. Olimar was never alone, there were at least 27 other idiots who thought it'd be a nice trip while he was on vacation and ended up in an asteroid field. The game is amazing, its story is fine, but what it does for the worldbuilding is probably the biggest mistake Pikmin's ever made.

For me, Pikmin 4 has just been the conclusion of where I had left off from Pikmin 2 as a kid before having to return it to blockbuster. Olimar and The President return to PNF-404 to find louie but meet their unfortunate demise to the water wraith. beaten and weary they sent out an SOS distress call but their life support eventually fails and they are transported to the onions and become leaflings, the President becoming the Leaf Sage dandori master and olimar goes out to collect the rest of the castaways to save them. Louie is just chillin out there the whole time, seemingly loving the planet and wanting to stay and eat some tasty bulborbs!

Honestly, I'd _love_ a game or campaign taking place from the point of view of one or more Leaflings. Not only could it explore their psychology and the worldbuilding more, but also allow for some cool gameplay (custom cave creator, anyone?) based off of their different circumstances. Maybe they live in caves because their ships don't work, so they have to clear out an area around their cave entrances to keep them safe. Maybe they make settlements and group up, so the player can have as many or few secondary captains as they want (within a reasonable limit). Maybe they are taking care of a wounded Onion that has its capabilities reduced, so you have to restore its functions over the course of the game. 7:08 Because Olimar doesn't have a reason to visit that damn planet a _fourth or fifth_ time? Pikmin 3's crappy explanation was stretching my disbelief, and rebooting it sidesteps that problem entirely and allows for some cool new plot threads. Honestly, I think Pikmin 4 is much better off as a reboot than it would be if they had to pull another justification for Olimar's presence out of their asses. Pikmin 3 really does have the worst story. 8:10 But why even go in the _vicinity_ of the planet, let alone get stranded? Are you saying it's gonna magnetize him all the way over from Hocotate? I'm gonna have to _hard_ disagree with your take. Honestly, Pikmin doesn't need a Ganon/Bowser-like main antagonist. The Emperor Bulblax and Titan Dweevil were so great because they were just creatures that the crew ran into; Emperor Bulblax was just doing its usual hunting method until it started getting more desperate, and the Titan Dweevil does naturally hoard objects, but Louie was messing with its behavior somehow because he didn't want to leave the planet. There doesn't need to be a grand evil being that's the final boss of every game. There is a mystery as to what is causing everyone to crash, but it doesn't have to be some malevolent entity.

Fans always over exaggerated the importance of the wraiths. It was only relevant in Pikmin 3 and the idea that it was all going to build up to a big reveal in pikmin 4 and going be the big bad all along was always ridiculous to me. That being said when it comes to lore? I think miyamoto not caring about metroid was to that franchises benefit because if he doesn't care a franchise then usually that means the lore is consistent

There is a wraith in hey!pikmin, it's called the crammed wraith in stage 3-B and all it does is push Olimar and the pikmin away

"The Dog boss uses elemental attacks like the Plasmawraith" Or you know, like the Titan Dweevil. This game is basically a remaster of Pikmin 2 in many aspects, so it makes sense for the final boss to be "Louie controlling a very powerful creature and trying to kill for absolutely no reason" again

while i do think the reason for retcon is some belief of keeping story simple for newcomers or something i think thats so misguided by nintendo at the end of the day allit will create is more confusion with multiple timelines and potential bs like imagine "oh pikmin 5 is sequel to pikmin 4 but not to 3 and 6 is its own thing" and newcomers will come in with so what happened in pikmin1-3? this attitude makes it all so much more of a headache

I have a theory; Spoilers BTW In Pikmin 4, we meet 3 captains that are nearly identical to the Pikmin 3 captains and they hint at the events of the third game not happening. And since this game is a retelling of the first one in a way, then maybe we’ll see some kind of reimagining of Pikmin 3 with the Plasm Wraith, whether that be a new game or dlc.

I find it hilarious that the favorite game of a talking sock is Arms, the one game it could probably least reasonably play.

