Happy Military Monday to you all!
There were a few things I forgot to mention. The Army Pinks and Greens were heard to debut Apr 2020 and this is my opinion on them so far. I received the first iteration of them so I'm sure changes will be made on the next ones.
I cannot lie, this is my first time talking in front of a camera. I was a little shook. I kept stumbling over words and had to cut things short. BUT I HAVE TO START in order to get better! :)
Also, I see that my tie is a little too tight. haha isss all good.
&& my belt on my coat is a little obscure. Forgive me for that.
Anyway, happy MILITARY MONDAY!
DON'T FORGET TO TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THEM!!

This uniform is only great by comparison to what came before it. The real WW2 uniform, which this is far from) was much greater. Even the color of this uniform is not correct. Check my other comment where I go into detail on just on differences between this uniform caps and the original WW2 caps. The original US Army WW2 was the envy of the world, but the Army, in all it’s ineptitude, even with samples in their hands were still unable to duplicate it.

You can actually say the same thing about the Army blues. They were adopted for optional wear in 1928, and were almost unchanged from that time until they were cannibalized to make the garbage ASU in 2010. But the 3rd Infantry Regiment -- who guard the Tomb -- still wear them, because they know the ASU is garbage. Also, the Army blues which were adopted in 1928 were simply a blue Army uniform which had been in use starting all the way back in 1902, with only a couple of minor changes added after that, but which had their wear suspended indefinitely after the US got involved in World War I in 1917. So essentially, the Army blues have been around since about 1902, with only minor changes made since since then, but were temporarily shelved between the years 1917 and 1928. And unfortunately, since 2010, only the 3rd Infantry Regiment have been deemed cool enough to get to wear them.

@@cpope625 you'd have to go back to before WW2 to find the dress blue uniform that was actually a bluish color, along with the blue barracks cover. I'm not sure when the Corps authorized the change to the belt buckle depicting the EGA, when I served, that was only for SNCO's and Officers. You also didn't graduate in blues, they were not an issued uniform during basic training, and if you wanted one you had to buy it yourself, or be assigned to special duty like barracks or sea duty, which just meant more cost to upkeep and maintain for wall locker inspections since you immediately replaced all the brass with anodized types.

@@KyraDorn Please, stop calling them 'pinks n greens'. There’s no pink on the uniform. However, WWI/II officers had a slight discoloration in their pants that in the right angle of light...gave off a earthy pink undertone. This has to do with the technology dyeing system they had back in those days. I always hated wearing that pizza cutter hat. But I would wear it before wearing the black beret. Lol. Army blues were a throwback to the Civil War era. When used only for state ceremonies or weddings, they looked pretty sharp, but as a regular dress uniform, they were a bit much. The pinks and greens were so named because the trousers and shirt were more of a salmon color (a hint of pink) and the tunic was a deep olive green.

I welcome the garrison cap again, it was about time to correct the error of the black beret that make everybody look as if they were ready to sell girl scout cookies. By the time Elvis served the pink and brown had been replaced by dark green. Prior to the dark green uniforms era, soldiers in the army never wore pink and greens with a belt, they wore only olive green. Officers wore pink and brown and the short jacket as well.

Travelin' Ted as someone currently in, the officer’s uniform is what the pinks and greens were, and they were actually called that by service members then. And they were called pinks and greens because over time the trousers and shirts would fade into a pink-ish khaki color. It’s an issue they’ve corrected with this version, but it bears a greater similarity to the WWII officer’s dress uniform than enlisted.

Finally, this was a great uniform and it is good to see it again! The material is better and it is great to see the Army went first class on this. It is well worth the cost. We made much less in the 70's and you had to get several different types of uniforms and it was even worse for female soldiers. We wound up spending much more in real terms when you considered our pay. Many of us got some of our uniforms from the Thrift Shop so that we would not have to dig so far into our pockets and the clothing allowance never covered all the expenses. The Army Uniform that followed the Pink and Greens was bad and that is what I had when I first came in. My relatives who served in World War II (my uncles and step father) looked so much sharper than we did in the 70's. The the changes after that until now went from bad to worse. "The Blues" belong back in a formal setting and that change back to tradition is really welcome news. As a retiree, I am so happy to see our young soldiers and officers back in a uniform that makes them look sharp. It really improves Our Army's appearance to me. What a fantastic improvement. Army Strong!

