An independent thinker who doesn't necessarily follow the trends! Good to see you have your own practical opinions about bikes & riding. Steel bikes last a long time. As for them rusting from the inside out you can always spray a rust inhibitor inside the frame tubes. Rim brakes are perfectly fine, anything stronger is likely to send you over the handlebars in a panic stop. Guess who's pushing disc brakes & electronic shifters? The manufacturers make a bigger profit off of these "advancements".

I do! Bring your disc brake bike with you when you come to visit and we’ll do the experiment I do with everyone that doubts me. We’ll get our bikes up to speed and I’ll even give you the advantage of calling out when to stop and I will stop under control in less distance than you on your disc brake bike. Care to try it? You should know I’ve never lost. When I say shit like this in my channel it comes from real life experience of challenging people on their discord brake bikes which is all a bunch of bike industry marketing

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I worked on a 10 speed Dura-ace bike the other day, in fact I used to own one. Good brakes but nowhere near as nice as well set up hydraulic disc brakes. Any brake can throw you over the bars but you have to yank on rim brakes compared to the silky light touch of hydros. Meet me at the bottom of a curvy mountain descent and we'll see which brakes are stopping better!

'@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I have real life experience too, I own bikes with dura-ace rim brakes and sram red disc brakes. I test ride bikes with all sorts of components every day. The parking lot test just shows that you're a better bike handler, the real test is how they perform half way down a steep, curvy mountain descent. If nothing else disc brakes provide more stopping power using much less force on the brake lever and that's good enough for me.

Love seeing the diff bikes George!! Please keep showing your diff bikes! And also - take us on a "gravel" ride with one of them 🙂 And thank you for singing the gospel of the alloy rim brake. I've never felt that my brakes were any worse than discs when I've compared them. They do have a diff feel, but the stopping power always felt about the same.

Hello J! I will continue to profile my other bikes. The success of this Ritchey video has made me aware that there is a hunger out in the RU-vid world for this type of content. I don't gravel much anymore since I was doing mixed terrain rides on my road bikes back before it was cool lol! But I will have to go get dirty for the tube! lol! Rim brake, alloy wheel, is absolutely more than adequate and I dare say superior to disc brake in performance in the dry. I don't ride in the rain anymore so I don't care that disc brakes might work better under those conditions. Keep in mind it doesn't matter how good the braking performance is if you don't have tire traction. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more of my personal bikes.

That rim surface is a great idea. I found with traditional machined al rims, when brand new, slivers of aluminum would strip off and get embedded in the brake pads. The embedded slivers would then scrape and scratch up the rim surface when braking. Kool Stop pads would solve this, softer compound wouldn't strip off the al slivers, but new bikes with new rims don't have the Kool Stop pads.

Hello Brandon I have an Outback on back order. Unfortunately the dates keep getting pushed out. I love my Road Logic. If they issue another color that I like I might purchase another Road Logic because now they have a 30 mm tire clearance. That would be all you ever need for everything! One bike that would do it all! Depending on the tire/wheel combination sometimes it’s difficult to fit 28 tires in the fork no problem in the rear chain stays though. I will subscribe! I think you might love the swiss cross - I have a red 1998 with steel fork. I’m somewhat of a Ritchey fanatic so I apologize - not trying to flex, I’m just really into their philosophy and design. The new outback is really nice - super stable and def comes alive off road. I find it to be a tad sluggish in 650b mode so there are tradeoffs depending on the wheel size / tire combo. I think you would actually really really love the new swiss cross disc. I have the V1 outback which is an almost identical geometry - and that thing is basically a road logic with room for 40c tires. I know you said you weren’t really into disc brakes but you should give GRX a shot - the modern Shimano stuff is incredible. I had 2015 Sram discs on my old cyclocross bike and that stuff is garbage in comparison to the new stuff.

As an old roadie just getting back into the sport. I thought your comment about rim brakes vs disk was very interesting. I have old rim brakes on my roadbikes but I'm considering disk on a mountainbike. I also like that you carry the pump. I recently used the CO2 shot for the first time on a repair that got me home but the patch only held for a bit and was dead the next day. Another advantage of the pump. I'm going back to carrying the frame pump. I'm very curious about your wheels. I haven't ridden any carbon wheels but where/how can I get those aero covers? Can you just add them onto normal aluminum box type rims? What type of tire and tube do you run/prefer? I'm currently on rene herse and silka tubes but wondering about tubeless on the road. Lastly, love the Ritchey style and steel is real. I just did my first cyclocross race and there was a guy with a very nice ritchey fold up bike there. He got lots of compliments on the bike.

Hi George, Nice bike! I build myself last year a Road Logic V2 grey and yellow with rim brakes. I went for Sram rival 1X 42 and 11 36 cassette . I know you won't like 1x setup :). For my place, this gear spread is ok. I know there are some limitations with 1X but up to now, no issue to follow my club mates in sunday morning rides. With some simple alloy Mavic Ksyrium wheels it rides really nicely. Not a single pain in the neck or back after a 200km ride. Simple, reliable, great handling, what to expect more of a road bike? To compare, I tried a CF disc brakes endurance bike for a ride, and...how to say... not bad, efficient, but not as funny as the Road logic. As you mentioned in another video about endurance bikes, it was like riding a bus :) Thanks for your channel, always interesting videos.

You need a 53X11 to ride in fast group rides here. Congrats on your Ritchey! I think there is a typo in the paragraph where you talk about test riding a carbon disc brake bike. Can you check please? Hello Steve thanks for your comment but I have no issues watching this video or any other of my videos. Worked on my iPhone or Mac either at work, at home on or off Wifi. I even had my girlfriend watch this video different network with no issues either. Sounds like an issue on your end 🥲

If someone at Ritchey reads this: Please, bring this exact frame with Direct Mount brake mounts and pre-drilled holes for Di2 cables. Everything else is perfect.

The reason people think they need discs is because they're more profitable for bike manufacturers. Anything that's more profitable will be pitched to gullible consumers.

Indeed! Or they are riding carbon clinchers which have terrible braking in the dry and downright dangerous in the wet. Alloy rim brake system is more than adequate and preferred by me.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I have disc brakes on my MTB and gravel, and honestly I prefer them for those disciplines, but I'm unsure they're worth the increased maintenance cost. For road bikes they have no value unless you ride exclusively in the rain. Never ridden carbon wheels on rim brakes, but I've heard the horror stories.

You are not likely to get new viewers by mocking the ones you had.

It’s important that “stupid” questions are addressed and used as teaching points. I believe you took the wrong angle of why I wanted to address stupid questions in a reaction video. Did anyone say mocking? Did you not listen to the message and teaching point when I spoke about “leveling a saddle”? Thank you for your opinion and thank you for watching! I look forward to engaging in a dialogue with you.

Why do you ask what is the size of this bike? Why does it matter? 55 FYI - there’s a video 2 of this bike. And now there are videos of the 2024 Road Logic on this channel. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing.
