You can thank Linda for the Eagles. They were originally studio musicians. They were backing her in the studio and she told them they were too good to just be studio musicians. The rest is history
That is false information. Don Henley and Glenn Frey were part of her touring band. At the end of that tour Don and Glenn decided to make their own band. Linda and her boyfriend JD Souther, helped them get musicians together that finally formed Eagles. It's very well documented there's an interview with Linda and an interview with Glenn Frey that says exactly that.
@@kurtsaxton823- I had always heard that Don Henley sang the male backup on the studio version of this song. Kinda looks like him in this video also. I guess I heard wrong info.
@@RogerThat1986 definitely not. This was a Roy Orbison song, that he was unable to make popular, other people tried as well. Linda killed it. Anyways, Linda's boyfriend at the time JD Souther was friends with Glenn Frey, in her Troubadour days. Don Henley was a Texas outsider. Glenn and Don hit it off while they were on tour with Linda because they were roommates. Linda and JD Souther had everything to do with the Eagles getting started. They introduced them to their future band mates. And fun fact, Linda actually recorded Desperado before Eagles. And of course Don Henley wrote it.
Well, in fairness, she was the hottest chick on the planet and I was 13 years old. Which while I'm pushing 60 now... yeah I still hold the same position on her
Who is Linda? Probably the biggest rabbit hole you could ever delve into. Linda has about a dozen Grammys, in almost as many genre's. She has a Tony and she shares a Chinese theatre star with Dolly and EmmyLou Harris. The 'TicketMaster' of the 70s dubbed her Female Performance Artist of the Decade". Google her. Don't be afraid to go off into the odder genres because she rocks it. Mariachi, opera, country, rock, great American songbook, she does it all with ease.
As Willie Nelson said, "There are two kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard her." And now you have 🙂! She's a national treasure. It's country rock.
I saw her multiple times in the 70's . Seeing her sing this live is electric! She could make you cry, dance, and experience joy. It was all effortless for her! I still have a crush on her after all these decades.
Linda owned the 70’s! I don’t think you’ll find a song of hers that will disappoint you. She’s sick now and can no longer sing but I saw her live back in the day and a purer, clearer voice you can’t find! Better than the recordings!
Linda Ronstadt is part of my childhood. You're No Good, Tracks of My Tears, Long Long Time, When Will I be Loved and many, many more! This is just the tip of a very large glacier! You owe it to yourself to keep listening.
Same. Growing up, my sister and I just about wore out my mom's Linda Ronstadt Greatist Hits record. The best memories of the three of us just singing along together. ❤
"She has earned: 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award. Many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum in the United States and internationally. She has also earned nominations for a: Tony Award and a Golden Globe award. She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. In 2019, she received a star jointly with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their work as the group Trio. Ronstadt was among five honorees who received the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements" She sold well over 100 million albums world wide.
Huge. Linda Ronstadt was huge! I feel so old when I realize you had never even heard of her. But thanks to youtube reactors like yourself, the generations are mixing it up and music will be so much the better for it! I know I'm constantly hearing artists I never before every day. Thanks for a wonderful reaction to a truly amazing artist!
This is my favorite singer ever!!!! Her Spanish album is so so so so so good!!!! “Spanish is for singing, English is for speaking” - Linda You should react to “Los Laureles” by Linda Ronstadt
She's an amazing singer in any language. I love that whole album too, but think BP should consider La Calandria - fun to know... she doesn't speak Spanish at all.
Canciones De MI Padre...fantastic show I saw her do in NYC...bought the cassette ( at the time) and when my Mexican sister-in- law heard she went out and bought it for her mother. She sang as if she was fluent in Spanish never spoke it. She dated California gov for years...Brown? Forgot his 1st name...
Start back in 1967 for her first hit, "Different Drum" and move through the decades for hit after hit. She and Karen Carpenter have, in my opinion, the 2 most pure female voices ever. She was Pop Rock but sang some country and put out an album in Spanish as well. She was amazing up to a few years ago when she developed PSP which limits her ability to sing. Would love to see you react to more of her songs so you get an idea of how great she was and the contributions she made to the music industry over the years.
Linda Ronstadt was on nearly all the radio stations, from pop to country to rock. You couldn’t listen to the radio in the 70’s without hearing one of her songs. Great reaction bp.
Why does she have to fit into any genre except a fabulous, beautiful lady who is friendly, kind and tremendously talented who gave us so much happiness and should be always thought of that way.
Blue Bayou was originally done by Roy Orbison. If you are feeling homesick for Colorado, that's exactly what her song "Colorado" is about. It was released as a single in 1973 and the B-side was “Desperado”.
@@boomersoonerbaby3466 There are other versions by him, but this is the original from 1963. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kri4VH_Mdd4.html
Linda Ronstadt is very likely the greatest female vocalist of the 20th century. She can sing everything from rock to country to opera to cultural Mexico! She's incredible. You should hear her in Pirates and Penzance!
