Entering my college years, I had a buddy who was heavy into computers. He knew his stuff and showed me the latest thing he was working on. He was downloading Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin. He was super excited about getting his new modem, which would let him download the entire album from a BBS in only roughly 18 hours.
Him: turns on mac PC: Configuring Windows Updates... 47%complete... Mac: Gimme da os PC: 93%complete Mac: waits before windows is done updating so they can fight
They would say that it's on their "vintage" list and that it's against policy to work on it. Anything older than an iphone 6s gets rejected and apple's recommendation is to toss it out
@@RacecarsAndRicefish Yes, that is why I am fixing it myself, I have the schematics and the motherboard already examined. Looks like a few capacitors in the power supply need replacing.
I imagine him sitting there twiddling his thumbs, waiting for a major update to finish and thinking "my 30yo Mac updated faster than this... oh shit I still have that"
My grandparents nearly did in 97 when they went nearly bankrupt, they regretted it as they could have had millions. They thought they would fail originally as well.
LOL, not valves, actually transistors, resistors and capacitors, it was a power capacitor that blew up and made the noise. I intend to replace it as I now have the Circuit Schematics so I know what value it is.
@@andrewburrell4695 I know, I was just kidding LOL. I am an Amiga and Mac user myself. Also, I see you have many videos and tutorials on MSFS - I have all the iterations, since version 5.x, all original. I'm looking forward to get the FS2020, as soon as I can get a better machine. Have an awesome weekend, check six!
@@oopsallchromosomes8994 Windows downloads the updates to your computer in the background before actually updating. This is so if you lose wifi while it is updating, it can still finish updating.
Oh wow. This made me realize soon current gen stuff is gonna be so terribly old, and I might cry cuz memories when I see a windows 7 PC or a flash game or Minecraft or Wii or Xbox 360 or PlayStation 2
Yes! That's the familiar sound of my childhood! I did the same thing this year with my Amiga 500, she's turned 30 back in April, her older bro Mac already riding his 30's. But those sounds of FDD, the ticking and sudden rambles when we put the disquette in...I am sure you as well - know every little sound and crackle, we oftentimes exactly know what's going on just by listening to the computer! For example, upon providing a direct executive command, or loading a disquette: - it does a few fast ticks then makes a long loud one (like a fuckin goose) then continues the irregular silent ticking = load and/or execution successful - a few ticks then suddenly a complete silence = syntax error or command rejected / also disquette empty - few ticks, shorter milder "goose", then the silent repetitive and rhythmical ticking = command accepted but there's a bug / dusquette successfully loaded but the software bugged out - few ticks, then shorter milder goose (same as above) but then a sudden silence = the same as above, but the bug is much more serious - one tick, then silence, then one sudden and loud screech (or a goose) then just silence = hardware error / dusquette is damaged - same repetitive ticking on and on = much more serious hardware error / dusquette useless shoul be discarded - one barely audible tick then/or just silence = drive died And there are more. 🙂 Always the same, you couldn't go wrong by knowing them! 😄
The boot times have not changed at all although everything is much faster, including the SSD compared to the floppy drive ;-) but they just load more stuff at the beginning.
Oh man this takes me back. Such sweet machines. I still remember playing one of the first flight simulators on it. The images made up out of big fat pixels no more than a few lines, and that was the aeroplane. But it worked. Always...
I had one of those from 1987 to 1992. Oy! The pain of waiting endlessly. But, bonus, my ginormous external 20mg hard drive - expensive luxury back then. The keyboard looks clunky but typing on it was so satisfying! Clack, clack, clack - noisy but just felt great. Gratz on keeping yours pristine.
Back when those kinds Macintosh’s were new they were HELLA EXPENSIVE, they were like the price of a new Mac Pro! Edit: Man that is a lot of likes, thanks!
Blox Dog on what roblox, I mean like rust and modern warfare, you were complaining that your pc was not uploading videos and I’m definitely older than you, I was talking about what you can get now for less money, your really ducking stupid also not all PCs run 90fps, Your just lucky you have a pc, I had to save up and build mine.
