Unfortunately the best way to get pip is to be completely dependent on others even though esp say you can work and claim pip , if you can make a cup of tea ,press buttons on a microwave talk read and write then you get no help from pip I do not understand the system but pip is failing a lot of disabled people ?????!!! 2020 government shame on you !
I don't know the ins and outs of how its failed people unfortunately, but I do know that there have been people let down by the system. It's a real shame, as it almost seems like a 'paint by numbers' assessment.
If u can turn a door handle cook a bacon sandwich, go in the assessment acting normal you will not get it even my support worker told me you have to act a little or you’ll never get it. Its wrong as they dont see your bad days being in bad for 4 days.. They watch your face expressions the lot…. Go in there dont shower for 2 weeks stink of alcohol and wee and u will get it… The system is messed up..
Waiting for the results and report to come, but I have speech and jointly thinking problems. And believe me it actually makes me feel a bit better you are like me. Struggling to say things and process words x

My claim was going to Run out on the 10Th March 2021 .... and I was expecting my award review around now but called PIP up and they said it’s been extended now and I won’t get a award review letter till July next year so I am happy !!!!!
They did this to me, I rang them up even Thoe they extended it a letter can still drop through your door before the extended date, a pip adviser told me they only have extended people's pip because of the back log they have through covid, you will eventually get a review form to fill in just letting you know this exstention means nothing your not out of the woods so be ready 🌺🙏

I applied pip 3 months ago and on Tuesday I received a call from the Assessment centre that my claim will be paper based (I didnt request it). No other questions asked. Today DWP has received my written report. Is this a good sign? I am just abit overhelmed of how smooth and quick the process went without any question and plus I didnt even request for paper based?

Any time you speak to people like these record it yourself. Record it using your phone or someone else's. Then you will have it for your records and can listen back on the conversation at your leisure.

I suffer with ibd and physically unable to wash and dress while flaring due to symptoms preparing food and eating is also pretty Dire due to loss of appetite and other symptoms of the disease I don't know how that would affect my claim as currently receiving treatment for my disease at the hospital every two weeks I'm there for an hour each time and also take medication daily on top of that and feel I'm slowly getting better so able to wash dress eat so I really don't know how that will affect my claim any advice/opinion from yourself would be appreciated thank you

Hello there. Thank you for the advice. I’m applying for PIP, for mental health, and I will have a telephone assessment this Wednesday, and I’m dreading it... Do you think it’s a good idea to record the assessment? And if so, do I need to ask them for permission to do that? And How long will the assessment last? Because from what I’ve read online, it can last between 30 mins to 2hrs. I filled out most of my form myself, over a long time, asking for extensions time and again. But I found a charity who kindly posted it for me, and looked over my stuff before sending it.
We are just starting out journey with our son who is 41. He also has aspergers which is high functioning autism. Any help to speed up the process would be greatly appreciated. Bless you
Hi there. My support worker initially helped me with my application, and she made me a copy for when my phone assessment was happening. That was sent with a GP letter, and letters from my consultants to support the case. My wife made loads of notes for me ahead of the call, and sat through it with me. Sorry to hear that you are suffering. It would probably be a good idea to let your doctor know, as they may be able to help refer you to therapy or prescribe medication to help. The DWP may contact your doctor as part of your assessment, so it would assist any claim if there is a specific diagnosis. I have no affiliation with the DWP, so I couldn't tell you how much you'd get. Good luck with your claim.
Hi you have the same as me I’m going through for reconsideration I was on full rate travel twice before because the dr done a letter appealing it now I also have ankylosing spondylitis very depressed I have scooter with out it I can’t shop . I’ve appealed twice before thanks to the dr,s letter won. Now they changed it to the lowest pip again got me involed
I just got a letter. Good news is that I've got it but the bad news is it doesn't say anywhere that they have backdated it? I claimed in January and my interview/assessment was in September. Will I get a letter saying they've backdated it ?
Good question. They should automatically back date it as far as I'm aware, but it might be a good idea to contact them and double check to see what date they would back date it to.
I am about to apply for Pip as I got Complex PTSD and now I got essential tremor to I am so scared to apply as I am on the low rate of DLA at the moment the citizens advice bureau man said I would be better of with Pip as I have to buy my own equipment

Any help you can get from your GP, like a letter backing up your situation will help with your assessment. Write down as much as possible beforehand so you're prepared, and read it out if you need to. Let them know that you needed to write things down ahead of the call. The assessor can be very understanding, and fingers crossed they will make you feel comfortable during the call. Good luck!