Linda Ronstadt is from Tucson Az. In this area much of our music in the 70’s crossed between rock and country. Her catalog is great. My first concert in 1967 was Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys. Very folk rock.
Great reaction! this song was originally done by Roy Orbison back in the 60’s. You should check out “When Will I Be Loved” “You’re No Good” and/or her duet with Aaron Neville called “I Don’t Know Much.” All are great songs and I know you will like them! I think of this as more of a folk/rock song. She has an amazing voice and range! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Linda Rhonstad is a Kennedy Centers honoree. Not to mess with my friend. Latino roots, country, rock n roll, bluesy music in 60s 70s and 80s. Epic woman vocalist.
BRO, Another "must watch" is her duet with Aaron Neville, especially the "Live" television performance on Awards night! Both of these legendary performers are shining stars, but now put them together???
Influenced musically by Mexican rancheras, she had a stellar collection of hits. But with her release of "Canciones" she created something extraordinary. While her singing voice has been silenced due to an illness, her music and words continue to send ripples of inspiration to listeners.
I don't know any guy who was alive in the '70s who wasn't crazy in love with Linda Ronstadt. She sang everything from country to rock to light opera, and she was amazing no matter what she was singing. If you really want to know how good Linda Ronstadt was, find a live video of her singing the Spanish songs La Chareada or La Cigara. If you've got socks on, she'll knock 'em off -- guaranteed.
A true American treasure. Her voice has been silenced, but her catalog is deep. You can't be a lover of music and then say you've never heard of Linda Ronstadt.
Linda is covering a song written by Roy Orbison. He sang it as well. He also did that song Crying BP. You reviewed it. This band may be the Stone Ponys. She'll start her own band when she hires Glen Frey and Don Henley. They will become the Eagles of Hotel California fame!
@@mikemaricle9941 She sang that song for many years Mike. Maybe this was when she first hired Glen Frey & Don Henley and maybe before them. Roy recorded it in 1963 & sang it live many times too. Doesn't matter much they both did a great job on it every time! I liked Roy singing the song Evergreen, that was a great love song. The Stone Poneys had an album with that name. What happened to the Stone Poneys after Linda left?
Hey Pegasus, Ian Fánite here I'm 52 yrs old male who grew up listening to Linda Ronstat most all of my life. My mother had every album ever produced by Linda Ronstat . What you probably don't know about her is she is responsible for Creating the Country Rock band the Eagles. Don Henley, Glen Fry both played for Linda before the formed the Eagles. Also she is of German/ Mexican discent, Whose family hails from Mexico, Linda grew up speaking spainsh, and english. She is the most versatile singer in recorded history. Linda is a recorded Opera singer, Spanish singer, R&B, rock, and country. Linda, could cover anyone's music.. and own it like she wrote it her self. My wife and I are big fan of your show. Keep up the good fight.. That means, keep working on finding that perfect song... F.y.i Van Halen with lead singer David Lee Roth covered Linda Ronstat's song You're no good.. now, I love Van Halen, but Linda's version can not be dismissed at all. Check them all out and you'll see what I mean.
Yes! "You're No Good" especially the video from her appearance on the tv show "Midnight Special." You'll also want to see her duet of "I Don't Know Much" with Aaron Neville (check out the Neville Brothers for a great Louisiana band.) And if you have time, check out Linda's performance in "The Pirates of Penzance" which is a Gilbert and Sullivan light opera.
Roy Orbison wrote & sang Blue Bayou! Two fun facts about Linda Ronstadt: (1) The Eagles formed out of her original session band before they got going with her. (2) On the U.S. pop charts in the 70s, she was the queen of remakes. Blue Bayou was a 1963 hit for Roy Orbison, who wrote the song. Heatwave is one of my favs from Ronstadt . . . the guitar solo captures the essence of 70s pop-rock. ANOTHER interesting fact: Ronstadt, whose father was of Mexican heritage, fought with her recording label to make an album of traditional songs all in Spanish in the late 80s; Ronstadt won the battle and the album, 'Canciones de Mi Padre', did NOT flop. 'Canciones de Mi Padre' became the biggest selling non-English album in U.S. history.
I have stated before that I am not a rap fan. But at almost 70 I do so enjoy watching you react to these old greats. Keep on doing so. Keep an open mind an enjoy more. Analyze after.
If all you know of Linda is to hear this song -- you know you've heard something special. I'm sure its been said below but she was about the most successful female vocalist of the 60s-70s. And a really kind and decent person as well.