I just wanted more explanation on why so many people crash land on the same planet and no one just lands normally because something always goes wrong that makes them return like moss hitching a ride on olimar ship then forcing olimar back and only leaves him alone when he's with others and moss seemed very content with going with louie to continue to kidnap people but that's just my thoughts

considering what we know, I would love if Pikmin 5 acted as a sort of new version of Pikmin 3 if Pikmin 4 is meant to be a reimagining of Pikmin 1's events, but excluding Pikmin 2's events (the whole debt storyline), but adding in a Louie aspect to the story I could see Pikmin 5 as being a reimagining of Pikmin 3's events, but with alterations to fit in

my problem is how the trailers are "why is everyone crashing?" Pikmin 3 had a subplot of "why is olimar crashing?" Pikmin 4 is "Why have LIKE THIRTY PEOPLE CRASHED?" and the game never does anything about it

I imagine we’ll get an answer in Pikmin 5, since it’s implied Pikmin 3 happens after 4 in this new timeline, meaning 5 may continue the timeline and we’ll see the Plasm Wraith again.

My biggest problem is the 3 pikmin type limit. Not the limit, its how the game was made because of it. Before the game came out, I thought this was a good idea and would add challange. Instead, every area only has obstacles based around 3 pikmin types. This doesnt add challange, this limits the game and makes it easier. In pikmin 3, which had 5 types, every area had at least one obstacle/use for every type. This is what Pikmin 4 is missing.

My problem with Pikmin 4 was they build up this mystery around Moss so much I expected the final boss to be her in her true form. I felt she was helping Olimar and later Louie to further her own goal, and when I saw the final boss on youtube (I peaked just to see what it looked like) I thought it was her.

Have you done the "ultra spicy difficulty" aka no captain/ oatchi upgrades, can't use oatchi unless required, no using items on enemy's, (the only upgrades that can be allowed is charge/marching, and go here feature). Can only use the base commands. Example can't use gather Pikmin. Can't do olimar tale because it gives you the swallow ability

I'd never heard of the Plasm Wraith theory, but now that I've heard it I absolutely believe it's related to the Sirehound. If anything, the Plasm Wraith gained time powers and seeded the universe with Space Dogs, and that caused the timeline changes directly. If the Pikmin are involved with any conspiracy, I think it's that Leafling-ification and the leaf tail for dogs are caused by the same "parasite" that makes Bulbmin. Something in the PNF-404 ecosystem that makes suitable living beings dependent on the planet, maybe bioengineered by the onions themselves.

my only gripe with this game is that i can only have 3 types of pikmin with me at any time (aside from the caves), which made me really just keep ice, flying, and purples with me. making the game kinda to easy. if i was allowed all types at once i would do my bad habit of taking an equal amount of each. making the game harder for myself.

As someone who doesn't own a switch (or played pikmin 2-3-4 but love the games) I definately assumed that there was cannon lore just because of the number 4 that now makes me sad that there will eventuially be no reason to play 1-3.

Also, in accordance with the umibozu theory, if Pikmin 4 takes place around the same time that Pikmin 2 would naturally be, then the waterwraith would be the umibozu's current form! It just hasn't grown up into the plasm wraith yet! After all, do we know how much time is supposed to be in between Pikmin 2 and 3? Maybe it took that time to mature into the plasm wraith and in Pikmin 4, it simply hasn't had enough time to do that yet!

Nintendo certainly likes to blue ball the overarching storyline issues in their series by retconing things to an certain degree. Probably because they don’t want to write an potential “conclusion” in one of their IPs. Since that would potentially restrict what they can or cannot do in any future games.

I sincerely hate the fact they retconned the past games. It feels like such a slap in the face. I think they should have just focused on the Rescue Corp. and just ignore the past games largely. Pikmin 4 is seriously the almost perfect pikmin game. It fumbles in difficulty and certain mechanics i think are intrusive (auto lockon) but its story is the biggest disappointment as a long time fan. Pikmin 4 is still a solid 8 or 9 out of 10 but i will forever hold a grudge for how it treated the past games existence.

My main issue with the story is the fact that they don't even explain how Oatchi got a leaf tail. When I first saw that in early screenshots, I assumed there was going to be an explanation somewhere, maybe a cutscene where during the last Dandori battle where Oatchi fights with Moss and gets sucked into the Onion. Then I played through the game, and it just...happens. The camera literally just...pans over and reveals his leaf tail, and all the characters stupidly act like "lol when did that happen"

I wish that it didn't retcon the series to me it's not that big of a deal just a very strange decision since they literally just gave us access to the first to games. It least the final battle was epic!

