Thanks for the video, also very cool to get a second opinion from Knapton. I just test rode the Whatever and agree with all of your points about how the board feels. I just have the exact opposite opinion of whether they are positives or negatives. I hate the slidiness and how you first go into that side zone and another few degrees later get into the edge proper.
I bought this board this season and I had the chance to try it out at my local mountain opening day. I really enjoyed it, really forgiving and fast. I find that I will need more days with it so I can truly get the 3d tech is offers. I do gotta say I am 5'11 and bought this board smaller at 148 and I think it's fine, I was still able to go straight down the slope at around 40 mph and it being smaller I was able to toy around with it way easier. Overall is a bad ass board and I'm looking forward to trying it out on some pow and shoots.
That's awesome dude!! Stoked you like it. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if I still liked the board if I sized down a bit, it's still super wide and that's the main aspect I need with size 13 feet. Take a few more days of riding and the 3BT will slowly settle in more, hope the tip at 03:25 helps. Also I wish I had pow and shoots on the East Coast 😭
I am a snowboarder from india and only get a week to snowboard every year .. Great Video your video is hands down one of the best ones that explains how 3BT feels. Keep up the good work :D
Thank you so much I really appreciate it 🙏🙏 Means a lot. From India too?? Represent dude 🇮🇳 I’m sorry you only get a week to snowboard every year tho :((
I got the 157 Whatever in the sales, and due to go away the end of this month. I have used it at local indoor slopes and it felt VERY different to my 2012 K2 Parkstar. after a few visits I am a getting uses to it, I reckon a full day on the slopes and I will be flying on it come day 2. What I do find is i wash out on butters, I was better on my last visit, think I used to butter on a slight edge and the edge is not there on the 3BT
That other board you referring to is the Marhar LJX? Why do you opt for the cambered LJX over the LJ? How do you compare the pros of the LJX to the Whatever?
Thinking about getting this board for park, but i live on the east coast, alot of ice. I really like this board but because of the 3bt in ice im not too sure if i should go with a standard board
Heck yeah man i just picked one up last week. Im definitely curious as to how it will ride because its a totally different shape than anything I've ever ridden before. Nice review, I liked the part where negative reviews were found online😂
Let’s gooo that’s awesome! Yeah this was my first ever snowboard that was not a true twin. But for me the switch riding felt fine, and even other reviewers like Board Archive thought it was fine. If your screws in your bindings have microadjustments, maybe push them towards the big nose just a hair so you have a little extra control when switch riding. And yes always gotta include the negative reviews 😂 I wanna be as open minded as possible in my videos
I am 5,8 and got a used beyond medals 151 and it is super fun for butter and the park but it gets super squirmy carving and isn’t any better in pow. Looking to get a k2 simple pleasures for carving and powder
My first board was a Lib Tech Skate Banana👎 then I got an Arbor👎. I got the hang of riding on a Goliath then went to an Evil Twin then I got the Beyond Medals Whatever. And the Whatever is by far the best board I’ve ridden. I feel like I have the most control and confidence with this board.
Dude I was in the same boat. You truly don’t know what snowboard you like until you spend all the money in the world to try them out 😅 It’s definitely a big life tip to seek out local shops with demo boards to try before you buy. Stoked you like your Whatever as well!! I’ve never ridden the Beyond Metals do you like the stiffer flex?
@@MountainMitchYT yeah you get a little more pop and a nice surfy feeling with the beyond medals. The whatever is nice too but I notice a little more chatter when going at higher speeds.
@@thedon378 the Goliath is a great board too! That’s the board that I was able to really learn on. I always had a hard time stopping on my heels and for some reason in one day on the Goliath I got the feel of everything as far as stopping, not catching edges, getting on and off the lift ect. Bataleon is just a great board to be on weather you are novice or pro.
Any idea how this board does on ice? (East coast native, Jay peak vt is were I ride) we get like 50/50 between powder days and slush and ice, how would this board do? I only ride groomers to get to the trees and side hits?
The reason for the feeling of a too big board before the Bataleon is, that you took a board that was actually too big. You showed the ride twinpig, which is a volume shifted board, meaning you could probably have written it in 148 and would ve felt better than on 157. I ride the twinpig myself as a guy who is close to 2 meters and everything above 154 ist too big. I think the whatever is excellent aswell, but you can not compare it with the Twinpig, if you rode the twinni way too big :D
You’ve got a point. I think I was just trying to highlight the fact that the Whatever was longer and wider than my TwinPig, yet still felt more nimble which was just super surprising to me. Like volume shifted normally means “size down because of the HUGE width” and the Whatever had the same HUGE width as my TwinPig, so I was just super surprised that it was more nimble. Idk if I make any sense I could be totally wrong 😂 I definitely gotta try a smaller TwinPig tho!
