Hey E - good luck. I drove for about 12 years and decided to go back to school. Long story short, I ended up getting my master's and I know teach at Washburn University in Topeka, KS (but I'm born and bred CA). I'm now 64 and got to see the kids grow up, etc., but I'm lookin' back to my first love TRUCKS. I'm on the owner-operator trail. Lets keep in touch man and good luck again - all will work out

E, as long as one can swing the financial burden, is never too late to get more education. Just know that your passion for doing particular work is what will fuel your success, and education can help learn about that work, and communicate to others what you know.

You have a lot of fans out there brother. Not just in trucking either. I work in an office doing computer stuff for a bank but I started following you because I was/am interested in switching to truck driving. Make another video to let us know what you're doing. A lot of people aren't on facebook.
I actually have had a bachelors degree for 3 years and now I'm considering truck driving since I was never able to even get an interview for a good job. Education isn't the answer. Probably going to make the same that you would make on the road.
Brandon B I know this post was 4 years ago but I agree with you, I also have a bachelors and I’m making the same amount as high school kids in fast food. It’s not that I don’t agree with education, it has helped me become a better person but as with most people in today’s society it doesn’t pay the bills. With trucking it’s a hit or miss, some people hate it but still do it, however, once you gain enough experience and with a good driving record you can literally apply to any company that will treat you like a real person and not just a number. I’m currently in CDL school and transitioning into trucking as a second career!

Good to see you on here again E. Sucks about your accident but like you said maybe that was just those lemons you needed to make some different tasting lemonade. I gotta tell ya, when I first started watching your videos it was over a year and a half ago and I was sitting in a little bedroom I rented from a buddy trying to get my life together. I was battling a deep funk and my world was turned upside down due to a recent separation and impending divorce. I was basically wasting away. Life was bleak back then and I watched your videos regularly to keep myself focused on trucking and starting this new endeavor. Temp labor was not cutting it and I knew driving was my ticket to not only a new life but also a way to see my parents and family back east. My mom has cancer and I couldn't afford the plane tickets to go east from Tacoma. I watched those videos and they validated my intentions. They helped push me towards making this a reality. I kept at it and went through the slow process of starting this new career and life. I went to the Swift academy right after New Years 2013. I got on the road with a trainer about a month later. Six weeks after that I was picking up my ProStar up near Detroit and I have been driving for Swift ever since. It's been almost a year without any incidents, lates, tickets, accidents, etc. It goes without saying that your videos helped me in every aspect of this career and helped make me a safe, productive and respectful driver. I'm currently pushing for Platinum status. Life has never been better. Ya know if you ever need any guidance or help with anything I got your back. My little bro does Ironmans, triathalons, etc. regularly and he is working on his PhD in occupational therapy. He's also a kinesiology "expert" so if you ever need someone's brain to pick I can put you in touch. Also, you ever got anything I can do to help you in school, look me up. I got my B.S. back in '96 and went to law school for a minute but I think I still remember most of the experience. Good to see you are back in the game even it is a different one. So sorry to hear about what happen, man that's SAD! We really could use more people like you out there "OTR"! But GOD does what he does for GOOD reasons. I myself lost my right leg due to a major blood clot back in June 2012. It's really hard to get used to a Fake Leg. Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do next in life! But being Positive! :-)
Peace E I have been in your shoes before. I did the College and University studies plus Cut Hair (Barber) to get by while in school. The hours in a Barber Salon gave me the right opportunity to complete studies. Yeah E, I had to rock the Barber Chair Thursday, Friday and Saturday part time in the Family Hair Salon. There one thing that your miss and it's being over the road in a Truck... It's all good and you E, school really hard work but fun learning... Point here E for you to stay in school but do keep your CDL in your pocket... Talk to you later...

What ever u do don't get back surgery. I got surgery to save my disk, and the drilling on my back kills my back now. I had the same problem with my leg. Try not to lift anything heavy or Els ur disc will come out and pinch your sciatic nerve more.

I have school in Richmond, VA starting on Oct. 20th. Do you have any advice for a newbie? What's the best way to get along with the dispatch and DMs?

I don't want to rain on your parade but I think you'll find with any degree short of a masters or doctorate, you'll have a hard time finding a job in your field of study. I've got an AA and a BA and any job I apply for in my major field is always at the bottom with others who don't have degrees. Unless of course you go for one of the specialty degrees to get certified in setting up and maintaining networks. Many jobs in that field and they pay very well. But I think you'll always fall back on truck driving. It pays decent and you got the experience. My sister has a journalism BA and she's teaching elementary school. My brother has a BA in finance and he works for Fedex. I have a BA in network information systems and I'm unemployed. I just got my CDL and am about to start driving. So good luck. My question is....why didn't you immediately go to another OTR company? Why did you Stop and go back to college? What was it about trucking that made you want to quit trucking when you had the chance to quit? Why didn't you go on onto the next OTR trucking company?

were you driving the car and got hit by a 4 wheeler? The car doesn't look to damaged. Is there a lawsuit involved? Is that why you had to share pics of supposed injuries? How much $$$ will you win in the lawsuit? just curious.