I have a good amount of problems with Pikmin 4 (so much so I made a video about all of those problems) and the story is one of those problems. I did really enjoy my time with the game but it is not perfect. Even if Pikmin 4 is not a retcon there is no reason its placement in the timeline had to be so unnecessarily confusing. There is no reason it had to be like this. If the reason Nintendo made it so set apart from the previous games was to make it easier for audiences to come to this game, then why is there a four at the end of the title! It’s just stupid. There are a lot of people that played the first 3 games first before playing 4 because they like to play things in order. I know this because I was one of those people

What?! Pikmin 2's just a nightmare now?! That sucks. I guess Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto don't like Pikmin 2 all that much, so they're trying to erase it from history. That's a shame.

This is also part of why I feel a bit down on Pikmin 4. That and what I feel is a regression in game mechanics from Pikmin 3 and the heavy reliance on caves and dandori content.

this game didn't really need to take place in an alternate timeline but it's given me more than enough theory fuel to make up for that. although, it is possible that it takes place in the same timeline if you do some brain gymnastics. the seeds brought back in pikmin 3 might have had trouble growing in koppai's environment, causing another food shortage down the line. we've already seen the president rack up a new debt in pikmin 3 after clearing the old one in pikmin 2. olimar's narration is likely unreliable as well, since the events of olimar's shipwreck tale directly conflict with his journal, and in pikmin 3 it's not entirely clear if olimar remembers being kidnapped by the wraith, so his memory could have been permanently affected. even if it's a new timeline, we know that the waterwraith is an inter-dimensional being, and that hocotate has technology capable of communicating with other dimensions, so it's possible pikmin 5 could tie the two timelines together into one story.

I honestly was expecting leaflimar to have been an attempt by the plasm wraith at making one of its creature clones but of olimar to try track the real olimar down, grabbing castaways in case they happened to be him (I thought this up before the demo was out and showed him leafifying them) Accidentally including pikmin traits because it got smacked up a little too hard and mashed the memories of the event around until olimar was a type of pikmin in it's head Was genuinely a little disappointed it was just straight up olimar and not any flavour of fake copy

Holy shit fellow based ARMS enjoyed, like just for that alone! As for Pikmin 4, I can't help but also be slightly dissapointed that there was practically nothing done to pick up this intriguing mystery that Pikmin 3's ending left us with. Much like Kirby Star Allies, it left us with a huge change to the existing lore and storyline. To soft-reboot the story after a ten-year wait seems like a big missed opportunity. Imagine if the Wraith had used Olimar's love for dogs against him: I mean, we have to rescue Olimar again anyway, why not do something cool with that scenario? The Ancient Sirehound is an absolutely goated final boss though, probably the best one in the series

I honestly don’t even know if the Plasm Wraith in particular is responsible for all the crashes, but whatever is making it happen is *definitely* still at play here, there’s way too many castaways for only one to have landed somewhat properly. I don’t think we’ll ever get a proper explanation for the wraiths, and while I would love some elaboration, I appreciate that every game’s final boss is different, since the only real ‘main atagonist’ of the series is the planet’s ecosystem itself (Louie’s still on trial). No final battle is a struggle between good and evil, it’s fighting against the primal desires of an apex predator, whether that be to consume, to hoard, or to protect, and the only thing that makes the Plasm Wraith obviously different is the strange nature of its very existence, something it shares with the Waterwraith. Tl;dr I don’t think the Plasm Wraith was being implied to be anything special. The nature of the crash-inducing atmosphere isn’t pinned on anything in particular, and most of its actions can be chalked up to an innate desire to collect Olimar as a trophy or maybe protect him as its young. Answers on it would be nice, but I feel that way about a lot of things in Pikmin, and I don’t exactly expect it to answer the nature of the entire franchise by extension.

my only two problems with Pikmin 4 is its too easy I wish there was a difficulty setting and enemies don't respawn in the locations like they do in previous Pikmin games (I know they respawn in caves)