I dont really know where to start with the pip application and i am doing it on behalf of my daughter who has recently had a nervous breakdown, She had a psychotic phase and suffers from cptsd. she gets incredibly anxious, struggles to cook etc etc I feel that the responsibility is on me and would appreciate doing it together. I have a meeting next week with a charity and a guy is familiar with the form. His guidance will be great but I dont want to get it wrong. Advice and guidance would be great
Sorry to hear about your daughter, it must be so tough as a mum seeing her go through it. All I can suggest is gather as much information as you can from doctors, consultants etc. Get them to put together a report of how her conditions affect her on a daily basis, and submit these with the application. Keep copies of everything as they are likely to be discussed in the PIP call. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply, Today I had my video assessment. Was very emotional for me to answer all questions as someone of them were very personal. I had such a lovely lady who makes me feel very safe and comfortable. I really hope I will get both allowances . That would really help . Did they told why you wasn’t entitle to mobility allowance?
I've applied twice both times zero points on everything last time they phoned me to do last minute check I told them how they made me feel knowing that I can't walk long distances anymore I don't leave my house anymore and loads else but it's just a comment. I told them when they request your Dr's info and never get in contact to ask there opinion and just put zero for everything it knocks me down to level I struggle to get back up from. Everytime I've been giving zero points for bs reasons I end up not wanting to live anymore. And still zero since the last one I stopped all medication that day my World fell apart. To complain to pip you have to contact a local mp if I had energy for that I wouldn't need pip 🤔🤔
I told them also maybe the government should make a personalised disability benefit for people that have had spine surgery that most try and walk to stop back pain but can't walk to far due to Fibromyalgia and Functional neurological disorder 😥 anyone with back problems knows your gotta keep it moving but doesn't mean I feel like it's best thing todo. If I know the location of pip office I'd burn it to the ground. Horrible people
Hi, just be honest with your answers. I prepared mine first on a separate pad, then had the help of my case worker to complete the form. As well as A.S., I also have epilepsy, depression and anxiety, so I can appreciate where you're coming from. I tried to use examples of each question in my answer to help show the full picture. It can be overwhelming, but if you have any help from someone you know to go through things, that may help.

I'm not sure to be honest, I guess just the relevant years, for example if you were diagnosed in 2015, but had symptoms from 2014, they might go back to 2014. The PIP is based on how you are day to day though, so they may only go back a short while.

My hubby has extreme osteoarthritis, extreme topacheous gout in every single joint. He can’t walk or even hold a pen sometimes, yet he’s struggling on a building site every day ( when he can just about ), desperately trying to keep his business going. I’ve BEGGED him to throw the towel in now as it’s just getting beyond a joke. He can’t even come up to our bed at night cos of the pain and the HUGE lumps on every joint are something out of this world to look at . We just received his PIP papers to fill out , I’m scared for him to cock it up and be told to take a run and jump .... if only he could 😂 We not a clue about the benefits system + how to ensure get it right . There was a company who helped ppl fill them out but I’m not sure they still going ?
Sorry to hear about your situation, it must be so difficult for your husband and yourself. In terms of support for PIP application, I had help through my doctor. He referred me to my local healthcare, where I was able to talk through things and they assessed me on what they could help me with. They suggested PIP, and helped me complete the form. I used supporting documents from my rheumatologist, neurologist, gp and psychiatrist to back up the application. PIP is not related to earnings, so you can apply even if he is working. Yes he has stacks of letters from rheumatology to support it , it’s just because he is forcing himself to work like it I’m thinking maybe they will think he’s not eligible. The hospital signed him off for 3 months on Monday but he’s gone back as obviously no money coming in if he don’t + he hates not being at work too . It’s such a shame as he’s only 34 , doesn’t drink , smoke , yes he’s got a bad diet but it’s not even that that’s causing his gout as his diet is relatively low in purines . They said he’ll be in a wheelchair in 10yrs . I was on DLA Higher rate mobility for 12 yrs, I have had 3x bypass & ICD with a EF of 20% on last check, Also severe disease in left part of heart I have 2 ruptured disc's in lumbar & vertebrae around them are so degenerative that surgery was out of the question, I'm diabetic with neuropathy in feet & hands & osteoarthritis in neck shoulders hands hips knees, at my assessment sitting on chair answering her questions it ended & went home, I had also ticked box on form the 20 - 50 meters re. how far before stopping/catching my breath, On the assessment results she'd put she saw .e walking 40 meters without pausing ? And no sign of breathlessness throughout assessment, I appealed as far as I could but the panel sided with dwp, Now after ATOS who the dwp said was being replaced after their FIASCO & FALSE CLAIMS ETC. I discovered later on that the company that was replaced ATOS (IS ACTUALLY FORMERLY ATOS) SO JUST A NAME CHANGE & NO DOUBT STILL HAVE QUOATERS THAT THEY CAN ALLOW THE ENHANCED RATE ON MOBILITY SIDE TO RECEIVE IT. ??????? 😡😡😡😡😡

Hi, good luck with your assessment. They asked me the same questions that were in the application, so things like do I use aids to get around, do i need help with medication etc. There aren't any trick questions, but they may ask something that overlaps with another question, so just be honest with them. I had my wife with me on my call, so I'm sure they would welcome your partner on the call with you. Good luck again!

Also are the questions asked in sequential order i.e same as the form or do they just randomly jump to different questions? Regarding questions like medication etc, do they need to know when you take them or what they are, even though I've already listed them on the form? Sorry for so many questions or if I sound worried, but I've heard a lot of horror stories, hence my nerves.

