I think the core of the issue is mounting the light on your body or something carried by your body (i.e. your book). Depending on your situation, it might be better to just find a really small directional lamp with a gooseneck that can clip on somewhere on the bed frame or something. But that really depends on your bed or what is next to it.
Oh I agree. The problem with mounting it to something that's not you is that when/if you roll around to read (which I do) you would have to adjust the light for the new position. I find the benefit of mounting it on the book is at least it moves with me. There is no perfect light yet it seems... Maybe we should create it! 👊
@@TheSAHDLife Oh I mean a literal no-brand cordless lamp off of Aliexpress. Your video helped me realise that most of these gimmicky book lights are way more annoying to use compared to placing a nice adjustable night light next to the bed.
You know, that IS a good idea. Ugh it's so hard though as parents. We tuck our kids in then go hide in the bedroom so we can get some alone time to watch some crap and read our books... so it's hard to separate that space for ONLY sleeping. I have never done that my whole life. Maybe I'll have to try it sometime. Always appreciate suggestions 👊
Reading actually helps me A LOT in falling asleep. I don't see how reading and sleeping could conflict... Especially using a gadget like this, which emits a yellow, dim light, the whole point of it for me!
I like to read on both sides personally, and if it was a stationary light that wasn't attached to the book it would have to be too bright for me to use while laying on my right side or perhaps even on my back for that matter. I find when the light is in a position like you suggest it lights up the room more than a light that is closer to the book... if that makes sense.
Hi. I have created videos sharing everything I know on gerd/lpr, so if you haven't yet please watch those. You can post in that comment section if you still have questions.
What a palaver. Why not just buy a Kindle? Fortunately, I'm single and don't have to worry about not using my bedside lamp. But, my Kindle has an inbuilt light that I can use on the odd occasion (like on holiday) when I'm sharing a room with a friend. Otherwise I turn the inbuilt light off!
That's a good question... I guess I like good ol' fashioned books. Seeing them on the shelf sparks joy when I remember the story. I think it adds some ambience to the room since we store them in our living space. We also live close to the library and we love to find books at Thrift stores. Don't get me wrong, a backlit Kindle WOULD be nice but there's something about seeing and completing a book that's a different experience from a digital reader, at least for me. I had a Kobo YEARS ago... I'm sure they're much better now.
My wife uses a Kindle for reading while I use my iPad Mini 6 with the Overdrive app, and both work well. It's also easy to check out digital books in our area, in either the Kindle or the epub (for Overdrive) format. When we go on vacation we can have several books stored in a small, easy to store device.
@@bryans8656 You really can't beat the convenience of a digital reader that's for sure. Do you use a blue light blocker on your iPad when reading in bed or do you not have issues with sleep?
I don’t use a blue light blocker and don’t have trouble sleeping but that’s because I’m colorblind. Usually it’s a nuisance but occasionally it works in my favor 😊.
@@TheSAHDLife It's all subjective, I guess. For me, the Kindle is perfect for the bedroom. Mine is smaller/lighter than most books and it can be propped neatly into the folds of the duvet, so that you can go "hands free," and not have to hold it, or hold pages open. But, I totally agree, there's something about leafing through the pages of a "real" book! 😉😉📚
I use a small RGB video light on a small rig clamp attached to the headboard 🙈- that allows getting much dimmer and removing any remaining blue light not to disturb my circadian rhythm or my sleeping partner :)
Haha! Sounds like a sick little setup. I guess the only downside is you can't take it on the go. Glad to see ya caught the video. I tried releasing early for my European viewers 😄
@@TheSAHDLife Funny you should say that, that's the first thing I pack in my tech pouch! - It's amazing to have soft/mood lighting in a hotel where usually it's blazing bright lights :)
That's rad, I had a feeling you'd have a solution for that! The ol' Hotel lights aren't always the best. Having the RGB in there too would be sweet lol. Good idea.@@DigiDriftZone
I found your vids through your alcohol videos (super honest and relatable). Ever since I put your vids on whenever they come out regardless of the topic. Love your style, personality, voice. ✌🏻
Aw thanks for saying, I really appreciate that. I try and make videos of whatever I'm passionate about at the moment. This makes it hard to get consistent views and actually grow my channel, but it ensures I put my best effort into each video because I'm having fun. I want each video to be enjoyable to watch regardless of the topic. Thanks again for the support 👊
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it 👊 Yeah this RU-vid game is a long grind for sure! Some videos get a lot of attention, and it's nice when that happens... but sometimes I just want to make videos like this because they are fun to make, even though I know they might not get the eyeballs. I thought it was a good thumbnail and interesting enough topic that it might make the Algorithm but it just shows you never know what the ol' Red machine likes!
Thanks :) After going through Dry January I've been reading a lot 🤣 and it's one of those little gizmos that doesn't cost much and makes life a little better. I love those kinds of products!
Just to let you know I have ordered the Glocusent neck lamp from Amazon and can’t wait to use it this week when it arrives ! Thanks again for doing the research .
Loved your video and your investigative approach to making life easier. I've also used ALL of the lights you showed, and totally agree with you!! I'm gonna make my own. Will share pics when I am done.
Oh it was so good!! Haven't started book #4 yet. Did you keep going with the series? I'm reading the Scythe series now, on book #2. It's really good too!
For some reason my reply vanished but what I said that there is for example, Juesi flat book light for reading sold at Amazon. I haven't tried them though.
