Bruh i was just working while listening, not really paying attention when all of a sudden thinking why am i like super pissed off and annoyed rn? and what are these ants doing crawling on my brain inside my skull. Turns out this guys vocal cadence is the most aggravating Chinese water torture level shit i've ever heard, over and over the same tonal inflection mid sentence question mark? end of the sentence period. After 40 min my brain was basically telling me something to the effect of: Change the video or get an aneurysm. This dude and that guy from those foodwishes recipe videos could totally enslave the entire planet with their brain melting vocal cadences...
Anyone who says they’ve never laughed at anything concerning race is a liar and a snake lmao. Tom is right, it’s not funny in every context and there is definitely a time and a place but humor is subjective for a reason. I’m white and my boyfriend is black and asian, we both get jokes at the expense of the other and it’s all in good fun. Like Tom though, I wouldn’t go up to some random person I don’t know and make a spicy race joke.
context is such a big factor. cuz most of these "dark humor" people just like to say it to be edgy and be seen as cool or tough because they laugh at a bad word. also, sometimes they're just too obvious. the reason I like dark jokes personally is 1 because it's stupid, and 2 it takes me off guard.
My wife and I routinely make racial jokes with each other, and it’s a fine line. Like there’s a difference between making a joke about race/racial differences and making racial jokes. Edit: I’m clearly white and my wife is Mexican.
I never could stand DaftPina's vocal cadence and the way he speaks. It always sounds extremely smug and self satisfied to the point his content becomes unwatchable to me.

3:23 - The "drawing copyrighted characters is also stealing" thing is a major L point. Fanart-ists don't draw those characters with the intention to proclaim ownership of the character. There's a general understanding by most everyone that they didn't invent the character they drew. The actual defense of TwoMad should be that it was incredibly unlikely he re-posted that art with the intention of fooling anyone into thinking he made it, considering he covered the watermark in a silly and obvious way, and especially considering artists are constantly on the lookout for people stealing their art, which I think is fair to take into consideration when seeing the reaction. TwoMad *did* technically steal the art, but it was for the sake of a joke that was as harmless as yoinking someone's hat off their head and giving it back right after. Not to mention TwoMad doing this more than likely gave the original artist more promotion than they otherwise would've gotten if he hadn't used their art; it's almost entirely a positive for the original artist. The reaction by artists is super overblown and hugboxy, but they're not being hypocritical by being mad at TwoMad, just overly defensive.
Mostly agree but with two things to add on. 1) reposting (free) art (with credit) is absolutely great way to promote artists! Blocking out the signature or watermark is very bad though as people tend to steal it further thus leaving the original artist with none of the credit or exposure while others gain (if not profit then followers) off of their art. 2) in this instance it only turned out positive for the original artist and gained traction BECAUSE of the overblown reaction to this situation. If noone got mad then there wouldn’t be threads discussing the original artist, and also the original post wouldn’t have blown up either. While its all a drama pit, that drama pit is the reason you are even thinking of the original artist and could easily find them if you wanted to commission work from them based off of liking the fanart picture you see.
@@Phaeirheehee I don't disagree with any of that, it's just that there's more factors to consider. 1) TwoMad is a comedian. In order for the joke to work, TwoMad HAD to cover up the watermark in a super obvious way. It can be argued he could have maybe lowered the opacity on the little mustache he superimposed on the watermark, that way the artist technically still gets credit, but I think TwoMad's comedy style is very "go hard or go home (within some reason)". It wouldn't have been his usual brand of humor if he wasn't being very purposefully stupid and somewhat inconsiderate. Plus, I strongly doubt people wouldn't have still gone after him if he did that; It's incredibly silly for the Twitter mod to even slightly suggest TwoMad was trying to fool anyone. 2) While it's true the backlash is probably what got the OG artist the most traction, we're assuming TwoMad didn't somewhat expect this type of backlash. Like I said, artists of all sorta have had their art used in ways they didn't permit, and it's super common to see threads by artists/randos calling it out when they see it. I mean, I can't tell you what happens in the timeline where TwoMad's repost didn't end in a Twitter mod, but my guess is that this was sort of his plan to get some level of hate for doing that. Again, don't really disagree with anything you're saying, I just don't think it applies to this situation.
@@Jacob41C I don't think anyone's getting into a legal argument about this. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if someone said that, but the majority of what I've seen has just been people calling him TwoMad an asshole/claiming he was legit trying to take credit for the art. I don't think the core of why artists get upset is because they think they have full ownership of what they draw, I think it's a much more human feeling, which is that it ALWAYS sucks to put effort into something, only for someone else to profit from it. Surely that's something a lot of people have felt at some point of time, but normally related to things that don't require as much skill and time as art. You're saying people's use of the word "steal" isn't right on any level, but I think it completely makes sense: Their art is being used without permission/credit, simple as that. The argument shouldn't be "you're using the word 'steal' incorrectly", it should be "some forms of stealing aren't bad". You could say I "stole" someone's design when I make fanart of someone else's character, but am I doing that with malicious intent? More than likely not, unless I'm clout-sharking or trying to hide the design belongs to someone else. I get that legally this is all technically permissible, but, again, I don't think most people are talking about that.
@@Jacob41C "Reusing others' work is a big deal in video and music", yes, but I'm saying that can be an issue sometimes. If I'm making a video calling someone in particular out as a bad person, it's sort of a no-brainer that I'll use their work in my thumbnail/video without credit, either because I don't respect this person, or because it's the main topic of the video, so it just makes sense you would use it regardless of approval. If I'm making a video totally unrelated to the particular pieces of art I'm using, but I use it anyway because it makes for a good clickbait thumbnail, and without the OG artist's permission, then at that point you're using someone's work in a pretty scummy way for your own profit. Saying, "well that's just how things work", is a super weak justification, especially when it doesn't HAVE to be a part of how things work.
@@Jacob41C Are you just not understanding what I'm saying? 1) I never said even the words "out of spite". I said that, in the scenario where you're making a callout video on someone, it probably wouldn't warrant any moral condemnation to use the art of the person being called out. I don't know how you extrapolated this to, "so you think you can only use someone else's work if you hate them". 2) The reason I'm willing to call TwoMad using that person's art as "stealing", is because it required he use that person's art in a way that could be considered bad etiquette. He could've reached out to the OG artist and asked if he could use their art for this silly meme, but seemingly he didn't. Does that make him a bad person? No. Is it stealing? Yes. Is it the worst kind of stealing imaginable. No. He didn't profit from it, it was clearly just as a joke, and it ultimately ended as a net positive to the OG artist. It's still stealing, but it's not the worst kind of stealing ever conceived. 3) I'm creating a standard where not all "theft" is bad. If you want a more gentler word with a less harsh connotation, we would say TwoMad "took" the art without permission, but I just don't think that does enough to still say, "hey, it not really the best thing ever to use something like that without permission".