Josue Nieves you’re right, the “manufactured” look isn’t natural and it really looks silly. The original ones had that crushed look because of the pilots and aircrews who wore headsets over their hats and it looked more natural. Non flying personnel usually kept the stiffener in their hats and it kept its shape.

Really proud of you Troop. You crack me up and are such a girl. That's really outstanding because it shows a Soldier can be tough as nails and still herself. My compliments and very well done Troop. Now to answer your question by a Marine from 50 years ago. The slit pocket on the trousers and skirt is a "change pocket" purposefully designed to carry coins, paper money, pocket watches, etc. During World War II coin money was worth a lot so Army, Navy and Marine dress uniforms had them. Also Female Servicemembers wore smaller patches and chevrons to cancel out their rank being down at their elbows which you righfully addressed. The reason your uniform is bunching up in you're a woman and it's not tailored to your individual body. It's supposed to be a smooth all around fit that restricts upper arm movement if it's too tight and looks baggy if it's too loose. The belt is always a big key because you loosen it for full freedom of movement and pull it snug for a smooth look. Your two covers are the old classic standards, barracks (round) and garrison (flat). Barracks is the more formal while garrison is the most practical exactly like you mentioned. You lay the garrison flat in your hand and then tuck the back into your jacket or trouser belt so 1/4 to 1/3 shows over the top. If your uniform fits correctly it will never fall out and you'll feel it if it does. Your barracks cover has what's known as a "saddle" which is where the ends droop. You never want them to just hang because that gives a sloppy appearance that definitely gets noticed. Your barracks cover comes with a round metal band that fits into the visor and gives the top it's shape yes? Simply buy a little larger size metal band and force it into the smaller cover where you bend the sides down. Gives you a class act look of maintaining proper military smartness while looking totally cool at the same time. Naturally you play the game and wear the correct size band for formal ceremonies and such because you're already knowin' you're cool and don't need a saddle cover to prove it. Staff Noncommissioned Officers set the pace, never follow it. The reason I know all this is we Marines kept our World War II style uniforms during Nam while Army changed their's. Pinks and Greens were Officers while Enlisted wore the same matching trousers and jacket. My Uncles and a lot of guy's Dad's showed us Army greens while we were growing up and I remember my Dad's Navy dress blues had the same coin pocket as Army greens. You put a lot of effort into your videos so I'm just adding my small part to help support all you Hard Chargers still standing the watch. Keep doing what you're doing and stand tall Troop. Really proud of you. Hooah - Oorah. Semper Fi

The Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps Class Alpha dress uniform from the 1940s forward has been "pinks and greens," which is to say khaki shirt, dark green "blouse" (coat), and pearl gray -- pink -- trousers. It's a good-looking outfit, and I'm glad the Ags brought it forward all this time. Another A&M Corps uniform is a dark green shirt with pearl gray trousers, which in my time was allowed only for juniors and seniors. Thank you for your post, it's a great appraisal.

I think these were a good upgrade. Coming in as a Cadet I actually like the idea that the Army has its own service uniform. Considering for awhile we didn't, but the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Air Force had proper service uniforms. They're really good for another reason. Sentimental value. I think its good to see that the country as well as the army is being reminded of the greatest generation and how in uniforms much like these, black and white, woman and man all fought to push back the Axis Powers and restore democracy to the world. Didn't matter back then what you were or where you came from. We're Americans through and through and these new uniforms sum that up perfectly.

The beret was nice until they started putting funny creases in them and wearing them three sizes too small. The fact that the pentagon contracted with a Chinese firm to supply them didn't help, either.

