The clutch cable needs to have some slack to allow the clutch to fully engage. If there is no free play, the clutch will wear out quickly.

Hey CJ, love the videos man! Always check adjustment first and set lever freeplay. But im almost positive the damper spring or "coned ring" is backwards, the last friction plate isnt offset, and both hub and basket have gnarly grooves. Which can eventually make your clutch feel clunky. And will get progressively get worse. Cheers buddy!

I am from Germany. I love your videos, keep it up And my clutch looks just like your old one. And you could have driven this one even further. The coloring is quite normal. You should have just turned the clutch pedal pin further out, or further in, so that the clutch closes further.
@USAHockeyCoaches
@USAHockeyCoaches Год назад
Your clutch damper spring “conical spring” is installed incorrectly. It should look concave facing outwards. See service manual. However, this did not cause your clutch failure. As previously mentioned, there’s a high probability your clutch cable was adjusted incorrectly. Too tight. Cheers!
@lubetube.
@lubetube. Год назад
According to page 5-62 in the service manual, suggest other wise. Yamaha made it apparent to the reader by exploding the view of the damper spring and its seat that he indeed installed it correctly. This means the "cone" faces inwards not out. Think about it, Yamaha would label it as a "convex spring" if it faced outwards. You may be confused with conical spring washer for the main axle.

@F1CT1C10U5 Год назад
Don't know if it's a big deal... but I think you've made a mistake... Please check. Removing the parts, the last 3 were in this order conical ring, friction plate, flat ring. Installing you place friction plate first then flat ring and then conical ring.

I agree with the comments that others have said that the inner basket should be replaced as well as the cable be adjusted so the cable has freeplay instead of tight like you have it. Also i have seen you use standard engine oils in the past. You want to make sure you always use motorcycle specific oil (like you are now) as it has the proper friction and dispersion modifiers to deal with a wet clutch. Your videos are very well done. Keep up the great work.

10:18 The grooves in the clutch basket exacerbate wear on the clutch. You can file down the grooves with a fine file to save money but down the line your gonna have to replace the basket for who knows how much

@BikerBroughy
@BikerBroughy Год назад
The clutch being worn out and slipping is fair enough, but no matter how worn the clutch is the lever should always have spring pressure behind it, where as in your video it wouldn't return... So you have other issues. From the looks of the basket wear I would say the plates got caught in the groves and when you released the lever the springs couldn't compress the stack again as it was stuck and the lever went loose.
@ahadnova6565

Bro your clutch hub is facing friction issue that's why it has grooves please change it ASAP otherwise it will make bigger mess.
@bccapone837
@bccapone837 Год назад
Great video , it's better to offset the last friction plate to the rest of stack to distribute the stress on the clutch and help lessen the noise , it won't harm the clutch but if you look when you took the cover off the last friction plate was offset from the rest , I've seem many of these from the factory without the last one offset so there's no harm but it does help if you do , they state it in the manual but I've seen a few that are all lined up on stock clutches now for some reason . 👍🏼👌🏼

The last friction plate you fitted (on the outside) was not located in the correct channel in the basket, it should have been offset 1 channel compared to the other friction plates. You can see a witness mark where the original plate sat. The last plate is always offset compared to the rest of the plates. Check your manual. You should have more freeplay in the cable too or clutch will slip.
@CJMediaOfficial
@CJMediaOfficial Год назад
O I guess you're right Ian, is there a reason for the offset? Thanks

Clutch is destroyed . probably melted-stuck the fricts together by abject abuse by some punk .. . those scallops shouldn't be on the sping locating pegs.. shouldn't be a issue. the spring could get hung up ..never know .. but that is totally WEIRD to take the amount of metal out of that hub's spring pegs.. could they break, I'd replace the center hub immediately .. like the clutch seized .spring was forced on that peg and turned and turned -should have replaced the hub.. infact a aftermarekt adjustable slipper would have been the route the scalloping in the basket where the clutch friction plate tangs engage .... should have smooth them out .can make engagement problematic ...Using a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL you can get the factory specs for the spring length , clutch pack height, etc.. If a spring is well used it won't measure w/in factory spec..-short .. the clutch pack. the entire clutch drive, driven, judder plates the thin convex or wavy metal plates together are measured for height .. I've never seen such deep scalloping on the spring locating pegs and I've done my fair share of clutches .. This is why insurers write these superbikes off after a massive wreck.. the liability of repair is enormous as something else undetected could break, causing another wreck and a major lawsuit...

What a disaster i'm dealing with. I'm restoring a 1993 CBR600F2 and i ordered a fairing kit from MFS-Motor. It showed up the other day and first of all i have to fit the headlight. The mounting inserts are 5mm to close and two of the inserts have threads sticking up that are too short! The mounting area for the turn signals are at least 4mm too low and off by the same amount. What a mess. Have you ever had problems with things like this with your vendor?

You have a recalled clutch, you don’t put the friction plate in first. It’s the two metal rings then the plates. Pull up the factory diagram they fixed that. You put it back together wrong. I just went through this with mine.
@EuroKiller1956
@EuroKiller1956 11 месяцев назад
You folded the clutch wrong. The last lamella should be rotated. So it should not be in the same line. It is also written in the workshop manual! The reason is simple. When the plates are in line (the way you put them on), the clutch won't start to slip when the plates wear, but it will start to slip when it's metal to metal. So iron filings from the slats get into the oil. When the lamellas are correctly, i.e. the last one turned, it rests against the basket and the clutch starts to slide. This is a sign of limit wear of the lamellas and a reason for immediate replacement. This is how lamellas with the minimum thickness can be recognized. You don't know it when you mounted them in one line and you can damage the engine with metal filings until the clutch wears out completely.
