This car was too nice to drive! Everytime I took it out I was worried that it would get hit, or scratched, or stolen. I loved it, but eventually sold it to a nice guy in Oklahoma. He still sends me updates from time to time!
I have owned 3 VW Bugs over a period of about 15 years, but none of them was a Super Beetle. I had a '69, a '70, and a '72. The '69 was basically just a cruiser, something to enjoy driving around in. The '70 was a full blown drag race car. $$$$ of Gene Berg parts. The '72 was a hot rod, 1776 engine, dual Webers, and a bunch of other stuff. I finally had to give up VWs. I live near Phoenix, AZ, and the temperatures during the summer average 110-112 degrees F. I just turned 65, and have some medical issues. I have to have A/C during our long hot summers. And there is just no way to put A/C in an air cooled VW. You have to run them really rich in the summer just to keep them from melting down. Literally rich to the point of fouling plugs.
I've owned a few as well, but the heat here isn't as bad for sure. Elevation? Well, that's a big problem instead. Different jets and a lot of power loss up here.
I agree, I love the old muscle cars but honestly and I have heard you state this in the past, I could never afford anything like that. An old Datsun, Cavalier or mini Toyota truck is more my speed! Thanks for sharing.
