a true sister! I also do mending! My father in law told me 30 years ago that the most important machine on the farm is the SEWING MACHINE..... thrift and mending is to me the MAIN reason why we sew, i raised 5 sons with my Elna and we spent very little on clothes because I was able to take hand me downs/ bargains and resurrect or modify them ☺ ANYONE can BUY amazing fabric and BUY all the nifty things but it takes a real woman of substance to turn something unusable to something great.

What a fantastic, organized sewing corner! Great ideas here! I need a chair like yours, on wheels, but with no arms, so it can be pushed under the table, giving me more floor space. I have a very small bedroom for my sewing room, since all the kids have moved out. I tore it up today to reorganize it! One of the best things I have done in there was to take off the big, sliding, heavy closet doors. I was always pushing them back and forth to get to my stuff. Now they are stored away in the basement, my stuff is in labeled bins on the closet shelf, and I hung some bunting across the doorway. This has really helped me! I also started wrapping my fabric around those comic book card boards, to make little bolts. I have decided to move everything out of there that I do not use often, so I will have more space. I am going to make a small area in my basement to store extra sewing stuff so it will be all together when I do need it. It is a work in progress. Thanks for your ideas, and your daughter is darling!

Just wanted to hop in and say thank you for sharing this. The idea of the glass fronted bookcase over the sewing table is genius, and I love the yard stick with a cutting spot on your sewing table as well. Inspired - and what a great hubby for doing all of that for you. Very impressed all round

What a great idea to keep a bobbin for every thread, and the pretty ribbons, etc, in clear jars. Love the towel bar for hanging pieces while you're working on them. Now I know part of the reason I don't like fans. That pattern could give you a seizure....lol. Well, I love your sewing corner. I'll be down sizing soon and got a lot of great ideas. Thanks for posting.

I too downsized to a 50ft 2bed fifth wheel someone told me I have abt 650 sq ft. my sewing room has a Hugh closet and 4 drawers under it and one wall is bunk beds. upper bunk was reinforced for storage so I have spent the whole holiday looking at sewing room organization videos etc, I actually took notes on yours. I just found your channel and like other viewers I'm stuck on your site for now. I too love the chair, the ceiling take but due to fiberglass walls, nails and screws are not an option. I currently have one large storage shelf one the small wall and inside the closet I was able to fit one set of small mailbox size divided shelves and one 9 space cubed shelves with all my material. The closet shelve holds tools and unfinished projects. so, I am making some headway but no sewing table yet and due to having to set everything up when I want to craft has held me back. I am open to any suggestions, tips or ideas but in the meantime I'll be watching all your videos....!!!!!

So thankful to have found your channel about a month ago.I have been binge watching your channel today( 2 of my 3 children have strep and myself) I dislike being idle even while sick. I started a minimalist journey to organize and decluttering our lives 4 months ago. I was looking for inspiration and found you. We live in a small 2bedroom duplex. My 3children share 1home split into 2 spaces. I have received so much negativity on this fact. I have been told by friends and family and even therapist that come for my youngest daughter that I need a bigger place. my husband and I are quite content with the way that we live but other people just seem to think then that we need more. you have reassured me that we can have the family that we want in the space that we have and be content just as God intended us to be you have reassured me that we can have a family that we want and the space that we have and be content just of God intended us to be. Thank you

A fantastic area you have to sew in and amazed at how much you have in this area. My sewing area is a full room and I wonder at how much mess I can make in it sewing my quilts and craft. But no matter how much space we have we can create wonderful pieces in it.

Good Job working with a small space! When my kids were little (they're in their 30's now) I was able to create a sewing space inside a hallway closet that had a double bi-fold door. With shelves on the walls above the small sewing table and on either side of it I was able to make it work. I made a cork board for the wall directly in front of me to tack patterns and notes to. When I was done creating dresses for my daughter or working on home décor I could just push the chair back in ( it had to be out in the hallway when I was sitting at my table because the space was so small) and shut the doors on the mess. I had so much fun working in that small space!!!

I also live in a small house where it seems that every horizontal surface here has to do double duty, so I'm keen on organization ideas. I love the bobbins under the thread and jars for ribbons and elastic...so visible!. I want to find a place to keep my fabric where I can see it so that I'm not rummaging head down in totes for a piece of fabric I think I saw about ten years ago. Lol. Fabric pattern pieces for repeat projects, I never thought of that, they wouldn't scoot around so much like paper patterns. I'm a closet sketch pad junkie. I'm 70 years old, so I ask myself "Do I really need all 23 sketch pads?" They will probably still be on the shelf, largely unused, after I've toddled off to that big arts and crafts room in the sky. I should condense it and keep only a handful of the best paper. I'm tired of dusting my mother's knick knacks and antiques. I look with avarice at the shelf space.. You have given me something to aim for that will make both my sewing and my art more organized and accessible. Thanks so much.

I know! I just need to find a video here on RU-vid. I'm sure someone has made one and I'm sure I will wonder how I ever lived without it. I was the same way when my mother-in-law got me a laminating machine. It sat in a box for over a year because I was going to have to take the time to learn how to use it and I just never did. Tom got it out one day and tried it. It was so easy! Now I use it all the time. Why did I wait so long?!

My pegs are too wide on my thread holder to hold my bobbins. My grandpa made it for my granny, and I sorted got it. I'm thinking writing on the bobbin the thread lot, and get me a bobbin container. I use Gutermann threads. I was also thinking of getting small nails, but I really don't want to altered my grandpa's work.

+carolannmarie check Amazon or your local fabric store for "handi-bobs" or "bobbin buddies". These hold your bobbin on the TOP of your spool. Also easy to tell if you have wound a matching bobbin already :). You are blessed to have a handmade treasure! Enjoy!
@brrjohnson8131
@brrjohnson8131 8 лет назад
I use a sharpie to write the #code of thread on my bobbin, so I can confirm which color. It cleans off easily w nail polish remover. When I finish a project or color 'that' bobbin w/b stored in my 2nd bobbin box. The 2nd case holds only empties & multiple white & black bobbins. I use up xtra bobbin thread when basting or zigzagging the edges of new fabric before prewashing. The bobbin boxes fit perfectly in the base of a "makeup case box" [Target] new spools of thread fit perfectly in the hinged expandable trays. Larger spools of white, beige & black fit nicely in the base w bobbin boxes.

I have a Dymo that is just the right thing in some cases, but most of the time I use my Brother P-touch. It can operate by batteries or AC adaptor and plugs into my laptop. I make my labels using the included software and them print them on the labeller. I love it because it has so many options. I can use all my fonts and I can import clip art. Plus it has many different sizes and colors of labels. (I just got a set of 5 different label colors on Amazon for about $20. I got gold writing on clear labels for making next year's homeschool award trophies.)