I think the argument most artists would make is that in an ocean of easily accessible art, a signature is pretty important so people at least have a name to find your work. To put someone's art out and blatantly cover up the name seems really scummy. You liked the work enough to post it but also didn't like it enough to credit the artist? I can't imagine you would say the same thing if someone where to just re-upload your videos and give the excuse "it's just a youtube video bro, who cares?"
the difference is that his videos make money, and the art doesn’t. also the tweet seemed like a joke. the artist still should have been credited, but i don’t think that the tweet was serious.
@@lauren-wy4ql the art, even if free, is promotion to potential commissions, merch, Patreon, ect. Which could make them money, so yeah the name is pretty important and though the joke might be funny to some, it's still basically theft and deserving of criticism
@@georgeliquor1236 that was a bad example, a more accurate one would be if you were giving candy with your brand on the wrapper but someone comes, takes a handful, and unwraps them before giving them to people. Completely defeating the purpose of giving away free samples
on one hand, its fanart that isnt being made for profit, but on the other, im sure the artist definitely wouldn't have minded a shoutout from twomad (or at least an @) which would have given them some followers. I think its netiquette for an account with some real beef like twomad or elon musk to at least provide some sort of link to the original artist so they can profit off of any new followers coming from those bigger accounts looking to fund them or something.
If I find a image that's pretty cool, I'm just gonna post it because I thought it was neat, I'm not gonna go on a wheres Waldo quest to look for the artist and tag them every time I want to post said image.
@@dumbfoundedkiryu9468 oh yeah feel free to do that. Its just etiquette for the people with very large platforms who have to think about how impactful sourcing a cool artwork they found and decided to post is. A small gesture like that could mean the world to the artist who made it ( as well as avoid these people screaming about theft ). Just think of it as people expecting accounts with a large following to do their due diligence.

Crediting the artist is just a code of conduct of sorts for artists on the internet. Regardless of the potential, or lack thereof, for profit, or ownership of the character.

