I endured all kinds of whacky gambits on this channel to finally encounter this gold mine. The Portsmouth Gambit is soooo good and reliable. I basically adapted 50+% of Jonathan's opening repertoire over time I guess xD
This is a fear that I'm familiar with. I played against Johnathan in a viewer tournament he had about three years ago. I was on a French-playing kick, and it was right after he made his first video on the Orthoschnapp. I had watched the video once, and it had slipped my mind until the third move, when he played c4. I ended up resigning about fifteen moves later. I thought I remembered the refutation, and ended up blundering my queen. When the game started and I realized who I was matched up against, an impressive stream of expletives flew out of my mouth unbidden. For such a kind and friendly person, he's genuinely terrifying I'm the world of sixty-four squares. 😂
Hey Jonathan, love the videos! Been trying out the wagon gambit myself but opponents don't always go into it. In order to still use a gambit, and having the option to transpose into the wagon, I've been looking into the Pyrenees gambit (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 b5!) Have you heard of it before, and you think it has any merit at all or is it very obscure for a reason? Often opponents only half accept it after 3.cxb5 a6 and play Nc3, thus opening up to wagon possibilities :)
I've started trying the Portsmouth Gambit out with some pretty good success, it's a lot of fun (which makes it a pretty good success on another level)!
