My SEARCH for GOD in POLAND

I resonate with you. 3 grandparents murdered by the Nazis, moms life saved by a Polish man and his daughter, born in Ohio with my dad asking “where was god” while sitting in a synagogue, which mom and dad have continued every Shabbat for decades. I was raised quite Jewish Lee and, a Holocaust survivor, family, and given a wonderful life. My dad, when asked, says he was not a victim, that he received a bonus life. That’s an incredible resiliency that has inspired me and many : 95 years old now, mom is 89, from klobuck and Kalish. What you call melancholy, I call deep, generational, trauma, and collective grief, that we absorbed in our mothers bellies, and in our early conditioning. The path forward is healing. Blaming and shaming just perpetuates the trauma.

It was a very personal and melancholic confession, wishing you success on your way to find God and his support to overcome bad feelings and experiences.

As a person who experienced trauma, I have one advice to you: always look at the bright side of life.

Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious if You elaborate upon it in the future. You have actually opened my eyes to the fact that You're a member of an ethnic minority in Poland. A very difficult experience to wrap my mind around, as an ethnic Pole in Poland, a (admittedly artificially, through Hitler's and Stalin's ethnic cleansing politics) uniquely monoethnic state. E.g. it is natural to me that an ethnic Jew would live in Israel, like my family there does. When we talk over the phone, we have similar experience of a nation-state with historic land and identity, however long interrupted. Going AWAY from one's motherland in order to preserve the experience of one's ethnic identity is unfathomable to a guy like me.

I always fully relate as a jew (israeli) returning to poland. i have same story tho we do have the israeli idintity , we were godless, just did traditioanlly the holidays. Still we have a group we belong to (israelies) and its culture. I would assume being Canadian has its own culture. but here there is always melancoly true, but i try to completely ignor it. I dont thing victimhood mentality is a good thing, i think its always bad when huminty clings on the past and try to look and point finger who and ask for reparations or what not. we need to accept, acknowledge and move on. I have always looked at the 'Jewish melancholy' in the context of destruction of the Temple and the excile from Israel and indeed when I visited Israel those Jews were cheerful, they are not as those who are connected to Judaism. I think that Jews with polish roots are like orphans. Visiting Poland for some of them its like visiting graveyard on a familiar but very desolated land, which is bearable only once or twice in a lifetime. It may tear you in pieces. For some who decided to come back and live here, maybe like yourself, its more like holding thightly to those lost memories of the dearest people that our grandparents have, before they will vanish entirely. Maybe this is the way to feel whole and complete. We are the last generation who knew the whitnesses of those times where Poland was more ethnicly diverced and Jews called it home. Maybe thats why you feel that melancholy. Its a heavy burden. For me and probobly to most of Poles its normal to live "close to the graveyard", becouse we did that all the time and there are many of us, we share that melancholy. But Jews in today Poland may feel lonely. I admire your work in Poland and hope to see more.

So sad. But if you are really serious about being with your religion in Poland, first you need to start Polish yeshiva, with Polish speaking native Polish young man Rabbis. Bare in mind, that this religion is not centralized, there is no pope, just tzadik.

Dla mnie osobiście pomimo że dla wielu Polaków właśnie zakończyły się najważniejsze Święta jest to dzień żałoby. Dzisiaj zamordowany został młody chłopak, wolontariusz , który karmił głodnych ludzi. Zbrodniczy reżim skorumpowanego premiera Izraela zbiera śmiertelne żniwo. Ja Boga nie szukam, szukam dobrych ludzi.
