Mr. Serpent He is just doing the right thing which is hiding his power level. The dude lived in Japan for many years, thereat no way he is not a weaboo.
I am very much non-conservative, but you have a very pleasant and nuanced vibe, really enjoy it. Makes me remember to be a bit critical of my own political agenda too.
I'm so used to politics in the us being so fucking awful constantly that its so refreshing to have it be pleasant. its also nice to have a conservative acknowledge climate change
My main criticism of anime is how American animation seems to have totally abandoned hand-drawn and cel animation because they don't want to compete with anime.
Japanese-made cel animation is cheaper to produce than American-made because of cheaper outsourcing and a more prominent local crop of animators. Animators in America go to CG or lose cultural respectability, but mangaka turned animation director is a very respectable career path in Japan. It's just sad that the best examples of Disney-esque cel animation studios today are Ghibli in Japan and Cartoon Saloon in Ireland. And what little cel animation we still have is crap like The Killing Joke, that pukes all over twenty years of animation history. It's all very depressing for an animation fan like me.
J.J. Your parents must be very proud of them. As a Canadian father of five, I think you are an amazing young man. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to create your entertaining and educational videos.
@@aaronshan51 that isn’t a neoliberal. Think of it this way. A conservative values the rich elite. A leftist values the worker A neoliberal values the consumer. Neoliberals are willing to regulate and control businesses, but aren’t necessarily concerned with workers rights because the primary goal is to drive down the price of products for the sake of consumerism. This means they are willing to enter massive trade deals, talk down the use of unions, etc... however also they are willing to artificially drive down prices and break up monopolies if they hurt the consumer. Also, finally, social issues are used by both sides as a method of motivating idiotic bases who have no idea what they are talking about.
@@537monster I'm talking about policies here not ideology. From a historical standpoint neoliberals have passed policies that favor the free-market and support progressivism. Edit: Conservatism is also a moral philosophy not a political one.
@@lukeg8466 Liberal in Europe are people who want lower government involvement in general. Things such as the economy (seen as right-wing) but also in social issues (seen as left-wing.) So they are generally described as centrists.
@@mr.starfish4965 Not as hardcore as the libertarians are in the US (like not wanting any government at all, such as no driver licencees and stuff.) But there are some similarities.
I am left leaning in my views and was a bit shocked when you stated you were a conservative. Having said that, I really appreciate your delivery of facts and opinions and think you bring extremely valid points to the table. Keep up the great content!
These fucking liberals smh smh I'm conservative and never considered him left leaning i thought he was centrist and was suprised he was conservative other coments want to say stuff like some would consider this or that but of course some would in such a large country
Well the issue is an issue of relativity if the status quo or the Overton window of a certain country's political system is left leaning then the slight hint of right wing beliefs would be extremism same applies to bernie he is mostly a democratic socialist and the right brands him as a communist so its all relative in my country which is culturally conservative we have to abide by many cultural rules (not me lol) even the slight belief that sex between two consenting adult males is fine is considered far left here and called an "Americanism" so again its all about the status quo in rhe country wether the issue is political economical or social
I don't agree with your political leanings, BUT I appreciate that you actually explain your reasons and you have legitimate concerns and opinions about the current government. I'm typically left leaning but even I could agree with some of Harper's initiatives such as his northern policy.
Malcolm L It's assholes like you that ruin the world. He literally said that he respects JJ's point of view and agrees with him on some topics. Then you've gotta just act like a complete fucking dipshit
Yea about the fav Canadian prime minister I don't agree with him I thought Wilfrid Laurier or Mackenzie king(my favs) but same as u appreciate his explanations for his reasons!
Alex Gauld he’s probably an extremist American. I can only respect foreign conservatives in western countries, because they aren’t usually so extreme as they are in the rural south where I’m from. They seem not nearly as bad when you are exposed to people who want to “bring back the hitler days” and also throw women in jail for 30 years for getting an abortion. Or when you get harassed by those same people simply for believing that universal suffrage should be, universal, all citizens.
@@therenegadekautsky1423 That should not happen to anyone. I know the politicians in the United States like to divide the people for votes but this is the result : extremist groups. I am scared that this is coming to Canada because of the conservatives. Andrew Scheer wants to do the exact same thing as Trump because he has no original ideas. Also there is a rise in white nationalism in Canada right now for this reason. Nazi groups are popping up everywhere
Something I've noticed as an LGBT conservative: People I talk to online do seem like the homogenous left-wing outspoken types you'd expect, but in the 3D world I've seen a lot of diversity. The majority of them don't care, or don't hate me for my views, and I was even dating a guy who turned out to be a Conservative!
I dont want to support a comnunity based on what we’re born with instead of what we do necessarily in the first place, but socially conservative also really shouldn’t contradict with lgbt like at all imo.