BP, Another top female rocker from the 70s - my generation. You're just scraping the top surface. She sang damn near every genre. Rock, Country, Latino, Operetta, the crooners, etc, etc, etc. Every time she tried something new her manager and music label would not agree but she did it anyway and ended up in every top 100 chart. She's still alive but no longer can sing due to health issues. She's done some interviews and basically said, 'if I can't sing well then I won't'. She seemingly has a great outlook. I can't even give you the next song to listen to. Close your eyes and hit play. You'll love it. Thank you for listening to her.
Linda Ronstadt “ love has no pride “ and her other 5 ish genres of music including her Spanish heritage music. Unbelievably talent for 6 people really. I grew up in 60s 70s and had her albums. She was instrumental in getting the Eagles out of the recording studio backing artists out to stardom. She told them they were too good to be hiding in a recording studio. They were her grp in the recording studio.
And this is a live performance; no modern studio auto-tune! Linda’s vocals are some of the best you will ever experience. So sad she cannot perform anymore 😢
Love when you listen to the 70's and 80's classics. The videos are always LIVE where you are able to hear the pure voice, without studio adjustments. Especially some of the women. Linda, Heart, Stevie Nicks, Olivia Newton-John. All had powerful voices. Another Linda R song I loved was Ohh Baby Baby. Sad Parkinson's has ended her singing days.
In the '80s, Linda teamed up with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and recorded 3 or 4 albums of traditional pop standard music. They are definitely worth checking out.
You have just stumbled on the most beautiful voice on the planet. Linda Ronstadt (the “d” is silent) is an American treasure. Her catalogue spans over forty years and multiple genres. She could sing anything and do it with perfection. She won many Grammy awards along with every other honor and accolade imaginable. Her voice is a powerhouse with a sweet quality that is just amazing. Can’t say enough good things about her talent and her humanity. She was the first female to sell out arenas in the 70’s. This is a great discovery for you and a deep rabbit hole to explore. Enjoy 🌺✌️
Saw her sing this in concert on the seventies. You should look at Wikipedia about her. Over 20 major awards. Amazing fact Don Henley was in her band and she helped with formation of the Eagles. Amazing career
Linda is my favorite female singer! She is absolutely amazing! From rock to country to opera, to Spanish music, so does it all! Her cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Tears of a Clown” is my favorite. So many other songs, too many to mention. Please go down this fabulous rabbit hole! Edit: It is “Tracks of my Tears” not “Tears of a Clown”. I always get those two titles confused!
Linda also starred in an operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan on stage then in the movie version (1983) "Pirates of Penzance." It starred Linda, Kevin Kline and Angela Landsbury. The musical timing was incredible! It was fabulous ! It's comedy and opera and so much fun!!😮😮
Beautiful, beautiful, Linda!! Always top-notch! The best female singer, ever! She could sing anything. I have never seen a negative comment about Linda, ever! She is truly a world-wide treasure!! Look at her first hit at age 17 or 18, "Different Drum." So happy to see younger people getting to know the best music of the 60s, and '70s.
If the world could have frozen in time, the 70s would be it for me. So much good music. It's heartbreaking that we age. And sad that she has to deal with Parkinson disease.
She also sang for a band called The Stone Poneys, one of their more famous songs was called "Different Drum". Her catalog both with that group and alone are definitely worth a go through.
Man, look into her music! She has albums of Rock, Pop, 2 LPs of 1940s music, Opera, and in Spanish. She has performed with many great musicians and singers. She's won 24 Grammys out of 54 dominations. Sadly, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2012 and lost her ability to sing .
Linda's voice was amazing, it so sad she can't sing anymore. She did one of my favourite duets with Arron Neville, check out the live version of Don't Know Much. She also did a couple of albums as the Trio with Emmylou Harris and the epic Dolly Parton. Their voices were stunning when blended.
I'm a rocker, hard rocker, metal, progressive rock, etc. But I made it a point to see Linda every year when she'd play Blossom Music Center outdoor venue. Talent was off the charts..... And she could ROCK it too!
After both my parents passed, I gave almost everything including their records. It was too hard to even look at them. It's been nice refreshing my memories with your reactions ✌️🎼🤘
Linda has a deep rabbit hole to fall into. She can sing anything!! Please do more of her! She ruled the radio in the 70’s & 80’s. She later put out some Spanish albums. I have had the pleasure of seeing her in concert 4 times. This actually was played on pop/rock stations!,
Linda was called "The Voice" - she can do everything - country, folk, rock, Latin/Hispanic, which she wona Grammy for her total Spanish album, she did Broadway, She is a LEGEND!!!
This is another song that makes me think of my mom! It was one of her favorites, and she sang it just as beautifully as Linda! So crazy that u have been reacting to so many artists and songs that she absolutely loved! ❤
Linda was a big influence in the move of the music scene from New York to L. A. She helped Don Henley and Glen Frye by giving them a job in her band and later with transition to becoming the Eagles. She helped many and worked to make the L. A. music scene a place for music to grow in the 60's and 70's.