If you form.the beret properly, it looks good. If you look at 82nd, 173rd, 75th rangers, etc., you notice their berets look practically the same. Formed appropriately and not half-ass. It's because they take pride in it. I've seen some really fucked up berets because they don't take the time or care to shape it

My father wore that uniform during WW2, so it has a place in my heart. I actually think female soldiers look best in trousers, is there a preference between trousers or skirt, and is either one mandatory under certain circumstances?.

This uniform is a huge improvement. The "Dress" cover looks too floppy on the sides, and as she mentioned the rank appears to be very low on the sleeves. Other than that it looks great. Hopefully the Army will keep it for a few decades. It may even help with recruiting.

Extremely SHARP! As the services move away from the ridiculous “women’s” uniforms that were not only unattractive and often difficult to wear, but set them apart from the males, making the whole idea of a military which is to conform, hence the reason for wearing uniforms to distinguish one service from another, a stupid reason to then have the genders look entirely different. With the new uniforms, men and women all now look like part of the same team! Looking great to boot!

Good muzzle/ blade edge awareness on those knife hands, big sargn’t! You didn’t flag your battle buddy. Setting a good example. Reminding us that safety is everyone’s responsibility! If the whole army had such dedication, privates all over the world wouldn’t lose hours off their lives to the dreaded safety briefings on Friday. 😂

Staff Sgt, as a former U.S. Navy sailor, thank you for your service and I wish you and your family well. I understand your position on people not knowing branch when they see the uniform. I feel that citizens should know the basic uniforms of the people who protect them. I joined the Navy and people thought I was a milkman in the summer or a part of the Luftwaffe in Winter. We had winter working blues back then (2004). To me, it shows an awareness if people know what branch you are in. Either way, look forward to hearing more from you and let us know how you like the uniform.

The Pinks and Greens dress uniform of the 40's era soldiers brings us back to a highly romanticized period of time, the big band music of Glenn Miller and others, the movies of Humphrey Bogart and more, the enlisting of young Americans into the military show patriotism and the simplistic nature of the times without computers, cell phones, pay per view or 8000 pages of IRS tax codes. It's great to see these beautiful uniforms come back into fold. In my time we had the nasty Khaki uniforms and the complete greens. The Army needs to stay with one friggin uniform for all and put all that money into something else useful

A lot of is who served in the 60s and 70s had also recommended moving away from the green “ business suit” and going back to the old WWII style and color uniform. Instead all we got was everything under the sun that included something black. Black berets, black raincoats, black British designed sweaters, black waistcoats. Then came the change from poplin to green shirts with the epaulets. Then came the black Corfam shoes, then came the black birth control glasses. They did away with a very sharp uniform-the khakis. The move to the BDUs was another mistake. The old OG 107s were perfectly adequate for general garrison duty. Too many iterations of BDU, ACU, etc. Why are our guys wearing combat uniforms in garrison anyway. It galls me to see West Point cadets wearing these instead of their traditional gray uniforms. And I don’t buy this bullshit that it “connects” them better to the Army they will later serve in! Bullshit. The latest travesty was the move to the blues being worn as a daily dress uniform. Like AF General Mc Peak, this was Schoomaker trying to leave his imprint on the Army. Thank God someone on the Army Uniform Board finally woke up!

Late comment, but. In regards to your rank position, It's that 1st Cav patch, The First Cavalry Unit Patch is the only patch in the Army that is authorized to adjust the position of the Rank Patch according to Army Regulation 670-1 and DA Pam 670-1 , normally the SSI is located 1/2 between the Shoulder and Elbow, but the 1st Cav SSI is so large the Rank is adjusted down. That pocket in the pants is most likely a trow back to when pocket watches were carried, or it might be a coin pocket.

I served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 with an early out a month before my discharge date. It was the green and kaki uniforms that caused me to join the Army. I did not like the changes in uniform that came after my discharge. However, I do like the new stylish uniform, it looks Army all the way.