@@MountainMitchYT I think I get what you wanna say :D The pig is actually a bit wider I think, don't have the numbers rn, but not more than 1 cm and they're both huge af thats for Sure:D Guess it is the 3bt that makes you feel like that.. Let's meet in austria and swap Boards for that testride :D
@@IMueTz3 :D Awesome I'd love to haha! Where in Austria or Europe would you recommend me going? I've never been to Europe I am in Massachusetts USA but I really wanna go this year or next year.
@@MountainMitchYT depends on what you prefer for your riding. I like riding slopes and playing with sidehits (is it the right word in english? :D), so I like Les Arcs/La Plagne in France very much and went there the last three years. But there are plenty of options tbf. Can't compare Europe with USA because I never were oversea, but I'd love to see it one day. What resort would you recommend?
@@IMueTz3I’m on the East Coast of the US, aka the worst place in the US to ski 😂 They call it the “ice coast”. I’ve never been out west in the US, but that is where everyone raves about skiing. A lot of people like places that aren’t owned by the corporation Vail. Colorado, Utah, Montana, and California are often talked about a lot. Personally I’d love to go to Southern California where you can surf and snowboard in the same day which is pretty cool. But north California you get really nice snow like everyone recommends mammoth mountains or the mountains around Lake Tahoe. And yes we call it side hits in the US! :D I will have to look into those mountains in France, if not I might have to head to Austria! 🇦🇹 What is your instagram btw?
Hey Mitch. I loved the video and it was incredibly useful for what to expect since I just got this board during the off season. Side not: I'm getting ready to launch my own snowboarding vlog channel later this year so if you're ever in Denver and want someone to ride and film with. Feel free to shoot me a message
I’m on the east coast near wachusett. Just canceled my Bataleon Evil Twin order for a Yes Great Uninc. Didn’t want to lose edge on hard pack and ice we get. Did you have that issue? New to park wasn’t sure if a full park board would be best in NE conditions. B
The “Midbite” feature on the Yes Great Uninc is going to give you more grip on ice than the Evil Twin. I rode a similar board with something like “Midbite”, and it almost feels like you’re getting pulled up the mountain at first on ice because the grip is so unexpectingly strong 😂 At the same time tho, my Bataleon board gets the job done for me personally, it just doesn’t stop on a dime on ice like a Midbite board would. And with that, I get to ride a 4/10 flex board that is easy to learn park and do butters around the mountain. So it’s up to you and how you want to weigh your options, hope this helped 🙌
I happen to own the Evil Twin and the Greats UnInc., and I think you chose an amazing board over another amazing board. They're not very similar in my opinion, but they both have fun shapes, great pop, and tons of potential. I think by going with the Greats over the Evil Twin you've traded Bataleon's extreme forgiveness and easy buttering for the Great's excellent edge hold and carving. I think Bataleon boards are much easier to ride for Beginner/Intermediate riders, while more advanced riders prefer more edge bite. Either way, you're choosing between two of my all-time favorite boards, so I think you'll have fun!
Hi guys, any opinion about the Bataleon FunKink? There’s a promotion at my local store, but they only have sizes 151 and 157. I'm 177cm tall and wondering which one would be better. Ideally, I'd prefer a size 154 in the future.
That is an excellent point. I never went for the disaster as it was 2/10 flex, but the + has better materials and is a little stiffer. Plus models like the 156W is quite wide… If you want something SUPER orientated to park, I’d get the Disaster + over the Whatever. The downsides outside the park is it’s a lower camber than the Whatever, less 3BT uplift, a tiny bit softer, and a tiny bit less wide and long. Overall tho, man that might have to be my next board for extra park fun and still be somewhat decent at all mountain. Maybe I can try to demo it before I buy it to see if the specs live up to what I’m talking about.
I serviced my whatever and cause of a mixup they didnt do it, so gave me a replacement board for the day, and it was a Rossignol rocker 2cm longer.. Bro I cant ride whatever no more...