@@MsZsc Social Conservativism's entire basis, in the United States at least, is treating LGBT people as second class citizens. It is the equivalent of a black person joining the Klu Klux Klan. Just for example, social conservatives want to make gay marriage illegal. Married couples are afforded legal protections for insurance purposes if a spouse dies. If just your partner dies, you are S.O.L. Social conservatives push "gay conversion therapy" programs and removal of protections against discrimination for LGBT people.
I think that the relationship between the US and Canada is quite similar to the relationship of Germany (my country) and Austria. They share most values, have a very similar history with various overlaps and the Austrians are extremely sceptical of their big brother just like the Canadians.
Honestly knew nothing about Canada and thought it was just one of the commonwealth countries (not to sound like a super pretentious Brit) and that it was just a store brand America. Now through watching your videos I’m actually looking forward to visiting your country in the summer and actually know about Canada. It’s also good that you’re pro-American since we’re a rare breed outside America.
I never completely understood the hatred of America, it seems to be pretty alright (although it's a lot more centralised than Canada) in terms of domestic policies (a very strong constitution). The foreign policies that presidents have enacted is probably why people hate America. I can definitely see why Iraqis or Afghan would hate the US.
You are pretentious and a liar. Do all the the rest of the commonwealth have a Arctic Tundra. Canadians have become like Americans, most dont even know what the commonwealth is.
Are we not renting a warm rock that floats in an endless vacuum? Thinking about that keeps life's problems in perspective. The wisdom of "vacuum" does not occur to many. Or it could be a mistake.

Exactly! I'm lean right , and it's a great party, but some people in Washington are soiling the whole party, and putting up a fake image of what conservatism stands for. I Just wish both Dems and Reps would stop bashing each other on a normal bases, and stop making conspiracies of each other, and instead talk smartly (like J.J.) about what they really stand for. I mean I don't really judge anybody on their views, unless they are being harmful. Won't say who's soiling the party though...... [inject bleach here]
Canadian conservatives are like european ones, they are less about small government as a whole and more about fiscal policy (and aren't fucking religious head bangers)
effawefweafawefwefwfqwWQEWEFEYHTYKJYUKUT American conservatives claim to be about small government but they’re pro war anti immigration anti abortion anti drugs and (to an extent) anti voting
8:05 Just gotta say, Tibet is a somewhat different case as they were pretty brutally annexed by China, and all separatist movements within the region have been violently suppressed thus far.
It is kinda typical of a conservative to not really know anything about foreign countries except for the really important ones. Tibetans and Palestinians are both pretty clearly oppressed
He’s said before that he’s socially conservative on the large society wide scale, but more liberal and unconcerned on the individual level. As in he’d say that Christianity and family values and other conservative ideals are important to a society, but he has no problem with individuals who disagree or live differently than that
Hahaha this is the 5th vid of your I’ve watched. I didn’t realize you were gay or conservative. You’re jovial and likable. I look forward to more of your content. Peace
i've always been a far left kind of guy thanks in part to being lgbtq+, coloured and autistic but the way you approach politics has for the most part always been admirable and leaves me wishing more conservatives were like you. (though i have to say its very hard to understand why anybody outside of america doesn't think it's a broken mess, even without foresight of the current pandemic's role in the nation. either way, if you still think it's fine/have faith in it to this day then i cant do much but respect that.)
Yeah. Something which really struck me was the way JJ went to family planning as his example of a way the Canadian Conservatives and the US Republicans differ, when my immediate thought was that the Canadian Conservatives, at least officially, support Universal Single Payer Healthcare. Which is a MASSIVE issue which touches, and sometimes defines, the life of every citizen.
Supporting the pride or BLM community should have anything to do with politics but that's the situation were in identity politics has ruined America and created more division the unity and now the Republicans and Democrats cant agree on things that should be obviously true and should cause debates like gay rights or gender stuff that I rly dont care about and want to move from.
I watched a ton of your videos, and had NO idea you identity as conservative; that's a good thing. Even though personally I am conservative, it's nice knowing that you aren't just throwing around your views haphazardly
this is so nice, conservative youtubers in America receive so much hate and criticism in their comments and by celebrities, but it's so nice to see the parties living in harmony in Canada with nobody really hating
It depends on the region, in Toronto and the surrounding areas, you’d be right. But rurally, and very much in Quebec and the prairies, there is a massive hatred for certain parties (conservative in the 1st and liberal in the 2nd)
I mean, that’s because most conservative youtubers have a regular output of videos that are just “EPIC COMPILATION OF FEMINIST LIBTARD SJW’S OWNED” with the same five clips of screaming college kids, but JJ actually makes thoughtful analysis of issues.
just started watching this channel, it might have the most civil, open minded comment section i've seen. people disagreeing without being hateful, it's just fantastic.
