Oh, my goodness! I am ashamed to say I have never heard Linda’s version of this until right now! Lovely Linda never disappoints. You hit the nail right on the head. Her version is vastly different from Patsy’s. It stands alone. Just beautiful!

From Linda's 3rd album, from 1972, " Linda Ronstadt", this cover of Patsy Cline's song is a masterpiece. Linda's powerful and precise vocals add a magical touch to this great classic. It was recorded at The Troubador club in Los Angeles. Linda's emotional delivery is heightened by the great backing instrumentation of the band who later became The Eagles. The City of San Francisco celebrated Linda Ronstadt's 78th birthday by dedicating a special day in her name. "The city supervisors formalized the declaration on Tuesday, July 9, making Monday, July 15, officially 'Linda Ronstadt Day.'" (San Francisco Chronicle, July 8, 2024) The group of musicians Linda Ronstadt brought together for her eponymous third album included several future member of The Eagles -- Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, and Don Henley. It was during the recording sessions for that album that they discovered how well they gelled together. For another treat from that record, check out "Rock Me on the Water", a song with Glenn Frey on guitar and Don Henley on drums. They also play on this song.

For me I have my trio of best female singers of all time and they are all on the same level, each one unique and so so beautiful..1A Karen Carpenter, 1B Linda Ronstadt and 1C Marilyn McCoo. How blessed I was to have grown up in their era. Each contributed to the songbook of my life, and each has stirred my soul and spirit in countless ways.

The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation. I Fall to pieces is one of three songs recorded live from her self titled album from 1972. There are another 7 songs from the album that are studio recordings. Great album. Linda's version Crazy from her Hasten Down the Wind album is amazing! Anyway, Linda did have the best vibrato in the business. She learned it from her brother when she was young. He is also a fine singer.

Check this out. Mandy Banett as "Patsy Cline" not yet 20 years old in 1994 on the Grand Old Opry "Singing Blue Moon Of Kentucky". Love Linda since I was9 years old in 1975, but this is utterly surreal. Mandy's voice is just phenomenal. Her voice was so strong and yet so well modulated! Total breath control. A range of 3 octaves! Perfect enunciation! She didn't need much, if any amplification in most indoor venues let alone a recording studio. Didn't need a sound engineer to do much of anything.

My 2 favorite singers of all time! I heard Patsy in the early 60's. And I thought no one could top her version. Then Linda did it, Wow! Linda's version is magnificent! She can take any song and totally make it her own. This is a classic example! What a talent. She is supurb! And it was recored live at the legendary Troubadour in L.A.!

I'm a massive Linda fan, and it's no surprise to me that she did a high quality version of this classic .. But IMHO, Patsy's original still holds the crown, and it will probably forever be unmatched .. Linda's was very sweet to listen to, but Patsy gives me chills when she does it.

Although Whitney Houston‘s cover is obviously one of her most well-known hits, it’s very different and I think a bit over the top with her vocals. Linda is more of a ballad softer. Dolly Parton, who wrote the song, also did a version and all three are unique and very nice.Dolly Parton is probably the most simple and the most country. Linda is in the middle and then there’s the bombastic torch song by Whitney.

Love your appreciation for Linda, Harri! I share in your opinion of her talent and beauty and was lucky to see her live a couple of times in the late 1970s when she was still playing huge stadiums that she easily sold out because she was so popular in the U.S. (no idea why she wasn't then in other countries). She sounded as good or better live as you can tell from his very early live recording. Though not live, Linda's version of Patsy Cline's "Crazy" from her "Hasten Down the Wind" album is amazing as well.

My 2nd favorite female singer, ONJ, had more chart success in the U.S. than Australia, though the difference between the two countries was much smaller than Linda's.

Still have this album…every song is gorgeous and perfect. I think there’s a lot of us that had her earliest records and who felt Linda was so fantastic and couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t a bigger artist at the time. Eventually everyone else caught on and got ‘Linda Fever’ haha

Part of the album was live. Pre-Eagles members were her unnamed back-up band. There is a Neil Young song, a Johnny Cash song, Jackson Browne song, and more. This is a Capitol Music album, part recorded in a studio; the live cuts are at the famed Troubadour in L.A.

Thanks and great appreciation to Linda Ronstadt on the anniversary of her birthday. What would the world be without her beautiful voice that we can continue to hear every day! I know I do. I think I’ve been listening to Linda Ronstadt for 50 years and she’s probably the one singer I’ve listened to the most. This is an exceptional version; she also did a cover of Patsy Cline’s, “crazy,“ which may have been a little more popular it was on a later album that sold more. That’s also a good version to listen to harry. Props to the slide guitarist; Linda always had the best musicians backing her and saw herself as part of the band rather than a diva. I’ve seen her a couple of times live and I always thought she was a bit shy on stage, especially doing the pitter patter with the audience, but then would launch into a song and it didn’t matter. I’m so glad people are discovering her again.

I've been a Linda Ronstadt since 1967 and I have many of her albums. I've seen and heard her live in concert and she sounds the same if not better than her records. She has the most amazing voice and a beautiful soul! Dolly Parton was exactly right when she said that "Linda can sing anything".

Only 2 women I can think of that I'd accept doing a classic Patsy cover. One is LeAnn Rimes and the other is Linda Ronstadt. Check out the video titled _Linda Ronstadt & Nelson Riddle Orchestra Complete, a must see_ sometime. It's a great concert (especially if you like big band, jazz, boogie woogie, etc) that further shows her versatility. You really don't need to react to any of it, just enjoy it. .

She utters her frequently claimed 'fact' that she thinks she is at least partly a reincarnation of Ms. Cline. This interview was on the cusp of kd's career taking off. I forgot to mention that Linda’s covers, especially of other female vocalist, she did because she had listened to their records as a child and teenager, and it was her way to give tribute to them. She very much personally selected the songs that she wanted to record. Although she did not write a lot of her songs she did write a couple or co~wrote them with her father.

Just came across this video . . . . it's now August and i missed her birthday. Linda Ronstadt has been a favorite of mine for many years, and yet I have never heard this performance. What a joy to hear it now! She was one of those few singers who could sing any style and genre and do it well, while putting her own mark on it. My intro to Patsy Cline came from my childhood. My parents would only listen to Country & Western, and while I disliked most of it, there were a few artists who really grabbed my attention and left a deep imprint. Patsy Cline was definitely one of those. Whenever i would hear her voice, I had to stop whatever i was doing and just sit and soak in every note! Linda Ronstadt has the same effect on me!