They did run through my meds, but this was more confirmation rather than a question. It's best to be prepared though. My wife answered some of the questions on my behalf, or some things I didn't understand she would ask to be clarified. Hope this helps!

@@billymitchell5916 yes, anything from your gp, consultant etc. It may be a good idea to ask whether they need to see any medical reports, so you may need to send them over after the call. I honestly can't remember anything other than similar questions to what was in the form, but slightly more in depth.
The questions are mainly around the application, where you get to explain more detail. At the end, they may ask if there's anything you might want to add; this is where I let them know about how much things have cost me, such as treatment, meds, prescriptions, and items that make my life easier as a result. I was awarded the higher rate on my initial application, and then when it was renewed 3 years later, they added the basic mobility rate as things have degenerated since then.

Yes, that's pretty normal. It takes them a while to get things sorted, but if it's successful, they backdate any money to the date of the original claim.

Hi I'm not sure if there are any alternatives to a phone call assessment due to the covid situation. I'm in a similar situation with anxiety, so I had my wife sit with me on the call, so you can have anyone on there with you. The call itself is usually to go into more detail than what's on the application, so it's just the next step in the process to get a more detailed idea of your condition and how it affects your daily life. Hay, I have my PIP phone consultation in 3 weeks and i wanted to know how I should come across on the phone? I am more than confident but I don’t know if that will make me more of a reason to decline. I want to also know how I I remember the actual main points? Yes I will have my form in front of me but there is so much written! It’s at 9am and I feel that’s so mean because I will be half dead and what not 😂 in terms of revision and yes I need to revise otherwise I can’t speak in confidence. What am I revising? My form answers? As they probably have read the form and want to hear it in my own words. I just don’t know how I will say the main points. Say what I want to say. Say what I need to say. Say what I need to continuously say. And also to keep calm and straight to the point. Can you tell me how u prepared as this is my first time applying alone. Before. Mum used to do this. I know exactly what you mean about preparing. My support worker helped me complete the application, then my wife helped me on the call itself. I had my application in front of me, and all I did was be myself. I tend to ramble on about nothing when I'm anxious, and I told them that so their expectations were set. Hey I’ve had my assessment but waiting on a decision I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it took for them to make a decision on your claim? From the phone assessment they said up to 8 weeks but just wondered what other peoples experience as was thanks
I think they told me 6-8 weeks, but it was less than that. From memory it may have been about a month, but it was back dated to when I applied so I received a lump sum.

I can't really say, I've only had limited experience with them myself. I tend to waffle on & confuse my words when I try to describe things, so that's why my call took so long.
I used to receive personal independence payments and unexplained they stopped my payments. Right before Christmas and my birthday. So I think the reason why personal independence payments stop was because I recently had a medical assessment done to see how I was going and there asked me questions and asked from scale 1-10 how I felt about my everyday basic things I needed to do. I will upload the paper work so you can see. So in the assessment I was asked about my ability to cook and clean. I mentioned food in the process only because I recently got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. So I have to watch my diet. I forgot to mention to the woman doing the assessment. The reason why I mentioned food was because I recently got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so there fire it required healthy food for me. On the 19 Th of November I recently had a phone call from DWP in regards of personal independence payment and I just came from being hospitalised from the dangers of diabetes. I have uncontrolled diabetes due to my stress and confusion. I have been told by my Gp it’s impossible for me to work because of my diabetes. My risks are comma or losing a leg.
You are able to appeal decisions by the DWP. If your gp has stated you can't work, then you may be able to request a letter that states that, and submit that with your appeal. I wish you luck 🙏
Hi. I had my wife with me to help me through things. I guess if you're not fully confident doing the call by yourself, it would be a good thing to have someone with you. Other things I'd suggest , are to have a copy of your application in front of you during the call. This really helped me. Hope this helps, and good luck!
Yes, be honest with your answers. My difficulties can be any time of the day, but worse in the mornings for instance. Socks are the worst, so I have this gadget that your sock goes over, and you slide your foot in. It's really useful. I also use a long handled brush to shower.
@@Lucky-mr1wr I tend to ramble on trying to get words out, so it took me a lot longer. I also had the help of my wife beside me to help me and the assessor. I was nervous before my call,but they made me feel relaxed and comfortable. If you have your original application with you, refer back to that.
I’m having my phone assessment November 27th really not looking forward to it, suffer with arthritis and schizophrenia, I don’t trust PIP I’ve heard you’ve pretty much gotta be a head on a stick to get approved

Wow 2 hours, my assessment was 45 minutes over the phone an I was so emotional exhausted for the rest of the day and kept up all night questioning myself. The assessor said it could be up the 6 weeks wait for a final decision 😔

Good luck with your appeal. If there are discrepancies in your assessment, I'm sure a report from your rheumatologist and gp may be able to help with the appeal.
Thank you for your comment. Maybe I should explain that I cannot work? I was signed off work by my GP, Rheumatologist, Psychiatrist and Psychologist. I was then confirmed as unable to work by the DWP and my local Jobcentre plus. The amount of taxation I have paid over the years I have worked prior to my diagnosis was more than enough to substantiate the PIP I now receive. Can I ask you; what job do you think I can do?