ABC my GUY. It says you joined 11 years ago on this platform you’re an OG in the space. Much respect. 0 subs too? I just subbed to you lol I’m your first one
To me, this video is the epitome of, "to each their own". Everyone on earth has a different (varying) opinion compared to the next Average Joe, but, props for making your video. Well done. But, chances are, in another couple years you'll find the next board that blows away the Whatever... Same thing with music, at this moment you might be like, oh, this band is the best ever... But, then another few cats come along that totally flip the script on ya, and, all the sudden, they're now your fave band... So on and so on. So, I applaud your BOLD statement in saying that the BEST SNOWBOARD OF ALL TIME is the Bataleon Whatever... But, I do think that in 2-5 years time you might look back and cringe (or laugh) at the naivete of such an all-encompassing statement. Do I agree with your claim? Nope. No I don't. Not in the slightest... But, just my opinion. And, again, I applaud your (youthful) take on it. Your excitement for the board / and your attempt to prove it (I must say) made me smile... you gave it the ol' College-Try... And well done on an organized, well put-together video👍 Please make an updated video 2-5 years from now and let us know your thoughts whether the Whatever still holds up as the BEST BOARD OF ALL TIME (lol) or, whether another cut-of-wood and resin now steals your show... Good job on the video, I admire the effort🏂🤸❄ Ride Shadowban / Yes Greats UnInc / Amplid Soley Grail / Korua Otto - the Tranny Finder - the Pencil / Ride Deep Fake / Warpig / Vimana Meta / Amplid Paradigma... just to name a few that I'd jam on before the Whatever... But, again, to-each-their-own... Your truth (at the moment) is the Whatever... But, always be open to change and variety... That's what makes boarding so much fun / jammin' on new cuts of trees. BEST OF ALL TIME might be only applicable when discussing PINK FLOYD or MICHAEL JORDAN (hehe)... But, hey, you tossed the Bataleon Whatever into that mix, and, for that, I tip my cap to your enthusiasm Keep making videos... I was entertained / you did a damn good job 👍 RIDE-ON, AMIGO ~ that's all it's truly about ~ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tbdpv7G_PPg.htmlsi=uOCDf-g6I_c3poyC
Dude thank you so much it touches my heart the fact people care so much to leave such a long comment on my video. I was 100% aware when making this video that this is not the best snowboard of all time for everyone. I even said in the first 30 seconds "this is the greatest snowboard of all time, FOR ME PERSONALLY". I was also 100% aware that my opinion could easily change in the future, despite me having lots of experience on a large variety of snowboards. The reason for the title is a lot less complex than you think. It is solely for SEO purposes. My channel at the time of releasing that video had 15 subscribers. I wanted to appeal to all snowboarders, not just those searching "Bataleon Whatever review". All snowboarders have a higher chance of clicking on "Best snowboard of all time" over "Bataleon Whatever review". It's all marketing to get my hard work out there with such a small audience. Eventually this channel might not even be about snowboarding content. The whole purpose of me doing snowboarding content was to gain a subscriber base, then transition into unique life tips that anyone could benefit from. But considering the unexpected success I've had with the snowboarding content, I might continue, the only hurdle I have is having enough "unique life tips for snowboarding". I don't want basic reviews on my channel. I want unique stuff, like stuff about 3BT, or my most recent video about snowboarding armor. Stuff not talked about often. Maybe if I can land a sponsor I will solely do snowboarding content.
@@MountainMitchYT Definitely not a 7/10 for me it feeling less stiff, i can butter on it but for mainly butter there are better boards. For me it ‘s the perfect twin taking rails en kickers, hold great edge on decent speed and can butter on it.
Never tried those myself! Do any of those have some kind of 3BT? I feel like I need 3BT to stay catch free on rails 😅 But we are all different riders I’m glad you found what you like!
@@MountainMitchYT unfortunately yea, when you're a broke student you make do with what you have. Bought the board being super hyped about 3bt and relatively quickly started to hate it. also not a fan of the twin pig, it's not very confidence inspiring on edge. Feels kinda weird and washes out too easily
Fantastic board for people unable or unwilling to learn to ride with good form. It's great that it is there, to allow more people to enjoy the sport or allow people to gain confidence early on, before progressing. Maybe even to suport people of limited ability? Either way, Im glad its there, allowing more people to get on the mountain and enjoy the sport.👍 If you want to get more out of your snowboarding experience, take the time to learn to ride properly. This will allow you to ride snowboards that give greater performance. If not, dont worry, you can still enjoy the snow at a basic level.❤ It's not the best snowboard of all time. That was the Ride Timeless. Or K2 Recon Riser. Or Burton Custom. Or Lib Tech Orca. Or. Or. Or.😂