I was born in the eighties and got to experience the first ever iPod. I remember friends asking me “what is that?” as I tried to explain that you could play music on it. Anyway, I grew up with every generation of Mac due to my dad owning a design studio and it was a child’s dream getting to see them and sometimes play on them. Today’s tech is way better, the magic has gone a little but it’ll be back in other forms... so yeah, just thought I’d share 🙂
Mac:Turns on Mac:How long I have been in coma. Me: I am afraid it has been 30 years. Mac : Proceeds to stare at his left mouse (which was gone). Mac: Abruptly shuts down Me: Mac you can't die on me, Mac Maaaccccc!!!
This computer knocked my socks off when I first played on one. My friend's mother worked for the local traffic department and they still had large fridge sized machines with reels for data storage. The original Mac OS is very neat and appealing. The 80's was quite the time for computers. Everyone was trying something different.
I'm truly genuinely believe that I'm sorry for interrupting the "ok" thing. Have you forgived me yet oh you have not that's a fantastic amazing super duper bummer Yep I'm done
I would love to get into one of those original MACs then disassemble the case, replace the monitor with a an hd led one with the same dimensions and connect it to an i7 micro PC which would be inside the old mac case and for the ports we replace with new ones compatible with the micro PC
You should find a broken one on ebay and do it. Be careful though, even after being powered off for years, those tubes still hold enough of a charge to literally kill you, so make sure you discharge (and dispose) of it properly and safely.
Oh yeah? How so? Cause apple doesn’t throw every single gimmicky thing at their products? Or how they perfect everything before introducing it? Or how their materials are 1000% better than any product out there? Or their customer service is top notch? Or how they have brick and motor stores everywhere. Or how they have the best eco system in the world...I could keep going, but I’m sure you’re not dumb enough to get the gist.
@@Roberob1189 Heh, what a typical Apple fanboy. Firstly, nothing Apple sells is 100% perfect in any way shape or form. Butterfly Keyboard, Core i9 Macbook, trashcan Mac, iMac Pro VESA mount etc etc. As for materials, well take one look at Snazzy Lab's video on the iMac Pro VESA stand and you'll see that whenever there's a chance to save a penny, Apple goes for it. As for customer service, go read into the whole Linus Media Group breaks an iMac Pro. Brick and mortar stores everywhere you say! I've never even seen an Apple store in my life, they put stores where there is high demand for products. And as proven in the whole iMac Pro fiasco, the genius bar is utterly useless. Eco friendly you say? Nope, that's just flat out wrong. While Apple now uses somewhere eco friendly packaging, this doesn't make up for the fact that they deliberately make devices harder to repair. Touch bar Macbook, iPhone battery lying about genuine part, proprietary screws, soldered ram, designs that fill up with dust that is uncleanable, I think you get my gist. Also, shame on you posting a comment looking for a fight, my comments was very old so keep your opinions to yourself. Thank you.
@@andrewhamop6665 LOL..you snowflake. You literally just pointed out a ton of bullshit. Linus? He’s literally the worst. Snazzy? Eh, maybe he can get it right once in a while. I wish I had the time to argue with you. I really do. Go play Minecraft. Or better yet get out of your parents house.
This brings back sooo many memories. My first real job was as a receptionist for a government contractor. We used Macs. In fact, this is the exact one I used. I was so sad when they decided drive years later to go to Windows. I learned Quarkxpress, Pagemaker and FileMaker Pro on a Mac. All self-taught. I built a training database for our customer. Good times.
The first models didn't include an internal drive so you had to use the floppy disks (hard drives were too expensive). Later models came with internal hard drives where you could save the OS to them and not have to use the floppy drive.
Very nostalgic. I remember using these in a lab in 8th grade. They were so high tech! We had a shitty ibm clone at home which did next to nothing as was so clunky. This machine was wondrous. I remember creating text and printing on image writer! Those were the days....