Found your channel last week, read your articles, went on a binge of your videos, followed you on instagram and twitter. All I can say is that I can never possibly support all that you believe but you're one of those who I would choose to disagree with. Great content, and absolutely adorable way of delivery, I'm glad I found this. Hope to consume more of your content in future, love from India!
Harper was my favorite PM as well. I think he had the most honest understanding of Canada because he was the first PM not from the Laurentian areas (Quebec, Ottawa and Toronto).
Harper is my 2nd. My favorite would be Mulroney. He pretty much saved Canada with NAFTA and went against all the apocalyptic predicaments. Canada would otherwise be an economic disaster just like in the 80s. Too bad he came up with the GST afterward which ruin his political life and the old PCP. The irony is the Liberals managed to put Canada's finances in order in the 90s because of the economic growth from NAFTA.
Congrats on 50k!! Even tho I disagree with you sometimes or the stuff you say just outright annoys me, you are a very knowledgeable and intelligent guy who avoids bias and knows a lot about what he's talking about. I just cant hate you lol. Again congrats!! :D
Been subscribed since you were at 6k and went inactive to launch your site, been an active viewer ever since. Although I don't share all of your political opinions I still find you to be a very entertaining and informative RU-vidr, Keep it up! Next up--100k
I’m a left leaning moderate, who disagrees with you at times, but you are certainly one of the people I most admire and respect on this platform. You’re sensible, logical, and totally un afraid to say what you believe. Love from NZ!!
conservatism is a fairly broad word that can mean different things in different contexts. generally when people talk about it in contemporary western politics they’re referring to broadly very moderate liberal and right-libertarian thinking, often called paleoconservatism, but of course there are other sub denominations with very little in common with the paleocons below the surface level, like neocons
@Screaming Chickpea Trust me, most people on our side are glad to have you. A lot of news outlets, tv shows, etc make conservatives seem bad, but really most conservatives just want a free and fast world where the government isn't making slow decisions and regulations on everything. I personally identify as a republican with libertarian-leaning values, as most do. Most republicans are pro LGBT, pro minority, but the media spins us in a different light. We just want what is best for everyone, not ourselves personally (which sounds strange because the other far end of the spectrum is communism). The reason why we don't protest race and get triggered at every single thing is that we don't see color. We see every person as the same, and deserves the same rights. We don't believe in any privilege as many white people are very poor and many black people are very rich, very successful, and very famous. Just because someone is one race doesn't mean that the rules don't apply to them, or that they get better things than another (that's why we don't agree with minority safe spaces, because that's segregation). What you have, money, home, car, even family, is not a construct of race, gender, or sexual preference, it's from what kind of a person you are, what you are willing to do to achieve your goals, and how hard of a worker you are. Everyone has the ability to pull themselves from poverty through studying hard, joining the armed forces, or working long hours to feed the children.
I've primarily subscribed to your channel because you discuss your opinions in a logical and sensible manner. I'm more left leaning and I don't have any conservative friends( I live in downtown Toronto) so I felt this would give me a window into understanding the opposite side.
I think you're probably at least partly right about independents movements these days, but I think it's important to acknowledge the very real oppression China puts on Tibet. Catalonia, Scotland, Quebec and others might get the short end of things or an occasion minor middle finger, but Tibet's culture, religion, and even many of its individuals face a real existential threat from China's policies and actions in the region
4:30 The same with my country, Austria and our bigger neighbour, Germany. We speak the same language, we have a quite similar culture, so we have our hardships with differenciating from Germany. The Austrian identity largely consists of "being-non german". Thus, we are looking for everything non-german, then we identify with it, considering it as "typically Austrian."
I will add my voice to the many that were surprised to find out you were conservative, because you do a very good job of delivering unbiased, journalistic reports of a lot of things. Which I really appreciate! Although it kind of made me think you’d be a centrist 😂 I myself am not conservative but I’m actually a bit glad to know that you have a channel with which I can engage respectfully and happily despite differences in politics! Even when talking about politics!!
As a Texan, I can't believe that I agree with a Canadian more than that of an average American on some of these takes. Besides the anime take, you alright.
The problem I have with the Republican party is their hateful rhetoric, while I'm not conservative I have more respect for the Canadian conservative party, They don't seem as hateful.
As a Canadian Tory, I appreciated a lot of this. Just saying your view on the monarchy is kind of...lacking. Modern day Canadian culture and political traditions stem are rooted in Canada's constitutional connection to the Crown.
First off, thanks for responding! I appreciate that with as many comments that you get that it's not easy to respond to all of them. Secondly, I disagree with your disagreement :) Regardless, keep up the good work. Love your channel.
You don't see a problem with monarchy? Even with the obvious contradiction of values? Monarchism is at opposition with liberal democracies. The fact that some people are born with more value is inherently undemocratic and against our very values as a liberal democracy. It's sickening to still have the British flaunt themselves over us. We are our own country. This is but only a small sample of why monarchism in Canada is horrible.
