I've revised multiple books now and I'd definitely tell you to follow your instincts with the story when you're making changes (if your gut is telling you to make a change to something listen to it). And also it can be a very slow and tedious task so give yourself grace and as much time as you need.

Thank you for this! 💓 I think it's so important to remember to give ourselves grace and to take our time.

It's super helpful to hear about someone's editing process. It sounds remarkably overwhelming and scary to think about doing big edits like character depth or adding scenes. I can do line editing easily but the other stuff is making me nervous. Thanks for sharing your process.

I'm so happy this is helpful! It's a scary process for sure. I've been trying to take it slow with these edits since I'm planning on doing such a large overhaul (like you said, characters and adding plot).

Listening to your thoughts on draft two makes me SO PROUD OF YOU!! You’re giving so much thought and attention to what you need to make the next draft stronger and I love the idea of trying to find the true main character- that’s So Important!!

Thank you so much Bree 😭🥰 I seriously appreciate this. I've worked so hard on making this draft two revision plan so hearing from one of besties who inspires my own writing say "this seems like a great starting point" means a lot!

I really enjoyed my draft 2 for just the reasons mentioned! I had the basics of the story but got to play around and enrich each scene/character-withOUT it needing to be perfect. Rough and tumble but still coherent ✨ have fun!!

I guess I’d also say for multi-pov, I always went with who was the most interesting PERSPECTIVE in the room. Sometimes my chaotic mc was the most interesting person, but someone else’s reactions to her antics was more compelling to read.

I'm really excited to see what happens with this draft! 💓 thank you for watching and sharing why you loved working on a draft two.

I've never gotten past a second draft so I've got no real advice, 🤣 I do like the idea of deliberately asking the whys, especially about why this particular character. For me, once I start down the drafting path, I lose all control. It's part of the fun for me, though. Here's to hoping you don't need a draft 12!

I appreciate you always sharing your thoughts and your own journey with me 💓 I love your updates even if it wouldn't exactly be "advice." I've learned a lot from you being open and sharing your own experiences! Let's hope neither one of us need 12 drafts 😅

@@AutumnAshleigh ❤ I appreciate that. I don't have any IRL writer friends and I never want to talk too much about it online - this is your place to talk about your writing journey, after all. But for real - I'd accept 12 drafts BETWEEN us but not each. I can't even imagine. 😳 Though that's a level of dedication to a single story that I can barely imagine 🤣

Draft 2 is going to be awesome! Love that you're happy to change your plans depending on what happens.

Thank you so much Emma! While I love a good plan, you never know what will happen 😅 so I think being open to switching things around is always good to keep in mind!