I do find myself disagreeing over the fanart thing, but admittedly I am heavily biased as an artist myself, and especially given my own views over art.
@thekyleprojekt7996 I wouldn't describe it as shitty per se, but more so... understandably sensitive. The problem is, a lot of people don't see things from the artistic perspective, so expecting everyone to share the same viewpoint on art and whatnot comes off as shitty to those outside of those circles. I've had this argument with so many people. I'm an "artist", and have posted my drawings knowing FULL WELL at the click of a mouse, they can do whatever with it. But as long as they're not making money claiming it as their own, then I don't care. There's nothing I could legally do. And it's not like I'm drawing anything other than cartoony crap anyways. Yet I have had terrible fan artists argue with me how it's still theft and that something has to be done. Yet they get mad when I say not to post their art online if they don't want it taken.
Finally someone with the same mentality! I drew a crap ton of fan art from low effort to decent. I actually wanted people to spread them around, too. Like, wasn't that the whole point with posting anything on the internet: viral recognition? Of course you should not be an asshole and at the bear minimum give credit and not claim any works as your own or use it for profit, but that's literally it. I made fan art using properties from Nintendo and everyone knows how stupidly strict they are with their properties to near abusing copyright. It's like reaching that level of insanity with being overly protective, similar to Golem, with your art is insanity.
@@JackTheBlindOrganistAndCrepey exactly. I loved seeing people share my stuff around. I get a lot of appreciation. But then you have people who would call me a scumbag just for saying everything you just listed. And most of these people who get upset do it on behalf of the artist without their knowledge, or they don't even profit off the stuff they drew. If an artist asks me personally out of respect or if someone's livelihood is on the line, that's when I take action. But if I'm getting blasted for reposting fanart that has nothing to do with them and not even claiming it as my own, I'll just start posting more credited art just to make them mad.
I used to work for a guy named Anton, more commonly known as “antoons” (he’s got pretty good content btw) and daft pina along with a lot of other art commentary creators made up a lot of lies about him. The whole situation was really sketchy and I hope Daft pina gets the karma he deserves tbh.

Removing someone's watermark on a artwork, fanart, or otherwise, is high tier cringe and there is no defense for it. Your friend is a degen and you defending him simply because 'friend' is cringe in itself. Why doesn't he just give the artist the bare minimum credit? Or maybe pay the artist to use said art without credit or whatever. I don't get the logic behind posting something like that at all even as a shxtposting account. Your friend could make original content, it isn't that hard. Just photoshop some doge images together.

As someone that in fact made a shitton of money off doing sonic fanart, it's a big problem for large accs to post shit without crediting. I don't really care since it's twomad and he's obviously a troll (and he's fucking funny) but most of my money came from bigger accounts sharing my posts/liking them/reposting them with my @ somewhere. It's how I ate for like a year when I was still trying to pay for school.

Tom, as a long time cigarette smoker, I can confirm newports or menthols in general are chick cigarettes. Camel filterless, Marlboro reds, and Lucky Stripes are men’s cigarettes
Fanart might not be their intellectual property or making them money, but they're basically using it to advertise their skills and get commissions so I understand the 'outrage' regarding 'stealing' fanart. I think some people even put that shit in their portfolios, it would be pretty shitty if a potential employer does a quick google search and finds your art credited to someone else. The mustache does make it better though.
While I get the mustache thing was done as a joke, as a digital artist myself, I would be upset, too. Shouldn't matter what the art's of, being Sonic fanart shouldn't devalue the art itself. It looked well made. Posting it online doesn't mean you don't still want credit for what you make, we want people to know something is ours that's why we put a signature on what we make. I think the whole thing was way overblown, anyone who knows anything about twomad would know he didn't whip out a pen and draw Blaze the Cat art outta the blue, but peoples' concern with it is valid. It's just kinda dickish.
Braxton is a 18 or 19 year old dude who’s still figuring out what it means to be an adult, and daft is some mid 20 year old who lies online for clout. I dunno. I think they both need to take a step back, like, Christ guys go smell the flowers. Also, Creepyreading being up dafts ass is a bit strange, because daft has been proven to be manipulative at best, and a liar at worst. Daft consistency leaves out very important context from his topics, context that would usually go against his narrative. Because as daft has shown us all, he doesn’t care about making good content, he cares about driving a narrative. The whole situation is weird. Also the whole giving Braxton the “you’re an adult now deal with it” like no, I’m telling all of you below the age of 22, you’re not grown yet even if you legally are considered an adult. The issue is, daft is my age or older than me, he should know by now not to act this way. The problem, is that daft VERY WELL could be right, BUT it’s been proven daft throws people under the bus and will distort the truth for his narrative
Please separate the cartoonist gossip drama from the exposé on the RU-vidr that sells gore to minors on the next videos. One content doesn't exactly complements the other