I disagree with that, entirely. The monarchy has evolved as an institution far more than, say, the US Constitution has. And no one flaunts anything. Canada's political traditions, and many of its cultural traditions, are directly connected to our ties to the British Empire and the Crown. Sorry you don't agree. I doubt I'll change your mind, but you're not changing mine. Sorry.
You disagree that monarchy is antithetical to a liberal democracy? Inherited positions are INHERENTLY opposed to the concept of egalitarianism. Monarchy does not evolve. The only reason you think that is because the British monarchy didn't want to be killed off like other royals in Europe. The US's constitution is one of the best written documents for any constitution in the world. Our CCRF would be better if it actually meant anything (it's not guaranteed in any way). And I know I will never change any monarchists mind, because they have this weird sense of nostalgia for the royal family. No matter the (valid) criticism(s) of monarchy, not one monarchist will ever concede. Kind of funny.
JJ, I'm gay and conservative (not crazy right wing though). Maybe that's why I like your videos so much. Without sounding cheap, I'd totally take you out on a date because you'd make such a handsome and intelligent boyfriend! (Though why you would want an Australian boyfriend is beyond me!) And to all non LGBT people - yeah, not all of us gays are extreme left wing. I'd say about 60% of the gay guys I know are conservative/libertarian.
Not all conservatives are social conservatives. Fiscal conservatives / libertarians actually use their brain, unlike so-cons (probably the most moronic people in existence, more stupid than commies).
I'm conservative when it comes to matters of economics, defence, immigration, upholding the rule of law, etc. but I'm liberal in terms of same sex marriage (though I support any church not wanting to conduct ceremonies). I'm also a big supporter of universal healthcare (it makes economic sense to have a healthy populace) and free education. The cost benefit ratio of free healthcare and education make perfect sense.
Not in America. Canadian conservatives are really liberal compared to American conservatives, so all of our gays get pushed to the far left bc they’re the only ones who support them.
Perhaps more of a 'classic liberal'. If I were Canadian, I wouldn't be voting for Trudeau, to put it that way. Though I do admire some of the work of Australia's great intellectuals (is that an oxymoron?) like Germaine Greer and Barry Humphries. They've been persecuted in the UK lately for their take on the transgender pronoun issue and for criticising third wave feminism. A lot of modern day feminists seem to forget that Greer was at the very forefront of the second wave.
While I personally disagree with your opinion on Trudeau's effectiveness (I believe he has made very wise choices bolstering the economic infrastructure of the country), I find it very refreshing to see a Conservative who isn't nonsensical with his beliefs, and one that acknowledges some of the right wing bias. You are quite politically literate, and are very passionate! Also, no way Harper was Canada's best PM ;) Subbed!
Very much appreciate hearing your point of view even if I don't agree. I've learned a lot from your channel and appreciate your informative and neutral energy.
It's amazing how exponential growth works, once you start getting traction you pick up so much speed. This is 3 years after the video has been posted and the channel is nearly 11 times that size now.
What are your thoughts on Tommy Robinson? And the happenings in the UK. Also congrats from Minnesota basically “little Canada”(Or Little Sweden,Norway,Denmark, etc.) Also: Thanks J.J for being such a a intellectual, gay, conservative! You are one of the only you-tubers I can relate to and I am so thankful that a great man like you, is getting the attention he deserves!
What's happening in the UK? Please tell me, a British person. Tommy Robinson is behind bars for tampering with a case - undermining the right to a fair trail. There's no conspiracy to shut him up. He was already on a suspended sentence for this and was warned he would face prison if he tried it again, which he knowingly did.
+Max Brene Yeah the white nationalist who wants an ethnostate where everyone thinks like him is definitely not the authoritarian one. You people are pathetic.
What happened to Tommy Robinson is how we know that society is regressing. I've been called alarmist for my thoughts, but it's pretty clear that the authoritarianism on display is pretty alarming. #FreeTommy
What does it say about me that as soon as I saw the wartmamu question I immediately knew what that was from. Fun fact: the M on the machine the shyguys ride in World 4-1 of Suoer Mario Bros 2 stands for Mamu.
Good video, but we have to be clear: Its not all quebecois who want to separate from Canada. So don't put them all together. Like me, [as a quebecois], if Quebec separate, I would move to Canada Because I identify me more as a Canadian.

One thing I think people need to dispel is that you don’t have to be ONE specific ideology. For instance, I’m very left regarding healthcare, I’m a little more stereotypically liberal on social issues, I’m libertarian regarding the free market, and I’m more conventionally liberal regarding regulations on Wall Street.
Had to get past the differences in political views but at this point I don’t care, you are respectful about it and take into consideration about others as well, congrats on 50k man! Well deserved!