I’m fine with it being a retcon. Or if not a retcon a redo. What I mean is this game gives us time rewinding powers. I think that might be more than just a convenient gameplay mechanic for us, I think it might indicate that something on the planet rewound time to the end of Pikmin 1 and made it so Olimer couldn’t escape the planet. In any event this seems to be a timeline split like the ones Zelda fans are so familiar with, with Pikmin 2 taking place in a timeline where Olimer succeeds at getting off PNF404 and Pikmin 4 taking place in a timeline where he fails. Pikmin 3 may take place in both timelines since the inciting incident, the planet running out of food, isn’t dependent on Olimer escaping the planet. Alternatively it reminds me of Corpse Party. Specifically the part where anyone who escapes Heavenly Host Elementary will invariably be drawn back to it, seemingly bringing more people and spreading the curse. We saw that in 2 when both Louie and the President were drawn to the planet because of Olimer, and in 4 Olimer’s distress signal ended up drawing in a lot of people. I think my biggest complaint is the last dungeon is basically really boring, especially since you can leave any time and come back with Pikmin perfectly suited to each challenge. It’s a pretty far cry from the Formidable Oak in 3 and the Dandori challenges to get the white and purple onions made a much more enjoyable final dungeon. Also I’m hoping they add something like the treasure hunt missions in 3’s DLC.

my theory: this game is TOTALLY getting DLC. The ending doesn't feel... final... to me... there are some loose ends that definitely need tied. They can't just NOT talk about the ship crashing stuff after poking fun at it so much through the entire game!

I have a new theory actually, so the water wraith is said to be between dimensions, it wouldnt be farfetched to say that something similar is the case with its plasm wraith cousin. Now Moss has been shown to kind of just go with the flow, specifically when Louie found her. She doesnt really understand what's going on, it makes sense because she's a dog. So here's my theory... what if the plasm wraith *is moss?* Idk somehow Moss gets turned into the plasm wraith and is stuck between dimensions. She smells Olimar's ship entering the atmosphere, so she causes it to crash, because I guess she can. She then just wants to be with Olimar. This would still keep the fact that the plasm wraith caused Olimar's crash, and keep the other games in the timeline to have meaning. Who knows maybe the plasm wraith is the cause for all of these crashes in this game just an evil one before it becomes Moss that crashes *everyone*

It's not really a retcon. It IS a separate timeline/alternate story, but one in which all 4 games fit into. They make several strong but indirect mentions to Pikmin 2 happening, and a few light teasers regarding pikmin 3 (Koppai being on the brink of starvation, the treasure log for the memories music box, etc.). If Pikmin 2 happens in essentially the same way as normal, there's nothing stopping Pikmin 3 from happening as it would. The events leading to these games would be a bit different (Olimar would already know about Purple and white pikmin prior to Pikmin 2, the Koppaites wouldn't have to send out sparrows, etc.) but the games themselves should happen in the same fashion.

I just wish the enemies would respawn on the maps. We have the caves, but I want to use my new Onions and power-uos above ground.

This has to be explain, to many crashes and castaways, Oliman hints at the end that this maybe wasn't an accident. Also Olimar said during the intro that having two accident is already uncommon, this time we got like 2 dozen diffetent ships, way too many. The Rescue Corp, if they are a decent organization, would need to investigate the cause of so many ship crashes, maybe pikmin 5 or, more likely, a DLC, a rescue corp research team will investigating the incident, this could lead to more info about the umibozu theory. Nintendo loves to put folklore reference in games (specialy japanise), so if they don't do this, it will be a big miss oportunity.

I also think the retcon is somewhat unfortunate but there is evidence against it, like for example the fact that olimar mentions bulbmin in his logs despite them not appearing in Pikmin 4. But if the retcon is true, it's just sad that Olimar and Hocotate Freight never went through all those wacky/dark situations. And we waited 10 years for Miyamato to be like, remember all those old games you played and loved.. well forget about them because they never happened!

While my "Make the next Smash game all about the villains" ass is a bit disappointed the Plasma Wraith didn't get to officially take the title of Pikmin's Bowser, I will admit that Louie makes a much more compelling main antagonist and rival from a character perspective as the ultimate yang to Olimar's yin. Olimar is a hardworking family man who gets tasks done, and even if he's chucking the Pikmin around his boots are still there on the ground right alongside them. Louie, meanwhile, would rather be riding atop a bio-mechanical death spider or nuclear zombified Nintendog of heavy metal than actually doing work. The more aggressive dandori AI is a bit of ludo narrative dissonance, but I think with a little help in the story department from EPD5 or Monolithsoft, Louie can become a truly compelling villain. The penultimate Nintendo villain in representing the sin of Sloth.
