This looks like it's a well-built aerator with the heavier guage steel. You can't go wrong keeping things aerified. It's a great idea to try to help with disease and use less chemicals. I'm curious to see the progress 👏
I use pre emergent in the spring. I have used this aerator all season and haven't had any weed issues yet, primarily because the grass is thick and chokes the weeds out. My goal was more to cut down the disease pressure and use less fungicide and that has been working so well this season. Thanka for watching!
Curious to see how this works over time! I always thought studies showed that spike aerators only work in the short term but end up compacting in the long run since they push the soil to the sides instead of pulling out plugs. Wonder if the design is different than older ones. Anyways I knew I should’ve aerated last fall and dethatched a few months ago… fungus is having a field day right now even though I feel like I’m doing everything else right🤦🏽♂️
Yeah it should be an interesting little experiment for sure. Typically I have fungus by now, still nothing so far so fingers crossed! I haven't noticed much compaction so far, but will see what happens over time. Thanks for watching!
Interesting, most research indicates spike aeration provides minimal benefit when compared to core aeration. Secondly, don't understand the concept of aeration in the spring as I would think that would disturb any applications of pre-emergents thus inviting increased weed pressure in spring and summer.
I core aerated in the last fall. My lawn is so thick I don't have many issues with weeds so I wasn't concerned with pre emergent. I would much rather have weeds pop up than disease. It seems to be doing a great job for my lawn so far. Thanks for watching!
Such a great design. I hate the other aerator that pulls the plugs out and looks like poop all over my yard 🤢 Brinly to the rescue!! This is so much nicer!!
@mr.c6674 Of course there is a place for core aeration, but I don't want to get that aggressive on the lawn in the middle of the season. This has been a nice compromise that has really helped me cut down on fungicide use.
